    Default New Unit Suggestions

    Zora

    Octorock Pod

    This one is fairly simple:

    Soliders 15

    Melee Attack 4
    Missle Attack 2
    Charge Bonus 0
    Weapon Type Missle

    Total Defense 4
    Armor 1
    Defense Skill 3
    Shield 0
    Hit Points 1

    Recruitment Cost 350
    Upkeep 25

Recruited at: Level 2 Barracks/Level 1 Fortified Barracks

Basically what the Octorock Pod would be is a Zora Deku: It has decent missile capabilities as well as good melee.
    Gorons

    Hammer Branidshers

    Soldiers 5

I have yet to come up with a majority of the stats, but the gist is about 5 Gorons carrying Megaton Hammers. (Obviously larger than the OoT Megaton Hammer, because that thing looks like a Goron could duel wield it no problem) They would have really high attack, pretty good charge bonus (If you swing something heavy, the momentum will add to the inertial impact, and no, that's not supposed to be an "ermahgerd" spelling of initial, I'm talking about inertia) but would be really slow.

Recruited at Level 3 Fortified Barracks

That's all the idea I have for now, but I'll edit to post more when I get ideas

I'd love to see some Biggoronswordsmen. Pretty much a group of Gorons wielding Biggoron Swords/Giants Knifes, possibly with an advantage against cavalry because the length of their blades.

That and Biggoron as a hero.

    Default Re: New Unit Suggestions

Making giant gorons would be relatively easy. All you would need is to scale their model by X, then create a animation copying all of the Goron animations you want and having a scale factor of X. (to make them swordsmen, though, you would have to have the sword either made, or edited though other swords. Easy)

Thus would screw over balancing something terrible, though..............................

Some medium cavalry for Ordona would be great. I wish there cavalry roster would be similar to Rohan from TATW with a wide selection so maybe some lancers similar to the Rohan Riders (great charge, good melee, medium armor and defense) and some skirmisher cavalry like the Riddermark Skirmishers (weak charge but good short range missiles and good melee/defense).

The guy who posted the Flying Lon Lon Ranch bug inspired me with an idea:

Ingo as a Mercenary Hero. He'd be recruit-able by anyone but Hyrule, but would be more likely to appear if currently At War or at least have a poor reputation with Hyrule. Perhaps a guaranteed show to the faction that owns Lon Lon Ranch that is not Hyrule.

His retinue would probably be Mounted Recruits from Hyrule, seeing as he's still a Hylian by race.

For traits, he should have stuff like Forced March, Cheap, and other Economic bonuses which make him an ass.

And here is the second part of that old forgotten work. Don't know if the game is still at a stade where it need new ideas, but, well. Apparently the end of the text deviates a bit from units suggestion and right into lore modifications... Seems like I was very pationate about the whole thing when I wrote it...

    [Mercenaries :]

    [Sheikah Spies :]

That occured to me while play-testing hyrule : despite being a well balanced and varied force, they don’t have a single infiltration unit. So here is the idea: as long as Hyrule is allied with the Sheikah Cadre in the campaign, they can recruit Sheikah Spies units as mercenaries near Kokorico. Should have an higher recruiting and upkeep cost than the original ones, of course.

    [Heroes' Shade]

You know, the classy skeletton guy that teach you sword moves in TP. Should probably only be hireable by the Kingdom of Hyrule (as he spent his life protecting it) and link's faction if we either get to play something like that in the campaign (as he is technically OOT/MM link, and mentored TP link.)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    [Ganty]

Could be the commander of a not-so-great band of thiefs, with not-so-great commanding capabilities herself, but with the advantage of being hireable by anyone (what with being a lawless thief and all). Could also have an alternate version, much more powerfull and leading a nice unit of archers, but only hireable by the kingdom of hyrule ("Knight Ganty" or something).

    [Gerudo:]

    [Ice Archers:]

The Gerudos are supposed to be the best archers in hyrule. That’s in the faction description. But while they do have pretty good line archers, they don’t have any truly “elite” archers like the Kokiri Emerald Archers (the Scouts currently being quite useless, and probably more intended to feel like "infiltrators" rather than truly "elites" either way). You know, a pricey, really powerfull elite archers unit, the kind that would get the player thinking “alright, those are the best archers in all hyrule we were talking about.”

