Hi lads, the sense of this thread is quite bound to the fact what the Greek City DLC will cost as stand-alone. EDIT: the Greek City States DLC will cost 6,99 €
If you buy Rome 2 on Steam you get a game with non boxed and no DVD.

According the sticky thread "best Rome prices" we have the current situation:

Rome 2 (Steam Germany) with Greek Cities costs 54,99 € (so the standalone game costs approximately 54,99€ - 6,99 € - refer edit above)
The cheapest available boxed version with the DLC is amazon.co.uk 32 €
incl. shipping for Germany we come to a total of 37 €

Thats still 17,99 € under the price of the Steam Store, plus the advantages to have an installation DVD so no hours of download and a nice box for your Ikea "Billy" shelf

In any previous TW titles all "exclusive content", at least limited to special units within collector editions have been sold later as a DLC. That's an ashaming fact.
I recently noticed that the Greek City DLC, that is advertised as "free" DLC with a preorder or boxed version is already listed in the Steam Store with no price.

So again I do not see a benefit to pay a higher price and rush for a preorder. See screenshot.

That's because after release it will be sold separately - it's free only until September the third.

why would u want to burn the game to dvd, when you already have it on steam, if such a thing is even possible because you can only zip up all the data and then burn it, it doesnt install if you put the disk in your computer or anything, it doesnt work like that

searching for sites that just sell you the code is the cheapest way to get. (shopto or g2play.net).

never buy from steam unless it's a sale. they charge more for some reason. as do origin (but thats EA and to be expected).

These are different retailers, who can decide on the price. CA or even SEGA don´t have anything to do with it.
The advantages of Steam - you can start playing the game about two-three hours after it goes live, or even less(because apparently Steam starts downloading the game much earlier, it's just that you can't start playing it ). The Amazon order will come maybe about a week after release.
The advantages of the Amazon.co.uk pre-order - a much lower price as well as a physical copy of the game.

You just choose what's more convenient for you.

Rome 2 was £29.99 for me with pre-order bonus on steam. Was this not a global offer or has it stopped now?

@Total Warker: I don't think so but the prices around UK are much higher as it seems. Your price in Euro would be 34,82 €

In british pounds it costs about £47.36 on Steam. So the price here has much overhead compared to other regions and also much more expensive than in stores as I mentioned in the OP.

I cannot understand people really do not get the point of my thread. I would feel betrayed spending nearly 18 € more on a game on Steam than others have to pay.
It cannot simply be compensated by "you do not have to buy it" or "every store has its own price". That's quite a case of cheating lads

Now even if you have buy it elswere, you have to activate it on steam...
so in the end speaking about Rome 2 you do not miss anything of the service. But just pay a way higher price at least in my country, if it is sold on Steam for about 33 british pounds.

OK, now what is you're point? Do you think we don't know we bought it at a more expensive price?
what are you trying to achieve with this post?

I've never seen it that cheap. On Steam, now, it's €54,99, and that's the price I've always seen on Steam.

It's £29.99 on steam now. God knows why they decided on an initial £44.99 but I can only assume it was a decision made during a wine-fueled Orgy.

I am aware that steam is sometimes more expensive thant more classical retailers.
But steam offers some services, that others don't.
Steam has a community, a workshop, etc...
Now even if you have buy it elswere, you have to activate it on steam...

That is the point Elli! Steam is ripping 55 bucks out of our pocket for that game in Euro, while on Steam UK you get it for 20 € less! I do not see a point in doing this.

Steam forum's are full of this kind of threads, i have paid it too for 54.99 EUR, but all games on steam are more expensive for us old europeans than for the yanks.
    Steam doesn't give a **** about it.

Or you shoudl start an official petition like the Germans did.

I think you misunderstood, alQamar: there is no price on the Greek States DLC because you can't pre-order it (which only makes sense, since it is included in the Rome II pre-order), all unreleased games that are not on pre-order on steam don't show a price, I'm sure that once R2 gets released together with the DLC, the DLC will get its price.

UK stores were selling the game for 29.99, Steam UK was selling it at 44.99 (I think). So Steam lowered the price in the UK to compete with the other retailers. They will always set their prices in specific regions to compete with local retailers. The RRP in the UK for Rome 2 is still 44.99 afaik.

The hardest thing is this whole story is each time I check Steam I see Rome II Total War in my library, just not playable ... yet...
