Shouldn't be too hard...what is that 3 or 4 extra regions?

I'm going to play as Epirus. They have and interesting history and good heavy cavalry.

Sparta seems too mainstream now (thanks, Obama), Epirus is just Macedon's faithful chiuaua, Athens is the way to go.

I would play as Macedon and reforge the empire of Alexander the Great, thus turing Epirus in my Ally, and Sparta and Athens in my vassals. But if I really have to choose, I choose Epirus. Sparta does not seem very appealing since the game allready starts in 270 BC. Also Athens was not much more then a regional power. Only Epirus seemse worthwile.

I find it hard to reforge the Empire of Alexander since you have to figh against greek like armies if you want to conquere old lands. That seem weird to me.
I will play as Athen, creat alliance betweem greeks faction and protect Adriatic against roman army.

They're down on the list, tbh. I'll get to them but probably after playing most of the others in the main game first. I don't think that they have anything special in terms of gameplay that other factions don't also have. We'll see.

Well apperantly a lot of elititist yet rather childish gamers who tend to hate Sparta due to thinking that their only appeal to normal people is the 300 movie.

Completely oblivious to their interesting cultural and military history and the fact that Sparta waged independent wars of conquest in the period and was easily the most prominent and elite military force of the three, for a time yet after the start date.

What if Sparta had won against Macedon? I'm gonna find out

It's difficult to answer which one is the best to play as, because they are so different. In the end, it comes down to your preferences: If you like strong traditional Hoplite armies, then you should play as Sparta. If you want naval action, cultural bonuses and a better economy, Athens is a much better choice. And if you like Successor-style armies - pike phalanxes, heavy cavalry, Illyrian auxiliaries and war elephants - then Epirus is the one you should choose.

Myself, I'll be playing Epirus first, and only after that I'll try out Athens and Sparta in no particular order. But all of these 3 will have to wait until I've played Macedon, Carthage, Rome, Arverni, and probably also Parthia and Pontus first.

Uh, no, you got it wrong. Unless I've misunderstood the faction descriptions, it's actually Athens which starts as a vassal to Macedon - whereas Epirus pretty much is the arch enemy of Macedon. It's just that the army composition of Macedon and Epirus are similar, though there are some notable differences as well.

I will play both of 'em but firstly I guess I will try Athens

Athens for its Navy, increased income from raiding, technological bonuses and powerful defenses. Sparta comes a close second. Epirus with its little villages is totally uninteresting to me.

Epirus should have the most interesting unit roster of the three: phalangites, axemen, very good cavalry, war elephants, war dogs(?).

This. Well said. Sparta and Macedon ally to beat and kill Pyrrhus, so how is that for plausibility. Then Athens and Sparta both ally to fight Macedon in the 260s bce (with a little help from Ptolemaic Empire ;-)

It is so sad because the majority of people drooling over Sparta have not even heard about them prior to the movie 300.
