I'm not sure that you can put a password on a single folder. If you have Windows XP, you can put a password on your account and then encrypt any folder you want.Originally Posted by Ghost_loy
i already have a pass on my account ( and no its not a porn folder) so how do i encrypt.
P.S. its the folder i put all my rome stuff in ( backups, mods, skins, etc. ) and my brother keeps screwin with it cause he says im taking up to much room
Put the files on a disk. Also is your brother older or younger?
If your account has a password how does he get in? If he knows it change it

Right click on a folder, click "properties". Under the "general" tab, click "advanced". In the window that opens you should see a check box next to "encrypt contents to secure data". Check that checkbox. Then I think it should take some time encrypting the contents of the folder. Now that folder should only be accessible through your account. So if someone else tries to access that folder from their own account, they should get an error message or something.Originally Posted by Ghost_loy

Files and folders on the hard-drive can still be accessed by everyone who uses that computer, excluding the "Documents and Settings" folder which is unique to each individual user. Actually, when you set a password on your account, Windows asks whether you want to make your files "private". If you choose no, even your "Documents and Settings" folder can be accessed by others.Originally Posted by The Walrus
Anyways, basically everyone can access the "Program Files" folder, the "Windows" folder, and anything else, unless of course they have a "limited" account under XP. Regardless of that, the only way which you can prevent other users on the computer from accessing a specific folder on the drive is through encrypting that folder using your own account.

Thanks HoG. Don't really know about that since I'm the only one who plays the computer in my house.

Well, if you are annoyed that someone else is deleting your stuff, putting a pasword on it isn't going to stop anybody - they would just delete the thing without openning it. However, if the computer is wholly under your control, then you can lock them out, go to the settings where you control what they are allowed to do, and make sure that they are not admins.
Also, using encryption on your RTW folder is a very bad idea. Why? It takes processing power to decode it, and RTW is probably going to require all the processing power you have.![]()
Encryption prevents "deletion" by unauthorized users. As far as encrypting a game installation folder goes, I haven't tried it to see if it causes any performance problems.Originally Posted by Lee1026
Nontheless, I think he's just planning on encrypting the folder with all his RTW backup stuff. :hmmm:
That is what I thought he meant too HaG
