    Default Siege tower bug

    Hello,

In the last couple of siege battles I fought, a weird bug came up that I haven't seen before. It only happens when I'm using siege towers (IIRC it has only been with the highest-level towers, so far). Whenever they 'hit' the wall, and the troops get ready to climb up the tower in order to scale the wall, they get jammed right in front of the base of the tower. They seem to get stuck right before walking up the ramp (at the base of the siege tower).
I find it odd it hasn't happened to me before, is there anything I might be doing wrong?

I'm not sure there is anything you can do. It's a bug I first came across in RS2 and I'm not sure if you can actually do anything about it. In my experience it's just the luck of the draw. I've had sieges where one tower has worked but another hasn't and such. It's probably something to do with Rome Total War itself. Someone more knowledgeable about it will probably comment after me, but as far as I know it's just random luck as to whether each individual siege tower works or not.

That is something I've noticed before as well, one of the towers worked, while 2 others didn't. Surprisingly, the ones that didn't work were operated by the same type of unit, but I reckon it would have to do with the ground not being as level as it should rather than with the type of unit operating the siege equipment.
I was just puzzled by the fact I had never encountered it before, so I guess I was very lucky before. All I can do now is spam siege equipment, or just avoid sieges all toghetter =)

In any case, thanks for the quick answer, atleast it isn't because I did something wrong, which is always nice to know

I'd recommend creating an army specifically for sieges, or at least have a small contingent that is designed for sieges, and have within this a couple siege engines for breaking down walls. Or just use sap points, but siege equipment is probably the better choice.

It doesn't happen on regular stone walls in my experience. Only happens on Large or Huge. Or for me that's how it has been.

This bug can be defeated if you select the afflicted unit and command them to move up the wall (preferrably in front of your siege tower) repeatedly, say every ten seconds or so. Eventually, all of them will enter the tower and climb up. Also, when one part of the unit engages the enemy while the others are still milling around the base like a bunch of mentally retarded rabbits, the rest of the unit will automatically start to climb up.
Also, bring at least two siege towers.

Oh, and when possible, use sappers.

Sappers are more efficient (don't hamper your movement, less upkeep, and don't run out of ammo). However the siege engines are good for disabling towers, and AFAIK you can't use sappers against "huge" cities.

I love sap points, but my one issue with them is that you don't get to choose where they go. But yeah, thanks for the advice with the siege towers =D. Also, good point about the siege equipment. It is also expensive as hell.