And in OOT, you find the Ice Arrows at the end of the Gerudo Training Grounds, so that seemed to be fitting. What I’m seeing is a unit of elite archers, with stats somewhere around 63 soldiers, 12 ranged attack, 8 contact attack, 6 defense skill and 4 armor, 0 shield, 1 hit point. Very long range or Long Range missiles, effective against armor, excellent moral, excellent stamina, bonus fighting in deserts, can’t hide. And an ungodly recruiting and upkeep price to go with it.

As far as appearance goes, we could have something akin to the gerudo captains, with those cool silver plates of armor, as they would be in-tone with that whole ice theme. Big, impressive looking bows, one or two nice scimitars for close combat, maybe some facial tatoos like the wind witches, and projectiles looking like ice arrows once fired (duh).

    Wouldn’t that be cool?

    [Hyrule:]

    [WW Zelda/Tetra]

Yeah, I know we already got a whole bunch of zeldas, and the only two I recognized among the five were the OOT and TP ones. So maybe one of the other 3 is already supposed to be the WW one. Anyway, I just put this one here because she is the only one to actually have some proficiency in close combat in canon (no, sorry TP Zelda, I don't count "holding an ornated sword for 5 seconds before dropping it" as "being proficient in close combat", though I will admit you fared much better with that glowing laser bow thingy at the end of the game... er, I'm getting off tracks here.). Also, she can be translated fairly nicely in a more "serious" art style to fit in this game.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    [WoG Zelda]

The original game is so bad it became a legend, but it did have the merit of giving us a female main character in a zelda game. And the artstyle from that "Staff of Gamelon" fan project I stumbled upon does look good, and strangely reminded me of the artstyle of HTW, so I though... Why not?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    [Stalfos]

    [Red Bubbles]

You know, those flying skulls charging at you to burn you in OOT? Thought they could fit nicely in the Stalfos Roster. Would probably be a fast, rather good at killing soldiers, but dirt-cheap, few in numbers, with almost no defensive skill at all, the kind you throw at the ennemy to inflict as much damage as possible and disorganize him, but knowing full well you will only be left with a handfull of bubbles at the end of tha battle, if the unit survives it at all.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    [Kokiris]

    [Kokiri Orchestra]

A motivation unit, akin to the zora healers. Only a few soldiers not at all proficient in close combat, supposed to stay in the rear, playing music to motivate the front line fighters. If at all possibe, the musicians should have a mix of ocarinas, violins (as those are the two instruments linked to kokiris in canon), flutes (skull kids in OOT as well as"Flute Boy" in ALTTP) and maybe also percussions (think about the lost wood theme from OOT.)

    [Fado]

The other one. The sage guy with his violin from WW. Would make a support hero, with traits lowering his hitpoints and only commanding a kokiri orchestra, but very nice leadership capabilities to compensate.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

[And a random building for good measure:]

    [Gerudo Slave Market:]

Bonus to civil order and population growth. It’s basically a place where slaves, mostly male hylians captured in battle or during raids, are sold at a high price to the general populace. Main inspiration comes from OOT, of course, where some NPCs comment on how gerudos sometimes came to castle town to find “boyfriends”, and we also have the case of those guys captured while working on repairing a bridge, but who turned out not to be, er... properly inclined for the gerudo’s needs. And of course, it’s also a matter of logic: we are talking about a whole kingdom where everyone is female and genetically only able to give birth to more females, so the only way for them not to go extinct would be to find males somewhere else.. Which could also partly explain why there is so much tension going on between them and hyrule: seeing sons and husbands getting taken away by those desert dwellers crossing the border for centuries would certainly do a lot to build up some animosity.

