(Wanted to be the first)
I'm playing RTRPE1.6 / bi.exe with Marcus Camillus' 4tpy mod. I'm also using King_Azzole's animations edit. As I've not completed a campaign before, I'm playing on M/H. I'm managing all the settlements and the taxes myself.
I'm just about to finish off the Illyrians, they have been bothering me for ages now but I never had the man-power to focus on them because I was busy with Carthage.
My position in North Africa is strong, holding the harbour towns I aimed for - I invaded a small way into Africa and turned the towns I conquered over to the Numidians because I didn't want them and if I left them to revolt, my game will crash! lol!
I've pushed the Gauls back across the Alps and now they're easy to keep at bay with my forts in the mountain passes, I eventually intend to expand as far as Alesia; but this is on the backburner now that Gaul have signed and Alliance with Thrace. I'm desperatly trying to set up forts on the bridges the seperate me from the Thracians because, as you can see, they are doing pretty well at the moment.
It's interesting to see that neither Macedon nor The Greeks have dominated Macedonia and neither of them have died! Thrace seems to be pushing north like these two typically do.
Armenia seems to be doing well for itself in the east, but nobody has expanded as far as the Selucids! They have some really big stacks wandering around in the middle of nowhere - don't really know what they're up to.
Oh, and that small dip at the end of my ranking is because I have just finished a MAJOR shopping spree to get rid of all the money I had accumulated, lol.

I've kind of set myself a target to only take settlements with ports. Don't know why, thought it'd be fun. I'll take a couple inland to keep my borders looking "good" though.
I'm playing with the Imperator II Mod as the Romans of course.
Started out 280 BC and now it's Summer of 152 BC. The campaign has given me numerous strategic problems but after alot of effort, I'm pulling through.
While securing Italy, Macedon, Germania, Pontus, and Iberia were allies. After I secured Italy, Macedonia turned on me. Then Germania did the same. Pontus just left when Macedonia turned. Then Gaul came charging in from Northern Italy. I was fighting alot of powers, 2 of which were major powers. Originally, I wanted to take Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. But Macedon has taken up so much of my efforts. At Regium, I can see the Carthagenian and Rebel armies there. I know just ONE Legion can annihalate all opposition there. But all forces are tied up in the North and in Greece.
Macedon has taken most of my time in warfare. I've been at war with Carthage longer, but my Navy keeps them at bay for most parts. I can't cross into Africa since I've been busy elsewhere.
Macedon used to be a strong ally against Epirus and the Greek Cities. But they got really powerful against Thrace and the Illyrians. They then turned against me and I had to wage a still going massive war. I had a huge stalemate at Thermon, Larissa, and Antigonea for a LONG time, unable to drive forward. But I scraped together an army for my 2nd Consul and transferred my battle fleet over to Tarentum. I then sent them to Elis in Southern Grece. From there, with help from spies, I quickly secured and put to the sword the populations there. Elis, Sparta, and Corinth quickly fell and paid for their treachery. Athens was soon to follow. This 2nd invasion started a cascade of Macedonian defeats that so far has stopped at Pella and the nearby regions. I daring offensive led by my best general took Rataria behind enemy lines. The occupants were put to the sword.
With some hard decisions made and good generalship, I wiped away the Germans into only Gergovia (Southern Gaul). Thrace, who had been Neutral with me the entire time, attacked one of my newly conquered settlements in the lands between Thrace and Germania. My few Legionaries and Germanic auxilaries held the line. The Germanic auxilaries are brilliant additions to the Roman armies.
Parts of Southern Gaul is Roman. All of Northern and Eastern Gaul are Roman now. The Gauls had been reduced earlier but are Neutral now. My Iberian allies are in Southern Gaul but I believe there's a resurgent Carthagenian effort in Iberia after they were kicked out by the Iberians long ago. I want to help, but the Iberians aren't giving me permission to cross their lands or trade map information. I'll have to send spies instead.
The fighting's been hard and the strategic situation dire at times, but the Romans have been pulling through.

