It would almost be like releasing a game set in feudal Japan.

Illogical reply. The Shogun TW games have a refreshing setting. A 'Peloponnese Total War' is just zoomed-in Greece; Rome TW but with nothing to make it different.

Well actually American Civil War Total War title would be great. With the proper gameplay changes (not just FoTS-like), Civil War might be one of the best events to set in: Highly strategic features, the possibility to make 5 days per turn or something close (imagine that!), multiple factions (you can set Confederacy, Union, Mexico, Canada and even seperate some States as client-states like Texas or many others...).

Honestly this looks like Greeks fighting Greeks using Greek tactics and Greek weapons. If you want a more diversified set of factions how about set the game a little bit earlier like The mod Rise of Persia. Then you could have Babylonians and Medians and the Greek city states as well and even have Egyptians.

And I repeat it is an opinion ,a rather uneducated one, to compare the proposed mod with feudal Japan.
And I ll repeat some reasons:
1)Macedon and Thessaly are cavalry based factions
2)Islanders had few hoplites and their citizens were fighting either as marines or they were rowers
3)Epirots, Acarnians and Aitolians are mountainous pastoral Greeks who only have a bunch of hoplites and their main armies are light infantry and skirmishers.
4)The map includes illyrians,Paionians,Thracians,Italics Anatolians and Persians who unlike Greeks do not fight with the Greek way (well except some Italics)
Most of them use light infantry and cavalry
5)The 3 great wars of the era the Greco-Persian, the Greco-Punic and the Pelopenesian war are not a phalanx vs phalanx war.Hell the Pelopenesian war signifies the end of the hoplite ethos and the end of the typical phalanx warfare of the archaic and early classical period for starters.

For those who insist on the comparison please bring forward some reasons why.

As an expansion pack for a Victoria Total War, it would be brilliant. Just not a stand alone game

I'll give you that, assuming an eventual 'next Empire TW' will set in 1820's-1900, with at least a 1 turn/1 season. Now that would rock.

However, the map in my opinion should include also the levantine, Egypt, Cyrenaica, Africa (Leptis area to Carthage), all Sicily, with Sicels, Sicani (At least as native units) and Elymians (at least Segesta) other than Greeks and Punics. Only with this elements can be considered a good space about the ancient greeks in general. Peloponnese war was only a moment, with this start you can describe a more long timeframe. Other than that in this map Galatia have no sense to exist becouse at start we are before 279, and in south italy important roles have the city of Rhegion and the people of Lucani, that had a central role in the history of the italiotes.

EDIT: Also... I don't agree with Locri and the two Locrians in greece as unique faction.

I think that map is only a fantasy and no one is working on mod or something similar directly linked to that.
