Never before have I had a single unit, of anything, get over 600 kills in one battle.
Do you have any similar stories re Ribaults (or other seige equipment) completely annihilating an enemy army single-handedly?
Here's a summary of mine: (PIC a few posts down)
fighting as english
against norway
late late game, h/h (all enemy units are highly armored heavies)
standing on enemy bridge outside hamburg citadel
enemy comes to attack with two stacks of heavy inf/cav\
just before the battle i recruited a couple swiss pikemen, to spare my heavy swordsmen from combat, as i wanted them fresh to take Hamburg proper (it was well defended)
so thats the context, here's how the battle went down.
- found my archer stakes didnt work so well at that bridge.
- made a funnel (two parallel lines of inf to "extend" the bridge.) with my army; swiss pikes closest to the bridge, then some halberds and swords to extend the funnel and narrow it slightly (bring the sides together).
- stakes placed half way down the funnel, at the end of the pike lines.
- right at the end of the funnel, i placed a unit of Ribault. the infantry lines were almost touching on either side of the unit.
- just behind them i had a unit of archers and another infantry
the battle commenced
the rest of my archers engaged on fire at will, with the sherwoods using fire, i saved them for later.
when the enemy stack was half way across the bridge, i commanded the Ribault to fire at an enemy unit a few back from the front.
carnage ensued.
the pikemen got to do a bit of fighting, but really that battle was all about the Ribault.
I had a second unit of ribault right behind it for when the first one depleted ammo, it would run off to the side and let the second one come up and begin fire.
....
my thoughts:
it felt like cheating, since the ribaults can impale many men with each bullet.
is the fire rate of the ribaults too fast?
