Will and act until victory
Are you absolutely certain she's dead? The last time one of my princesses supposedly died, she managed to give birth to a baby boy several years later.
Yes, they are dead. The portraits of the woman who died do turn grey. Just the royal princesses do not. I am sure Im not the only one with this problem?
Will and act until victory
is tga files for princesses in data\ui\her culture\portraits\portraits\dead\princesses\ ?
No there is no folder for dead princesses.
Will and act until victory
anyone?
Will and act until victory
Is it on the same Abbasids - Bellum Crucis campaign? When you say her dead grayish portrait appears when she died of flood, you mean it's the same portrait she had but in grey color or it's a generic portrait for people that die by disaster? Like generals that rebel/ were assassinated?
All games, stainless steel, vanilla etc. Never had a grey portrait for a princess, only that one time when she drowned by a flood.
Will and act until victory
I have noticed this in SS too, but they never give birth to sons, its like they are dead, but the portrait is still normal, so I can live with that.
This is a bug because of missing dead portraits. Unpack the game, copy the dead portraits from another folder and place the files in the directory as mentioned by den5104.
I regret to mention, but it does not work....
Anyone tried this?:
- Copy the 'princesses' folder from the 'young' folder into the 'dead' folder
- Recolor the copied portraits like the generals' dead portraits (grey scale)
- Cross fingers it works, else have a well expressed, raging fit and blame it on CA
I worked with trace-log and made some tests.
I think, what was mentioned by den5104, is right. The game expects different princesses images from different cultures. What I found in data/ui/southern_european seems to be the 'standard', what means the games looks first for e.g. \data\ui\eastern_european\portraits\portraits\dead\princesses and when not found it goes back to the standard, to the southern_european directory what is complete.
I fulfilled the request of the game by copying \data\ui\southern_european\portraits\portraits\dead\princesses to all other cultures. These images have been cached then by the game. But no success.
The problem seems to be in the game.exe, because the images of the dead princesses are just not used. I assume an unfinished feature from CA, to implement more images from more cultures. I don't know why, but the role the dead princesses images should play was also neglected, reagarding this unfinished feature. Perhaps no-one of the Beta-Testers used the possiblility to marry a princess to establish an alliance, this bug stayed undiscovered during the patches.
So, what to do now?
Difficult.
I can imagine when the diplomacy bug is solved (I discovered the solution with the 3 semicolons only few days ago, hence it is not checked by me in my latest game) that it will be not so important to marry a foreign princess for an alliance, because the game should be more peaceful. From my experience I can say the marry-alliance was the only one possibility to keep strong neighbors like HRE away from me for a few years.
For my running game I identify the dead princess image, look for the dead portrait and just put the dead portrait into the \data\ui\southern_european\portraits\portraits\young\princesses.
It is very, very regrettable that this bug is still active. I really hope that the makers of upcoming Total War: Rome 2 will care about bugs more compared to this great game.
@Gigantus:
No. 2 is not necessary, because the dead portraits of princesses are available in standard directory.
