    Default Curious bugs

Hello there. First time poster here.

I've recently reinstalled MTWII after I could no longer contain my nostalgia. The game managed to satisfy my nostalgia, as it is just as awesome as it was back when I was playing it as a kid. However, while playing through a new English campaign, I stumbled upon two bugs of which I'm not entirely sure whether they're commonly known (forgive me if there is a bug thread somewhere, my forum-fu is rather weak around these parts...).

The first one was one which made my faction leader lose out on those delicious crusade bonusses. He was just getting off the boat on the southern shores of Antioch. Amongst the many angry fanatics in his army there were also a couple of ballistas. Now, to the east of Antioch was a small Egyptian army. I realized that I would be able to get to them AND siege Antioch with my ballistas in the same turn, if I were to leave the ballistas on the shore while the king and his army engaged the Egyptian army, and then meet with the ballistas at Antioch. Unfortunately they were too far away from eachother to join armies, but when I sieged the city they were both present.

However, I made the fatal decision of attacking with my ballistas, which were no longer part of the crusade as they were now a seperate army, instead of my main crusading army. As such, despite my reinforcements in the shape of the king's army being crusaders, when I conquered the city, my faction leader received no bonusses and the crusade was announced a failure by the pope due to a friendly non-crusading faction (namely, my faction) having taken control of Antioch. An utter shame.

The second bug is much simpler to explain: my heir's wife was from the Milanese family, however at some point the Milanese, with whom I had a perfect relationship, decided to besiege me south-eastern holdings. I managed to deflect their sieges and I marched south to their homelands. They refused to become a vassal as I expected they would, and so I destroyed them. Immediately afterwards I received the 'family tragedy' message. My heir's wife had apparantly died together with the rest of her faction. 'So be it', I thought, though it was curious that despite her presentation in the family tree noting her as deceased, her picture was not grayed out. I thought little of that curiosity until she MANAGED TO POOP OUT A BABY BOY DESPITE SUPPOSEDLY BEING DEAD. I wonder whether she will ever actually die FOR REAL or whether I've created an immortal monster.

Those were two of the most peculiar bugs I've stumbled into thus far. I'll let you guys know if I run into any more. Agadar out.

For the first bug, after the turn you should have got a message "talk of desertion" for the army with ballista and there should have been the crusade symbol crossed by a red line on their unit card. It means that army wasn't on a crusade anymore because there was no general, and would have deserted the next turn. So when you attacked with it the program treated it as a non crusading army.

second bug, I don't know. I usually never care about the family tree

For the first thing you're talking about, only the army that launched the attack completes the crusade. Your reinforcements don't get the super crusade bonuses. And then, because there's no crusading general in that ballista stack, the game thinks that a non-crusading faction conquered the crusade target so the crusade ends up failing.

Second one is probably some weird bug. If the picture isn't greyed out, then that person is half-dead? Who knows. But she shouldn't die simply because her parent faction died. I've used princesses to steal family members from a faction (reverse way, I know, but it should still work same) and used those generals to wipe their parent faction out. And these generals don't die.

I doubt generals and princesses are similar in the fashion you suggest. When you seduce a general from another faction, his new (parent) faction becomes yours. Hence he doesn't die when his former faction dies. Princesses however seem to be unable to change factions, and I think that just like with other agents, they die together with their faction. Hence why my heir's wife, who was from Milan, died. The curious thing however is that not only is her picture not grayed out, but she also had a baby while being noted as dead. Most curious indeed.

Another strange bug I ran into was when I was curbstomping Poland and offered them to become my vassal. Much to my surprise, the suggestion was noted as 'balanced', and even more to my surprise, they accepted and became my vassal, despite them having at least four or five territories and at least three generals left. Any way. the bug was when they accepted vassalage. For some curious reason, the French, Milanese, Scottish and Romans, all who had alliances with one another and Poland and all who were ALREADY DESTROYED by me save for Poland, suddenly liked me again according to the reports I received. Yes, I received reports stating that these dead factions had made a ceasefire with me.

    Well, I suppose it's SOMETHING.

Seems you have the beginnings of a zombie infestation.
