    Default Capua Strategies anybody?

How does one survive the Roman onslaught? I am negative 30k, soldiers I lose stay lost, and I have 4 cities under my control. I have destroyed 2 Roman stacks but they keep coming south. Capua is besieged, but I am currently sieging Roma. What can I do to get in a good financial and military position?

You should have gone passive first, turtling slowly and fighting defensive battles against the Romans, before lashing out aggressively.

Try to keep at least two full stacks protecting the border, then get other army (that doesn't even need to be a full stack), send it south and take the roman cities. Once you are more or less established try to advance carefully towards Rome. Also remember to have your best generals leading your armies!

The only problem with turtling is every turn I'm losing huge amounts of money. I was playing defensively until they kept sending stacks to take my cities. I thought maybe if i put pressure on Rome they will fall back a little. On top of that they landed a huge stack in the south in the beginning to protect their cities and to take that rebel settlement.

Oh I see. Then you are in the right track at the moment. Take Rome to harm their economy then go for Sicily (I'm assuming that you have full control of Southern Italy, if not consolidate your position there first). After that you'll see far less Roman stacks.

The next move I should advise you of doing once your done with that would be to take Greece next where some of the richest cities are. This should keep your economy from collapsing into the negative side.

Thanks Aquila, I took Rome and basically leveled the city for money. That took the Romans off Capua. I just built up a second army to finish off Southern Italy. I believe I will follow your advice and take Sicily and then onto Greece. Only thing is I do not want problems with Macedonia anytime soon lol. I have a feeling this Capua Cohort unit roster is going to be outclassed pretty quickly, especially when Rome reforms. Triarii are the only elite units?

Best thing to do to avoid a Macedonian intervention is to pay them off. I do this most of the time. Ever since I read about the tips and tricks of Med 2 diplomacy, I decided to experiment this on RTW with the Julii and RS2.5 with the Cimbri, which I'm happy to say worked. By giving another faction 100 denarii at least 5x per diplomatic mission seems to raise your "reputation" with them. Results of said experiment was a trade deal, map information and alliance without them greedily asking for anything in return.

So if you are frustrated by having to pay 5000 or even 10000 denarii for a trade deal or map information, just give them 100 denarii a few times, close diplomacy screen, end turn then initiate diplomacy again and just repeat process until you get a purely white deal.

With the issue of your roster becoming outclassed, there are a bunch of mercenaries and locally trained troops that can easily deal with the Roman Imperial legions. In Syracuse for example, you get some pretty decent cavalry and in Greece you get heavy hoplites and more cavalry. Just mix over some unit types and experiment with them until you have a pretty decent and well-balanced stack capable of "creaming" the legions.

Actually Capua also gets the imperial legions in the Capuan campaign, and what's more the marian reforms are triggered once you capture Akragas. So its up to you when too initiate the reforms. As for the roman problem, hmmm, interesting. I played the Capuan campaign as well. I admit that the initially romans send a number of stacks to capture Capua but once Hannibal leaves Capua for 'bigger' things the romans divert their attention to him.

PS. If it helps try building some forts to block the roman approach to your cities. It will buy you time as well as saving you the trouble of having to recruit huge armies. I basically built two forts (one north of Capua and one north of Cannae). The romans focused all their attention in trying to capture those forts. I left two armies to deal with them and with another army I captured the rest of south Italy. The romans recieved a severe blow to their reputation and I was generating 15k profit in no time.

Is Capua broken or something? Why can't I recruit certain units that are listed in the buildings? I can only recruit the worst ships and I can't recruit the Bruttian Spearmen. What gives? Also I got a notice for the military reforms but nothing happend? Capua is almost pointless to use. They have a 10 man unit roster including spies.

Same here. I don't know how White Knight2 got the Imperial Legions but I'd like to know how. I know the requirements and all that but I didn't get the legions anywhere.
