    Default Roots of the PHARAOHS

Hey I would like to see some traditional units in the Egyptian Faction. I do enjoy phalanxes. But would like some similiar units like in Rome.
Am I alone in this? Not sure what their army composes of at this time. I really am not well versed in Egyptian history.
What do you think? Should Egypt have traditional units at all? Or would that be Fantasy?
Like I said, I'm not sure.

Stuff similiar to the units in Europa Barbarorum, a highly praised modification for the original Rome, is probably what we'll see. Then again, the Battle of the Nile revealed alot too. But I would say that the Poteimacs should have more Greek stuff.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Ptol Egypt being a dynamic faction.

Ordinary Ptol Egypt would consist of cheap native Egyptian levies and more elite Greek Troops from the greek ruling class.

But you could also choose to rebel and overthrow the greeks, going back to a full Egyptian rule, keeping the same old cheap native Egyptian troops but also gaining some elite new Egyptian troops as well.

I'm all for more native egyptian units if you overthrow the greek ruling class!

I am too! So the question is, would you sacrifice Realism for Entertainment?

It's not a question about Realism vs Entertainment.

It is a question about Following Set History vs Writing your own History.

History is just as 'realistic', even if the events within change(like if instead Carthage beat Rome, or Germany won WWII)

I 100% agree with you. Historically they used hellenistic units but CA stated that they are going to make less common used units be able to become more common if the player wishes to do so. With that said I would really like to see some old kingdom units, they are the ones that are more famous such as the chariot and the curved knifes(forgot the name there) If the player choses to use them instead of the hellenistic phalanxes this will very likely be so as we have seen egyptian chariots in the nile trailer which were practically NOT used anymore and ancient egyptian units in the harbour screenshot combined with actual Ptolemaic units. So yes it's fantasy but thats what total war is about CHANGING HISTORY. So I'm really looking forward to using some traditional units :very happy face:

Why not give the Suebi Tiger tanks while we're at? Would you sacrifice common sense for mindless fun?

Adding a 20th century german metal killing machine to an ancient Greco-ptian society is very extreme compared to just adding some traditional units to Ptolemaic Egypts roster.
Kinda like Fots. where some still held the old ways against the new. Samurai vs modern infantry is Extreme.

For a poor ass like me its the most frustration in Multiplayer
Btw, on the topic, I think Egypt shouldn go full ancient army like in Rome 1. It's unique and make the faction easy to recognize with other.
And more fun to play with. We will no longer have to wipe the greek's white assess anymore, instead we will go full band of brown brother.

The Ptolemies have native Egyptian units and we've seen screens of them. They just look like Classical Egyptians and not Bronze-Age, New-Kingdom Egyptians.

This. Why would we ruin immersion and realism just to entertain the young Total War fans? I think CA improves realism each time, this would be a huge step backward.

Or how about no one, ever, making any sort of speculation about any historical event at any time? Why play this game? After all - it's unrealistic! We don't know for sure that every bloke in your army existed, or moved the way he did over a battlefield - or that every straw of grass on that battlefield looked like that! Did you have a camera pointed at all of this two thousand years ago? Did ya? No? Oh well.

I'd say no. Rome 1's Egyptians looked like something from Ramses II's time, about a thousand years before the Roman timeline. It'd be like putting the Greeks in Mycenaean armor or having the Seleucids speak Hittite.

Kinda like Fots. where some still held the old ways against the new. Samurai vs modern infantry is Extreme.

The difference is that Japanese armies literally looked exactly like that at the start of the timeframe. It's not anachronism. There are even photographs of it.

Who's to say realism is not entertainment. I'm dumbfounded by the argument.

Realism as in the facts but still entertaining. and Entertainment as in something added SIMPLY for entertainment purposes that goes against fact.
    Sorry I should have clarified.

That is what I am trying to say, realism creates immersion and IMPROVES game play which is entertaining. I am not entertained by abnormally large
amounts of chariots and elephants charging on the battle field, that is just stupid.

I have yet to see how the Egyptians having a more native roster in case of a change of leadership away from the Greeks would be unrealistic, provided they didn't include any fire breathing dragons or walking-Anubis-dog-warriors with dual scythes.

all I would like is a native roster. One that has maybe some melee, bow , and chariot native units.
We dont even need a whole lot. But let the player decide how many of each unit he/she wants.
