Default confirmed: all factions will have the same UI

So one of the only things I absolutely loath in R2 is the UI which is pretty much a cheap knockoff of greco-roman pottery art. Now with the rally point 15 even Germanic tribes must use this UI. For a game that seems to advertise immersion I think this is a horrible mistake. Unit cards can be nodded, universal crap UI is impossible to edit.

The transparent black background is futuristic, the icons on the units and map are too small and hard to make out. For something I am going to be looking at for 95% of the time for all factions this seems to be the thing that needs to be fixed the most... I mean how can you even associate roman culture with a Parthian or Celtic tribe?
Edit: 6 weeks from release. 3 completely different factions who are culturally unique have the same exact UI.
Its just lazy and poor job on behalf of the department responsible for the UI.
So what do you guys thinks? Do you think we can grow to like this abomination?

Haven't unit cards been a universal style in all TW games? Before TWS2 they were just snapshots of a unit essentially. I actually don't mind the transparent UI. I don't think the icons and such are too small, either.

Which would have been a far superior solution for Rome II, as far as I'm concerned.

    It looks good.

And how do you know this?

the icons on the units and map are too small and hard to make out.
That's because you're viewing it on Youtube. It's going to be much larger when you actually play it.

I agree that the generic Greco-Roman marble look doesn't work for the Suebi, but otherwise I like the UI.
Aelfwine, then, spoke out and valiantly declared: 'Let us call to mind those declarations we often uttered over mead, when from our seat we heroes in hall would put up pledges about tough fighting; now it can be proved who is brave. I am willing to make my lineage known to all, that I was from a substantial family in Mercia. My grandfather was called Ealhelm, a wise nobleman blessed with worldly wealth. The thanes among that people shall not reproach me for my wanting to get out of this army, to make my way home, now that my lord leader is lying hacked down in battle. To me that is the greatest grief: he was both my kinsman and my lord." Then he moved forward and turned his attention to revenge, so that with his spear he struck a seaman among the army so that he lay dead among the ground, destroyed by his weapon. Then he exhorted his comrades, his friends and companions, that they should advance.

It should be changed really fast XD even Rome 1 and Medieval 2 had a better UI, cause one thing is a simple UI other completely different is a poor UI the doesn't really contribute at all for immersion.
Same goes for the unit cards but that i can stand besides it can be modded.
But the worse thing by far due to the fact that it cant be modded is to see that spartan hoplites will probably share the same animation that barbarian spearmen that is what really bothers me, the rest is of less importance.

I know we can change unit cards because we could do it in shogun 2. As for how big or small it will actually be. Well if you just put it on a 1080 res and full screen then that's what you will see in game...

The UI looks very bland. In the original RTW we had something with stone columns for the civilized factions and a wooden design for the Barbarians. In the mods there were a lot more designs. Overall it's not a dealbreaker though.

Is this actually a confirmed feature? Because, as Joey CA has pointed out, CA is still tweaking and changing a game.

I agree, I don't like it at all. I was extremely surprised to see the Suebi units cards in the same style as what we've already seen. It really is an immersion an atmosphere killer.

They're really not drawn identiacally to the Greco-Roman pottery ones. They are less angular and more impressionistic. They do take into account Celtic art styles (please google the Cerne Abbas Giant) the same as the Egyptian ones took into account the art style from the lands around the Nile. We don't need to condemn them so harshly

I basically knew this a long time ago, pretty much when the UI was first revealed.

Good thing I don't mind it, otherwise I'd have to be in the minority, making threads to complain about how I don't like it and hopelessly hope it will change.

Well, well and here I thought that I was the only one who thinks that this is ABSOLUTELY lazy and immersion breaking. So I'm not insane afterall, there are others too So you can make 700 different unit cards and 117 faction simbols but you can't make 4-5 sets of UI ?? Strange.

Judging by the look of UI if you start playing as Parthia or Athens you are already Roman province.Niceeeeeee.

I never would have even guessed people would have a problem with the UI/unit cards if it weren't for this forum. I still don't actually know what the problem is.

Some people want pictures of units instead of the current style.

So they claim it breaks the immersion and atmosphere, like they do with anything they don't like.

Also I have to point out it had 'Work In Progress' plastered all over it, it's a little disingenuous to call it 'confirmed'.

How is the UI design automatically taken as a lazy design. Maybe it is simply a design choice. An attempt to modernize the UI perhaps?

i like this UI, its rly making the game look as a game from 2013 and not cheap "wanna be" UI

I think it's ok. For me, ui does little in terms of immersion. The way I see it, it's not really part of the game world anyway.
