Default Downloading Shogun 2 from Gamefly

    Hey all,

So far, this has been one of the most infuriating things I've ever done.

First to buy the damn game I had to call support, which took forever.

Now, I finally get the game purchased and I find that I have to download their stupid download client in order to download the game. I remember the days when you simply bought something and pressed download. . .

Now, when I open their client I have the option to "play now" even though I have yet to download the game. And it says that 'A third party download is required' and it points me to an FAQ that tells me to read the instructions back in the client.

I'm trying to download the game on my laptop while I'm at my brothers because my internet connection sucks. Then I can put the game on my PC and I'll be good to go.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

It won't work that way except in offline mode, maybe, as long as it stays on your laptop.

All the registry keys the game you will need to play on your desktop will still be on your laptop.

Do they have a support phone number?

I'm looking on their site and I can't seem to find one.

    You're kidding me. . . .

So I have no choice but to take a week and a half to download the game?

Why not just use your Gamefly activation code and download from Steam? Your account will be there when done, anyway.

But if I download it on my laptop on my steam account, will I be able to move it to my PC?

Do you have a Steam account on your desktop?

If so, easy. Copy from your laptop to your desktop and verify the game's cahe on your desktop when done.

Alright, this is getting so ridiculous.

I downloaded the game on my laptop and when I got home I downloaded Steam on my PC and updated it.

Inside the directory I couldn't find the SteamApps folder that the game was in on the laptop. So, I figured that Steam might generate those folder when it's launched for the first time. So I try to log in to Steam on my account and it freezes on login.

I've since uninstalled it, reinstalled it and repatched, and it still freezes on login.

I would post for help on their forums but no matter how many times I put in my password, it says it's incorrect.

Did you or anyone in your residence have a Steam account on your desktop?

Why not enter Steam anonymously? www.steampowered.com

Ok, somehow I got it to log onto my accout on the steam client.

I moved the game into the SteamApps folder inside the Steam folder.

When I click on it it brings up a steam window telling me how long it's going to take to download the game. I tried going into the Steam library to verify the games cache and it's greyed out.

I think I had it installed on my computer at one point but I had to redownload it the other night cause I couldn't find it.

And it says I need an account to post in the forums. It won't let me log onto my account.

Your steam community forum account is different from your actual steam account, something I believe is quite explicitly mentioned.

Is the game in your game library?

If so, delete the clientregistry.blob and a second .blob file in your Steam folder. Steam will regenerate them.

You should use the Steam Backup Feature to move the game to your desktop. Copy&paste the game files won't work.

    Using the Steam Backup Feature:

Yeah, and he's back to what he's tying to avoid, downloading the game on a slo-mo connection.

On the laptop use the Steam Backup Feature to make a backup on a portable drive, then install steam on the desktop and log in to the Steam account, choose "Backup and Restore Programs", then choose "Restore a previous backup", click next, browse to the backup folder in the portable drive, click next, then steam will install the game from the backup files, don't need re-downloading the game.

I understand that but it does not help with his download speed. That is controlled by his IP. Steam's servers are faster than 90% of the IPs in the US so the fault is not Steam's on this account.

I thoight Steam Backup was in their cloud only. If one can back it up on an external or another computer, great.

You can copy it to DVDs/ I think Shogun 2 will need probably 5 DVDs.

On the other hand you can also copy Shogun 2 data folder or even the whole Steamapps folder (if you have other games) to maybe a portable drive and just copy them into the other pc. On the new pc click on Install and the game seems to be downloading but it will finish in matter of seconds (depending on connection) since Steam will just need to download little stuff while the main data of the game is already there. That's what I have been doing if I need to reformat drive or reinstall Steam etc.
