I saw the guy in Gorgoroth (Gaahl) on stage at Hole in the sky 2004, he looked like a cosy fellow.

As an assignment in one of my English classes, everyone had to find song lyrics that meant something to them and they had to give a little presentation about why they found the lyrics moving.

Some jackass brought in the lyrics to a song like one of those, and stood in front of the class gave a straight-faced presentation explaining why the song was moving to him. The teacher sent him to the guidance counsellor. And I heard he had to go to a psychiatrist after that too. Quite funny. He was so disturbed....

Sometimes I wonder, do people really naturally like that kind of music?

This is Jim Carey's favorite band, and I know plenty of people who like Cannibal Corpse. The lyrics are there to shock people, that's pretty much the whole point. I do think this is stupid though.

that ****_s good. have an open mind sometimes guys. dont talk crap either. half of you probably wouldnt have the nerve to go to a show muchless mosh or dance to music like this.

It comes with appreciation for artists to think outside the verse_chorus_solo_bridge norm. The originality, the scales played, the talent, the shows, the primal feelings you get from this music. Its taking everything I loved from classic rock and alternative, and turning it upside down. Just how I look at it.

Side note- I've been to a cannibal corpse show, and I make music relative to such music.

ah yes, Cannibal Corpse.
Their music is average IMO, not really a big fan of brutal death metal.
But their album covers are just great tho

the lyrics are not that bad,in so much as if you listen to any of their songs you cant make out single word said.

Mayhem, Gorgoroth...if you are into the black/death metal stuff, well you propbably have heard some really weird **** that doesn't even get close to this...hell, the guys from Mayhem were burning churches, killing people, killing themselves, making drum sticks out of bones from a dead band member...normal stuff...

up mayhem were possibly one of the most insane band and indivudals ever ,they even took pictures of the dead bodies of their bandmates to look at.

It seems like the worst of them are Norwegian... Interresting

Im pretty sure they wouldnt discriminate who they kill on the basis of thier skin colour or sexuality, there are plenty of racist skin head bands (also death metal), so whilst this band is very disgusting, they are not the most I have heard, they are a close second.

Burzum - Varg killed Mayhem's Euronymous, possibly involved in the burning of many churches, including the Fantoft Stave.
Mayhem - Dead shot himself (Necrobutcher made a necklace from skull fragments, Euronymous cooked and ate part of his brain), Euronymous wanted to torture and kill Varg on videotape, was eventually killed.
Gorgoroth - They just had some pigs heads and crucifixions at a show in Poland, which got busted, plus one of their members raped someone.
Emperor - Mortiis was forced to leave the country after some crime or another, Faust was arrested for stabbing a gay man to death, Tchort was arrested for theft, Samoth was arrested for church burnings.
Thorns - Snorre was arrested for church burnings and being an "accomplice" in the Euronymous murder.

But that's just the actions of Black metal. If you want odd album covers though: Dawn of Black Hearts by Mayhem features pictures of Dead after the suicide, and Dimmu Borgir's Spiritual Black Dimensions has many close up shots of, um, female internal skin, pierced by barbed fishing hooks, inside the booklet.

Lyrics-wise, Black Metal isn't really gory. It's more Pagan/Satanic stuff. The exception being Dimmu Borgir's "Tormentor of Christian Souls", which really is quite violent.