Rome
PARCERE SUBIECTIS ET DEBELLARE SUPERBOS
To spare the conquered and overcome the proud in war - Virgil, on Roman destiny
A short little follow up.
It's Winter 149 BC. I'm making a gamble.
I sent my Legions in Northeastern Greece to take down Philippi, Bylazora, and all the way East into Byzantium. My Legions are getting extended and replacements now have to travel far to reinforce them. But the Macedonians have been dealt a series of military disasters: The momentum and initiative is in Rome's favor. Even then, Macedonia is shockingly still sending large, successive armies against me from her remaining provinces (none of which are from Greece / Macedonia anymore). During my drive for Byzantium, I couldn't help feel my neck was being exposed... there was a long flank that the enemy could exploit, so I sent a depleted Legion to act as a screen between Philiopolis and Byzantium. Thankfully, Byzantium quickly fell.
Without rest for the Legions, the next objective is Philiopolis, Debeltus, and the strategically vital bridge North of Philiopolis.
By taking these targets, especially the bridge, I can control all traffic going into Thrace and Greece from the North. In conjunction with controlling Rytaria (sp?) a bit to the West, I can put a stop to Macedonian and lately Thracian infiltration in my Northern Greek & Thracian holdings. These infiltrations make vulnerable my less protected settlements.
With the bridges, I can deploy the fewest but effective Legions to defend them. I can rotate Legions far back into the rear of Central & Southern Greece for replacements. I'll do this until my new holdings are further developed to provide Auxilaries.
I have had some rebellions flare up in the old Germanic tribe territories, but they were ruthlessly put down. Thrace had been making repeated probes in modern day Eastern Germany / Poland. I have very few proper Legionaries there, so my outstanding Gallic, Germanic, and Sarmatian Auxilaries have been holding the line in a noteworthy fashion.
I still can't believe Macedon is putting up such a fight after losing Greece and Macedonia itself, now even Byzantium.
I haven't even landed in Sicily and actually deal with Carthage yet. Then there's the huge Seleucid Empire. :hmmm:
On looking ahead, my Eastern Campaign will ultimately drive into Campus Gatae, finish off Thrace, weaken Macedon, and take and hold the bridge North of Campus Gatae. I need to gather information about Iberia. My Iberian allies haven't been cooperative with information and their activity in Southern Gaul has been inactive for a LONG time. It's making me believe that Carthage is waging a comeback campaign in Iberia after they were kicked out. I will send a diplomat and spies to gather information about the Iberian territories.
I will then divert my attention into rich Sicily. Sicily will then act as a springboard into North Africa / Carthage. By taking action there, it should greatly relieve my Iberian ally.
Or for immediate pressure, give a bunch of money to Iberia for Military Acces. I can then send a Legion to deal with any tough Carthagenian armies in the field. It can then immediately weaken the Carthagenians in Iberia for my ally to have a better military outlook there... IF Carthage is campaigning there.
All for the glory of Rome!

A couple words.
1) EPIC
2) I can't wait for Imperator III
3) Give your Iberians allies money if your positive you can take the "hit"
4) If you do step #3 let them fight a lot of the fights(They will surely turn on you..why not "bleed them white?")

1) Sure is. It's been the most challenging RTR / RTW game I've had. Normally, I can blitz and take over the map before 200 BC. Another thing for Imperator II's win conditions: As Rome, you need to capture and hold real distant settlements. Antioch in the Middle East and Londonium (I wonder where that's atOriginally Posted by The Walrus
). Judging by how hard Macedon and everyone else has been fighting me, it's gonna be a while. Good thing the mod uses 4tpy and ends at 180 AD, plus 2 Reforms (Marian & Imperial).
2) My campaign will keep me busy enough!
3 & 4) We'll see. I first need to find out exactly what's going on down in Iberia before I fling around money to other people.

A slightly modified Imperator II campaign I abandoned some weeks ago.
Highlights of the Campaign: The sheer challenge of the AI thanks to ATP, Roman Rebellions, multiple naval invasions by Carthage into Italy and Gaul, AI that protected its skirmishers and forced me to develop new flanking tactics, a spontaneous genius born into a family with no intelligence traits (My Scipii faction leader was 'Intelligent'...perhaps he committed adultery)
Waiting (dying) for RTRPE 1.7 before I start new Imperator II and Extended Realism campaigns...

What difficulty and what factions do you normally play as?

usually I play as the roman, and the settings are VH/VH, sometimes... once in a while I change it to Hard on campaign mode.

Greece might be winning because on vh campaign the factions either get 10,000 extra bucks or 1,000 (forgot)
I normally play on hard and hard but with AE which raises the price of everything so battles are more strategic.

How do you get the image to show up in the thread?
Everytime I tried putting up my screenshot with the "Insert Image" tool, it just comes up as a plain clicky.

Just kidding actually. The provincial campaign start at 100 BC. Wish I had times like you guys to actually play my own mod.. :tooth:
Not sure since you use Image Dump, but by using Image Shacks, there's options there just to post the link, the thumbnails or even the image itself.Originally Posted by Warmaker
Using added money_script in patch v1.3 so far I manage to slow down the Macedonian blitz. They still expand but not on the usual rate. But do not play on VH/VH campaign as this script will have great effect if the AI have no monatery bonus. Only small AI factions (together with Greeks & Epirus) have this bonus though.Originally Posted by The Walrus
Hey Warmaker. Probably you can add some gameplay tips in this thread here. After almost a century of fightings I'm sure you have some tips for some newbie generals here...![]()
