Default [POLL] Do you think Rome II will use Shogun II abilities?

What I'm saying is that do you think Rome II will have "rechargeable" abilities (ie having to wait before using fire arrows) or Rome/Medieval II abilities (can use fire arrows whenever.)

Hopefully the first. The latter could get dull, both overpowered and underpowered.

Actually, they wouldn't necessarily be overpowered or underpowered.

Fire Arrows in ME2 were balanced to be used as much as you wanted.
They would have their ups (better morale effect) and downs (slower rate of fire)

Honestly I prefer the M2 version of fire arrows. It breaks immersion for me when you can use it only once every 5 minutes, which means they get used twice in most battles. The way it was balanced in M2 should be tweaked to make it even more balanced and re-instate that cool-ness factor of using fire arrows. It felt to OP in S2 anyways. Just my 2 cents.

Didn't Fire Arrows also have a bonus vs armored units in ME2 or something?

That's probably one thing that they could definitely have gone away with. The main purpose of the flaming arrows should mainly be used vs ships, to break morale & light up the battlefield at night.

    Poll, where?
As for the abilities, I don't know, some are rechargeable, some are not (in Shogun 2), I think they made fire arrows rechargeable for balancing, since they are quite more powerful than normal arrows. They'll probably keep doing that, if an ability is powerful it will be made rechargeable, to avoid overuse.

Personally, I would prefer to have ability cooldowns to prevent abuse. I love the way it worked in Shogun 2, there's no reason to change it.

I hope they use the Shogun system. It required some extra micro-management (I would always forget to use the abilities! eg/ increased pace for the yari infantry) but is better than constant fire arrows etc!

You might want to change the poll options to better reflect the thread title. Just my 2 cents.

What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?

I damn well hope it won't. It's a stupid thing. Rerchargeable abilities are idiotic when you can make tradeoff abilities that are more tactical and fun.
I hope it was just another element of Shogun 2's arcadeyness to account for its very limiting setting.

The rechargeable abillties sucked, felt like that game Warcraft III. I want the old way back, the old way is always best.

The worst was the shrapnel shot 'ability' for artillery in FoTS - that just made no sense whatsoever to be on a cooldown. If an ability is so OP that it needs a cooldown then you should probably be revising the effect of the ability.

Exception being Rally type abiilties where it makes logical sense to have a cooldown.