By the way, on a somewhat related matter, I wanted to add that that one bit of HTW lore about Ganondorf forbidding gerudos from taking mates aside from him is absolutely, utterly nonsensical, and should be burned asap, never to be talked of again. It may have been added in to make that ruler feel “evil” or something, but when you consider that that one law basically amounts to destroying his own kingdom’s population in a mere generation, it really ends up making him look utterly stupid and incompetent more than anything else (‘cause, you know, there is just so much reproduction duty a single male like him will be able to do, especially when he’s supposed to have a bunch of other important things to attend to, what with rulling the nation and all that...). So, yeah. I don’t care about Ganondorf being evil, scarry and whatsnot. But adding “dumb as a plank” to his long list of defects is seriously a bit too much for a game trying to get a more “serious” take on the LoZ series. Though even the “I’m evil because I’m sooo evil” could use some tweaking, like it was done with Ganon (the beast one) and his tragically classic, but still somewhat relatable past... For exemple, you could take that one single line about jalousing the fertility of Hyrule’s lands we got in WW, and start from here, portraying him as a ruthless ruler, but one still acting for the sake of his own people (and if the whole world has to burn in the process, so be it).

And... I got completly sidetracked on the lore. Sorry about that.

Please look before you post, ice archers and bubbles are already in the game. And who said gannondorf forbid the gerudo from taking mates besides himself? UD made sure to get ride of Gannon's I'm obviously the made guy look" and he added depth to Gannon in mission 5, not sure what you are even saying... Im also pretty sure it is wildly accepted that the gerudo use Hylian men to keep there generation going.

You know, I'm naturally disinclined to support Tetra being in the game because WW is like the one Zelda game that can't be related to this. However, lore-wise she could be made to work as some sort of estranged bastard-daughter of the King of Hyrule, so while she actually 'could' be princess, she wouldn't have to be forced in the mod's current story by having her not be part of the line of succession. I'm not sure how good Gerudo Pirates are, but they'd be a fitting, and easy, retinue for Tetra.

In this case, her bastard status would make her hire-able by a number of factions depending on their views.

Hyrule/Ordon could get her due to her sympathy towards Hyrule (and by extension, its loyal provinces). She feels a deep loyalty to her homeland and never had reason to doubt their cause, choosing her pirate's life because she was the only one of her sisters who could life a free life of exploration instead of being groomed for rule.

Gerudo/Labrynna could appeal to her status as the forgotten child of Hyrule. In these scenarios, her disillusion with Hyrule would lead her to a path for power and revenge as both Twin Rova (and Gannondorf if he's ever in the game), and Queen Ambi appeal to the injustices dealt to her in the succession. The idea here would be that they'd offer her power in the lands she was cheated from in exchange for her loyalty to such enemies of Hyrule.

Some other factions who'd get her could be:

-Lanayru: Half Hyrulian, they could appeal to her need to help her people without the burden of acting directly. Or opposing Hyrule with the same offer of power. Also, as a pirate she'd probably have plenty of contact with coasts of Lanayru, good and bad, but plenty of investment in the region, if for nothing else but future trade and plunder.
-Shiekah: Seeing as she is still a potential claimant to the Hyrule and still a descendant of the royal family, the Shiekah would have much reason to keep tabs on Tetra. In such a case that The Royal Family should fail, or stray from the Godesses, the order would have her ready and willing (and trained under shiekah doctrine) to take the Kingdom in a legitimate bloodline succession. Think of it sort of like Alistair in Dragon Age. Also, Pirates and Ninjas in the same army.
-Gorons/Kokiri/Zora: I'm sure the three cardinal factions outside of Hyrule would have use for a mercenary as infamous as the mighty Tetra.
-Fairies of Tarm: Because unlimited bottles of fairies is incentive enough

There are factions she'd never fight for in my opinion:
-Moblins: naturally beastlike and barbaric, she also has a history of fighting moblin pirates out at sea and might even be naturally racist against them for this reason.
-Darknuts: I don't think they'd have room in their code to take her.
-Lizafos: I don't think shed go for them, kinda for the same reason as moblins
-Stalfos: Undead army hellbent on destroying all life. I think she likes her life.
-Ikana: I think Igos would rather just kill her with his march on Hyrule. Why bother with mercenary generals when your forces are immortal?
    -Gohma: She's a closeted arachnophobe.
-Majora: Conversion's a , you'll forget all your new friends' holidays for at least the first three years.

