The 2.1 realistic one seems to hit the spot just right in my opinion as well. The darker setting really brings out the armor and units nicely.

Please remember the Promoting Illegal Activities clause of the Terms of Service; I just had to delete a few posts that were breaches of that. PM me if you have any questions.
Here are some more pics using the newest version...Not Edited---one thing? How do I get the camera down to ground level?

Yeah I am an idiot, I deleted them. I have some more posted on the DBM forum. Can you post some of DBM. I want to compare yours to mine
Thanks
Do you run AA full in game? Do I need to do anything to activate the mod. Your latest version shows green lettering in the upper left, does that mean the mod is running?
WOW, Nice!! When will this one be ready? Just to confirm, you have AA turned OFF in game right? Why does only half the mod run with AA on? I turned it on a minute ago and it actually looks a little better. Im confused.
With AA switched off the units look crap in game using his mod, so I switched mine back on to x4 and it looks great!
So my opinion is switch it on
Its basicly two things:
Taste and quality your graphics card can provide.
Let me sum it up for you:
GEMv3.x should always have turned off AA in the game otherwise filters that make it differ from GEMv2.x wont apply.
-But you can turn on AA outside of the game -if you have a NVIDIA card with the NVIDIA Control Panel-
-outside AA is much more powerful allowing you settings like 32x CSAA + FXAA
-If you turn off AA ingame you also get filterns from GEMv3.x like FXAA and SMAA on top
----------------- So 'ToonTotalWar' if you still dont like it its better to change to GEMv2.x
GEMv2.x can always have AA turned on in the game + outside the game. It doesnt have additional effects from GEMv3.x but thats why some have taste that like it better.
-Also for games like TATW (with MOS) I recommended GEMv2.x cause its suited for high quality textures
GEMv4.x will be a suitable combination of both but with that strong differ in taste I dont know I can make it suit to anybody
GEMv3.5 is a step into the direction of GEMv4.x so wont seem that different anymore from GEMv2.x but still give you all additional effects.
-yet you need to turn off AA ingame for that and turn it on outside the game for high quality
I hope I could somehow ease your confusion and sum it up
GEMv2.1 | GEMv3.5Alpha (GEMv3.x gives you the illusion of more detail but at the price to also need more AA while forcing you at the same time to turn it off ingame)

Does this work optimally with Call of Warhammer and Bellum Crucis? I installed version 3_1_5 Evolution and ran the injector, but whenever I try to run a campaign with either of those mods the lag becomes unbearable. I can zoom in and out on the campaign map without lag, and select/move armies and units. But whenever I try to pan the camera from Italy to Greece for example, it takes much longer to move. Turning the affects off in the campaign map doesn't improve the performance either. I copied and pasted every file (except the mods folder since I don't have SS 6.3 installed) into the main medieval 2 directory, and all of the effects are working fine, so it's unlikely that my installation is the problem. I play with widescreen turned off and AA is also disabled.
Battles are fine though, I can run the game with several stacks no lag.
Hey Theo, I would like you to try GEMv2.1 and give me feedback on the performance.
I have a few changes regarding this for GEMv3.5, its just not ready yet.
I heard about the map issue and its not because of the effects but some rendering problem.
Please give me feedback on GEMv2.1
What happends to cause lags for me (eventhough never serious) is background running processes from for example FlashPlayerPlugin
- restart and running only M2:TW helps if thats the cause
Yeah, still pretty choppy even with 2_1 realistic. Followed your suggestion on clearing out all non-essential programs but the problem hasn't subsided. Perhaps it's just a hardware/compatibility issue? My rig isn't exactly top of the line (GTX 460, 4 gigs ram, but the drivers are all up to date).
I'm using the non-steam cd version of kingdoms btw.
