How should we know? My guess would be Rome, but how could we possibly know?

I voted Rome and carthage (carthage have a very nice position at the begin of the game with a lot of advantages) like in real history at the first punic war...
Rome..because about it is the game O.O
I'd have to say probably Rome, but it really depends on the playstyle of the player I think.
Egypt is initially one of the strongest, as it has two wonders, four resources, no major factions nearby other than the Seleucid Empire, another wonder in its neighbor, and a vassal with two regions with a rather rare resource.
would that be the strongest playable faction? because with all its client factions, im quite sure the (unplayable) seleucides will be the strongest. the gauls are the arveni btw.
@Ellixhirion
afaik you need more posts to vote in a poll.
Looking at the starting positions I would have to say Egypt looks strongest. Hard to say without seeing what shape the cities are in or what kind of armies they start out with.
You only need to look in the previous Rome. They was a wrecking machine, although there was 4 factions lol.

Definitely Carthage. Historically they were on the ascendant in this period, and they own a large number of regions to start off with, plus two rather large vassal states. No reason why we don't see Carthage expand into Sicily and Spain in the first couple of turns, and I think any Roman player will have there work cut out for them if they decide to tangle with Carthage too early.
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

At the start it should - and it looks also it is - be Carthage.
