The idea was inspirated by the mod De Bello Mundi (release was one week ago, I would strongly recommend it because it surpasses even RS2 and EB) where it is possible to activate Hannos expedition script playing with carthagians.
So it would be interesting to organize expeditions, military or trading, to unknown countries and places. Not every expedition could be activate by every faction. So some are possible only by limited amount of factions, very few are unique and could be activated only by one faction. The reason is that it's for example not very realistical to see suebi trade expedition in Ethiopia. Possible examples could be:
For carthagians:
- Hannos expedition
- Canarian islands
- Madeira
- Rerun of phoenician Africa's circumnavigation
- Expedition to Kush
- transition of Sahara
etc.
Bactrians:
- Expedition to China
- Expedition to Altai mountains
- military expedition to India
etc.
Suebi:
- Expedition to Faroer
- Island
etc.
Romans:
- nearly everything and as a special bonus (maybe along with carthagians) expedition to the new world
+ all other factions
Some of the examples are real, some fictional. There are two types. First the trading expedition brings you a huge amount of money, technologies, cultural points or access to unique units. Second type are military expeditions like New World in original Medieval (not Kingdoms campaign) or more or less Empire. You land with your troops on a small separable map, where you have to accomplish a mini-mission. For example you land with your carthagian troops on modern day Ivory coast and have to support one of the tribe in the war against another (nothing really big, your main focus is for sure the mediterannean campaign map). If you are succesfull you are going to get huge incomes from ivory trade.
On some very rarely places also establishing a colony is possible, though it's not a normal city, just a small outpost where you could build some buildings but not recruit units, they are also not growthing. That brinds a unit possibility to overcome the destroying. Because the colonies could exist a limited number of turns if the motherland is conquered by another faction.
Example. Carthago is under siege and you have a small fleet with some number of units. You could try to make a last attack on the enemy army or bring some units (only small, limited number of units, not a huge army) to your colony on Canarian Islands. Here on a save place (except the romans start their own expedition) you could sustain 20 turns, meanwhile carthagians spies in Northern Africa and Spain are trying to find a weak place. After 10 turns you finally see that in Carthago Nova the garrison is very small due to a conflict with the rebels. You land your small expeditionary corps and conquer in a combined naval land operation back. Since they are carthagians they are happy that the rightfull king is back and grand you if some units. Now you could try to restore the carthagian empire.
The expeditions could be activated by buildings, technologies or a certain date. They are also very costly, especially military expeditions, and you get the reward only after some time.
