    Trikala is a city of about 85.000 people in central Greece with long History. It was known in the ancient times as Trikke or Trikka and it was famous for its horses, it was called Hippotrophos Trikke.
    According to Homer, Trikke participated in the Trojan War with 30 ships.

    The city took its name from the Nymph Trikke and was the birthplace of Asclepius, the mythic doctor.

    In historical times the city fell to the Persians and some years later to Philip II.
    In Medieval times was a center of Thessaly with fortress. It was also an important city in the state of Stefan Dousan and during the Turkish occupation was the center of Thessaly.
    The main sight in the city is the Byzantine fortress.

    It was built upon the citadel of Trikke and was renovated by Emperor Justinianus. In the fortress there is a clock which is a symbol for the city.
