Icon1 Which timeline is this game set in?

Now most of the hardcore Zelda fans know that there are three timelines in Zelda. I'm just wondering which timeline does this game follow?

For those who dont know why, ill explain. After the events of the OOT, Zelda sends link back to when they first meet. Link tells Zelda about what happens with Gannon, so they mostly deal with Gannon early. Thus creating an alternate time universe. The first timescale is continuing on after OOT and that is the Wind waker games. The second timeline is created after link is sent back in time. While link is trying to live his childhood is gets trapped in a different world by a skull kid who stole Majoria's mask, thus creating a timescale from then on. The game that follows are Twilight princess.

But there is a third timeline. The one that started by the defeat of link, thus creating an other universe that is set in the old Zelda games; a link to the pass onward to The Adventure of link.

So which one do you think the game is located in? In my opinion it is the Decline of Hyrule timeline, but again that doesnt make any sense because Hyrule is still here in the game. I think this game came before the OOT. Any thoughts?

None. Word of God (i.e. Nephalim, the mod's author) made it clear that this is not set in any of those timelines, nor another branch.

It's a completely separate continuity intended as a reimagining of the series, much like the new Battlestar Galactica in relation to the old one.

As an addition to the above, and if IIRC, the free-form conquest mode is because Link went back in time and ruined the time stream while he was at it.

There needs to be some lore related thing. I think that will draw some people in, currently the lore of this mod is quite shallow because of that.

There used to be a manga Neph made to go along with this. And some easter eggs from his earlier fan games pop up from time to time.

    @golden Gohma

What I mean was, the story of how it fits on other games is shallow. You can have background history on the fractions but that doesnt really count on how link is tied to this story.

See Here for lore. Now The body of knowledge between the collation of games is shallow.

I'm pretty sure the lore is around. Check the faction threads in the development page. Each unit has a history or explanation behind it, however short. In addition, so do the factions.

The lore was built upon Nephalim's other fan-fic works, but even that does not matter all that much. Long story short, Link used the Master Sword to travel through time, trying to restore the days of his youth. What he managed to do was reset events, allowing fallen armies a chance to change history.

Once upon a time, Nephalim had a timeline up explaining the events up until the point of the mod in the primary thread. He took that down long ago though. Now, most of the lore is found in the faction development threads and in the Hyrule Historia missions.

Just so no one reads this wrong though, let's clarify that Link was not in the canon timeline of the Nintendo games when he went back. That was already Neph's own continuity from his previous games. So there is absolutely no tie between this game's story and that of the official series other than intentional similarities and nods.

The best comparisson of this mod to the official Zelda games that I can think of:

This mod is the Christopher Nolan Batman compared to the older Batman movies. They are completely separate of each other and have a vastly different tone and storylines, they just have the same characters.

...how's that diffrent from my Battlestar Galactica analogy?

Well... I don't think Neph changed the gender of any of the Zelda characters. I believe Starbuck was a guy in the old Battlestar Galactica and a woman in the new(er) version.

(Going off of memory, so don't quote me.)
