A simple twist on that other thread.
According to that one's poll, a slight majority THINK abilities will work like in Shogun 2 but do people actually want it?
To clarify: This means stuff like having flaming arrows be a temporary buff with a cooldown, instead of a tradeoff like in R1 and M2.

Problem is flaming arrows was usually always on and with only minor repercussions. If not having flamer arrows ment much faster fire rates, more accurate with less damage then I'm all for the old system.

The only abilities I would like to see are historical ones like Roman formation switching in shield wall giving a boost to the fatigue if low. In honesty I'm not a fan of unrealistic abilities but I fully support formation doctrines like shield wall and ranked fire which definitely shouldn't be in game.

That's exactly what the old system did. In Med2 fire arrows took 3 times as long to fire and were more inaccurate but wore at the units morale.

In the last game fire arrows was OP. They have been in every total war. Some mods improved this such as RS2 or Stainless Steel.

Dude... keeping fire arrows on all the time in RTW was completely retarded. Flaming arrows made you unit reload much more slowly and fire less accurately. While they did give a slight boost to missile attack power and a morale penalty, it's just not worth the trade off unless you're trying to amok scythed chariots/elephants or trying to lower the morale of a unit before charging it with heavy cav, so it routes on contact.

I personally think abilities should be more like those in RTW.

I can't speak for the first two total war games buuut, where have you been since 2004? Different abilities have always existed in TW...
I am the author of the "Weaker Towers" and "Officers Of" series of mods for Total War: Warhammer!

    I meant general abilities.

Formations, Toggle abilities are fine. IT's abilities from generals and stuff that need to go away

I'm happy with abilities if they make sense, like fire arrows and stuff. I personally think they should try to make as few toggles as possible. Like warcries should just be something a unit does when it attacks, not a button to click, and it should only scare green units. I'd like to think my elites are not scared by a bunch of barbarians making noises.

RS2 reduces the effectiveness of arrows by themselves. I haven't played any of the vanillas in a while so I can't say much about them. Standard arrows (never-mind fire arrows) in Med2 were pretty OP, IMO.

I want it so fire arrows are a different ammo that takes longer to reload, and is consumed much more quickly.

I don't have problem with fire arrows but I don't like unbreakable morale abilities like Hold Firm or Banzai. I guess I have to live with them in Rome II.
