Default How has this game aged?

I've been wanting to give it a shot. I used to come on here frequently when I was younger and I loved tinkering with the games mechanics and notepad stuff for mods. But I don't know if that will help if the game itself still has the same charm, does anyone else still love it like they did back then?

I find that this game still keeps pulling me back after all of these years. From the activity within the Medieval 2 sub forum, I would say that many will agree.

It has aged well, I think, try out some mods like TATW, BC, SS or Thera, they improve the game a lot or make more fun.

I think that from Rome 1 on all Total War games have been amazing and have aged spectacularly. Many many people still play Rome and almost a decade after its release as well as Medieval 2. This has to do with the amazing mod community who have made mods like Stainless Steel and Third Age that just change the game completely. There is a reason why Medieval 2 is still thought to be one of the best Total Wars. Give it a shot!

I've recently reinstalled it again and I'm having the time of my life.

In my opinion, this game is much better than all other games in its genre, including the newest Total War installments.

The game was far ahead of its time in terms of computer and video power when released, consequently it hasn't aged, just come into its prime!!!

Pretty much this. It was a monster on my old comp when it first came out. Get SS OP, the graphics are amazing with that mod. The amount of detail in the plate and chain sometimes make me feel like the graphics are "better" than empires.

It's aged badly in terms of controls, I find. I can't believe I ever managed to play it exclusively on a touchpad.

This game has aged amazingly. But like all empires there is a downfall.

IMO Medieval 2: Total war is on its prime, its climax of existance. The reasion behind it? I think that has to do with the two most popular mods being abandoned, SS6.4 and TATW. These two mods are not abandoned and dont have any goals for the future. The only thing keeping these afloat is the subomds for those mods. But eventually they will be abandoned.

TATW can't really go any further as far as I can see(not a LOTR expert), they could only make a final version which would incorporate the patches + most popular submods into one installer for the convenience.

SS still can improve, it has great submods that need to be incorporated and lots of new skins and some polishing on top.

Stainless Steel mod has given the game a timeless quality to it.

It still doesn't compare to RTW on the first few campaigns, but its a solid way to spend those quiet weekends

When I got my comp back and running it was the 2nd game I reinstalled. Still learning new things about a pretty vast game even after playing it for years.

It's the first Total War game I ever played and it's still my favorite. Third Age gave it new life, to me anyway. I'll stop playing for a while when Rome II comes out, but I know, eventually, I'll return.

Still lots of life left in this game. There are virtually endless possibilities with mods.
