Rome Total War Videos Cut in Half

I feel really ashamed of logging in specifically to ask for the community's help, but I have absolutely given up on using our good oracle (Google) to try and fix this problem. It seems like no-one has ever heard of it!

Here's the deal, I bought the game yesterday, everything went perfectly, installed, opened the game. It ran all fine and dandy, I played for about three hours. Then I had to leave, saved the game, closed. When I turned the computer off, there were some updates (Windows 7 Home edition, 64bits). Installed and then shut down. When I turned the computer on this morning and played the game. All the game's videos were cut in half. I mean, the upper half of them were gone! That includes the ''Activision®'' logo and the intro cutscene. The video behind the main menu also. I can play the game all fine. Can someone help?

Specs: Nvidia Geforce 540M (Latest drivers)
Intel i7
4GB ram

Hello guys! I've the very same problem on my Windows Vista.I have been playing many months rome total war and everything was ok.But in 10th July(two days ago) i installed some automatical update.After that actuallisation all video scenes including background of the menu in my RTR(and expansions) are cut on half!

Then it is as I had feared... The update is more than likely to have caused the problem... I'll try to do a system restore to see if that works... Im not really sure WHICH of the updates caused it... Nobilis, would you care to inform your graphics card?

Yep, I just got that same problem today, after years of it being normal. I hope there is a fix for this, because it's weird. But it doesn't harm anything at least, it's just annoying.

I don't have Rome installed right now but in the main folder is a preference file of which I don't remember its exact name. Delete it and the will generate a new one. This may fix the problem.

Tried deleting both of the ''Preferences'', the file (Preferences.txt) and the folder (''Preferences''). Neither one of them got generated after a game start... Didn't keep the game from starting either, but it did not fix the problem...

If you are playing mod(s), check there for preference files, too.

It's good enough to even play Medieval2.

Have you tried reinstalling Rome since that Windows update? Rome can be pretty cranky as old as it is.

Yes, tried re-installing Rome twice, tried all sorts of updates... Its completely vanilla... Not sure what could have happened, except I''m pretty sure it must be something to do with the Nvidia drivers... Interestingly enough, that Windows update had NOTHING to do with Nvidia, it was just a bunch of security updates...

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers, then.

Ok, great news everybody, I found a solution to this problem!
So it seems that the cause of this problem is indeed the recent Windows update, for some reason. Here's how I did it on my Windows 7 operating system:
1. I clicked Start-Control Panel.
2. Then I clicked Programs-view installed updates.
3. Then I double-clicked and uninstalled some of the updates that had 7/11/13 next to it. (I didn't really know what I was doing, so I actually only uninstalled some of the updates with 7/11/13 next to it.)
4. I then restarted my computer, hoping beyond hopes that I uninstalled the update that was causing this problem.
5. I then started Rome Total War and---no half screen!
Again, I'm not sure what I was really doing, and there are still about 8 updates from 7/11/13 still installed, but it ended up working for me.

Same issue here... After the new Windows updates were installed, RTW's videos are shown cut in half. Does anyone know which update is causing the problem? It would be a major drag to have to uninstall all of them and then go through the hassle of having to reinstall/reboot one by one until the bad one pops up!

Well the updates re-installed last night and I got the half screen again so I had to uninstall them again and turn off automatic updates.

Well they all reinstalled because I didn't think about the fact that my computer was still set to automatically installing updates. So now I've turned automatic updates off.

Ok, it seems that someone over at The Org named pi4t found out that the update causing the problem is Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (KB2803821).

I'm running Windows XP and RTR V 2.0 and this update has removed ALL the videos! Not just cut them in half. No intro vidoes (the battle and the rain drop credits screens), no fighting animation behind the option screen and no ingame wonder videos! Game works fine though
Obviously the Windows update is important, so if there's any way to get the videos back it without removing it (and it'll only be reinstalled later anyway) would be great