Thanks! Also thanks for bearing with my post; block of text was not my intended effect

As for the Hero's Shade, he would definitely work with Hyrule (Being the Hero of Time), Ordon (He trained an Ordonian Link), and the Shiekah (His closest and ally during his own quests). He could even lead a unit of Ancient Hylians whom would match his armor, as well as give us that awesome unit in the campaign.
Others would include the Zora, Gorons, and Kokiri because, well, if he's Link then he likes them too.

This is another one of my ideas I've been rolling around in my head so tell me what you guys think. The Darknuts have no ranged units, they are pretty much designed to be a race that doesn't use a lot of different types of weapons simply because their culture is built around the use of only a handful of fighting styles. Sword and shield for example. But I got to thinking that the complete lack of ranged weapons just simply isn't realistic, they would have some means of ranged combat. Not bows and arrows but something, and then it hit me like a brick thrown by a disgruntled neighbor complaining about my lawn. They would have ranged units, but how they go about it would be somewhat different from most other races(no bows, crossbows, or guns for example). So I propose a new kind of Darknut unit that will fill their rather limited but tough roster.
    The Darknut Centurion

Basically these guys, except the Darknuts throw spears not launch rockets at them.

This unit would have a spear and shield, the spear actually being a ranged attack(slightly longer than other spear throwers because of their strength) until it runs out of ammo. Beyond that it will be very similar to most other Darknut units in that it has high armor, good morale, powerful attack(although weaker than the giant swords they wield), and slow speed. I think this is still inline with Darknuts image because while it is a ranged unit it still looks and feels like a Darknut. They may even have an axe thrower as well, again they would have range, but how they go about it would be very different.

By event, you mean have him join a faction if certain conditions are met (and without need to pay him anything, except I suppose retraining expenses)? Then yeah, that could work.

Also when you mentioned giving him some ancient Hylians in matching armor... did you mean as living people or ghosts like him?

This has been suggested many, many times, by different people including yours truly. Not surprising either if you consider that these Darknuts actually exist.

Not sure why you would call them centurions though. Javelin Darknut or Spearmen Darknuts would make more sense to me.

For the Darknut Javelin, I'm not sure how well they'd work because they might be too slow to actually be an effective ranged unit. You need to get close for javelins, and by that point you may as well just have swords and melee.

I'm sure once Neph gets events working properly, it wouldn't be too much of an issue to implement him into the game like that. It could be anything from Majora Worship expanding to Hyrule (being the same adult/kid link from OoT, thus Majoras Mask Link), simply a preset number of turns, if Zelda dies, if certain sages start dying, etc.

It could actually work either way. If the soldiers are all alive then Neph could justify their use by saying they are the Hero's Shade's acolytes/students. They all wear armor that emulates his armor in an effort to live up to his tremendous skill. So somewhere he had spent time training a hundred or so followers when there was no Link available to train. I could see some sort of call to arms of those swordsmen found worthy to serve him, trained high in Snowpeak to defend Hyrule from those who would destroy it.

Otherwise, if Neph wanted to pull a reverse-Ikana in the Historia missions, he could make them all ghostlike in which case, it's the fallen heroes of Hyrule who have risen to fight one last time, Tolkien's Army of the Dead style.

Well to address the conversation going on above I have to say that I am against the Darknuts having ranged weapons, they can rely on the Zuna for that and there infantry is so powerful that I think it would be unbalanced if they had them. But hey, just my opinion.

Ok so I have a lot of unit suggestions so I will try to stay as organized as I can. This is part 1, I will post the rest in different post. Also, feed back would be appreciated, I worked hard on these. Most of these units are not just "because I want them in" They are intended to fill a hole in a roster.

    Gerudo

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Gerudo elites (something like that)

Gear-Mirror shield, Chainmail armor (iron), Gerudo sword. Class-Heavy infantry. Can form shield wall. Purpose-The gerudo lack of heavy infantry means they can be pretty underpowered if the game is balanced to where armor values are what they would be in vanilla (a heavy armored knight with a shield has a defense of almost 20 or higher) They should at least have SOMETHING.

