so i decided to have a custom battle to test some new textures

I ordered my Hastati forward to counter their line while the Velites skirmished




heres my left flank falling under their general


my centre and right flank succeeded and rushed to aid the left


the general got away but we crushed the left


just finishing the last major piece of their puny force








after killing their general with my body guard, i begin mopping up


and with just a few stragglers remaining, the only casualties inflicted on the principes and triarii were from archers which i speedily dispersed

No phalanx formations I'm afraid @perifanosEllinas, I'll try posting some later

These screenies were taken of my recent battle in Iberia. My Roman army, which comprised a large contingent of Iberian mercenaries, was overcome by a superior Iberian army. The desperate attempt by my cavalry to break the formations of the enemy failed leaving my general surrounded and killed.

I've found the Marian Reforms have deprived me of Republican units without making new ones available and resulting in transfering my existing forces from elsewhere in the Empire to Gaul, in order to fend off the strong advance of the Iberians.

Initially apart from Militia only Legio VI Ferrata from Alexandria was available. But then, only able to be recruited 1 every 6 turns and they are very expensive. Other legionaries are now recruitable, but only in areas far away from Gaul and still not enough to balance the loss of recruiting my Republican soldiers. As a consequence I've struggled in holding back the Iberians in Gaul, Asia Minor has been lost to Pontus and a fight back of the German tribes has caused a withdrawl from Germania. Things aren't looking good for the preservation of the Empire let alone its continued expansion.
