    Default Forts in Rome II?

    Hello friends,

Has anybody heard how forts will work in Rome II? In RTW they were kinda broken as they always put the defender in a position of either sallying out and attacking or being starved...

In Empire they were still near useless and I can't remember if they were in Shogun II (if they were I never used them), so I'm not sure if this has changed at all. Sorry up front if this has already been answered.

There were no forts in Shogun II . I also hope that they will improve the fort-feature in ROME II, because it was indeed somewhat crappy in the previous TW-games..

The only piece of news on forts I could find is on the official forums.

    http://forums.totalwar.com/showthrea...features-specs

Armies have at least three possible stances that you can place them in during a turn. I’m not certain the mechanics of how they will play out in the campaign are quite fixed, but it was hinted that switching stances would take a turn. They are... normal, ambush (hidden from the enemy’s sight), forced march (quicker to move, but if caught on the hop, they’ll suffer diminished combat effectiveness), defensive (given a fort or palisade to defend from)
And there's the weather pictures posted somewhere on this forum. I think those are the forts you'll be able to deploy.

None of these pieces of information completely answers your questions though

Forts were great in RTW (or better EB, I played vanilla RTW just for a week) because you could slow down the enemy. I saw them as fortresses build in places to guide ways to the homeland. I don't think that we get forts in R2TW that are siegeable and open a siege map. I would wish to have different tiers of forts, as in ETW but with better funktions. Tier 1 would be cheap and build immediatly and open an usual battle map the moment it is attacked giving a defense bonus. The last tier should be rather expensive and very slow to build, resembling a fortress; it should be necessary to build siege weapons to attack it so that it can hold out a bit. Wether it opens a siege map or battle map I don't care for.

I think hillforts will be an early stage of fortifications for Northern Barabarian factions' siegeable cities.

I'm thinking that the skill / level of the general / legion combination will determine the defensive complexity of any fort or structure. Maybe?

Thanks, I just wasn't sure if I'd missed something. I guess we'll all find out in a month and a bit.

I hope they are in, and the weather screanshots seem to show this as well.