The Gerudo usually don't bother with armor, the desert they live means that armor is impractical and dangerous. However when they need to hold out in a bloody melee with armored foes then they call in the gerudo elites. Armed with mirror shields, swords, and chainmail armor (not plaitmail because it is to hot) These elite women are more then cabible of holding a solid line.

    Mounted Gerudo elites.

They are the same as the foot version only they have lances for charging.

    Part 2.

    Kingdom of Hyrule

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Lon Lon archers. (light armor) Purpose-The kingdom of Hyrule is suppose to be the well balanced faction but they lack LONG ranged missile units.

Though the Hylians prefer crossbows they do know that fielding some archers for long range support is a good idea. These archers are ranchers who have been trained in lon lon ranch in bow fighting. Though not as skilled as the Gerudo and small in number they are respected among the Hylians for there skills with the bow.

Lon Lon cavalry. (light armor) (Mounted archers) Purpose-I know what you are thinking, mounted archers don't fit the KOH. But do they? The KOH is suppose to be the ultimate faction when it comes to variety so why not?

Ranchers trained in lon lon ranch in horseback archery these skilled horsemen bring ranged cavalry to the Kingdom of Hyrule's military, something the Hylians usually lack. Though small in number they are a great asset to any General who might lead them.

    Labrynna Regime

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Mounted knights of Ambi. Heavy cavalry. They have lances. Purpose-the Labrynna regime's lack of cavalry is the only reason why I don't like them and I think they should have some but it probably won't happen because Undyingnephilam doesn't want them to.

Horses are not native to Labrynna. These means that The Labrynna Regime can't afford to use what little horses they have imported on light cavalry. They do however send knights of Ambi out on them sometimes. Although Knights of Ambi aren't used to fighting on horses a charge from them is still very deadly.

Musketeers. Purpose-realism, when they invented the first guns in real life it didn't take long for humans to think of a better design. While the Labrynna regime's first successful model, the Aquebushiery is deadly it was only a matter of time before they improved the design. Now arming there soldiers with a long barreled musket there gun power firearms will truly dominate the battle field with longer range and better accuracy.

The problem with having a faction that is entirely melee causes the same problems with factions that are entirely ranged, like the Deku tribes for example. Some situations call almost exclusively for one or the other, a faction that lacks melee or lacks ranged units simply can't compete with nations that have both on a campaign map, or even in a short battle depending on what factions they are fighting. The Fairies of Tarm are another good example, they are pathetically weak even against a much smaller force when faced with both melee and ranged units. When I was playing as the river Zora all I needed was the basic infantry and tons of the tokay slaves, and we roflstomped them every time.

Yes the Darknuts can use the Zuna, but what if events play out such that that event is not open to them. They already lack any cavalry, and this is an enormous disadvantage. Relying on mercenaries to supplement your forces is good(like New Spain in the Americas Campaign), but relying on them to fill holes in your roster simply just doesn't work from what I've played.

    TL;DR

-Darknuts PWN in melee, city assault, and city defense because of their powerful units
-Darknuts pretty much roll over and die when met with any kind of decent ranged force, this is also true when cannons are involved(Armaghomas don't count, they're too easy to make)
-They don't necessarily need ranged units, but it is the easiest way to fix this issue

Labrynna: ---- Labrynna Organ Gun (siege weapon / 16?): [Replaces Gunner Post],(http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Ribault_%28M2TW_unit%29) ----- War Wagon (Heavy Missile Cavalry / 5): These Factory produced self-propelled armored wagons bring heavy fire power and speed to the Labrynnan army. While slower then traditional cavalry and with the need to stop and refuel (tries easily) on the battle It is valued for its 11 armored gunner emplacements, mobility, trampling, and psychological effects. --- Grenadiers (Missile Infantry/ 48): A stepping stone between Labrynna's old crossbowmen and new gunners, the Grenadiers use a lighter, less powerful, black powered version of the Goron bomb. While they have the power of a gunner they do not have the range and are thus trained and used along side conventional crossbowmen.
