Trying to add ambient buildings...
What are the files that I need to be changing? I've been getting annoying error messages (I'm trying to add NTW huts to Chivalry)
I keep getting: "building db, unable to find ambient with id 'eastern_town_wall_straight'"
Rep for help.

Re: Trying to add ambient buildings...
I might be off, so someone correct me if I am , but this is what I know.
You would need all the "di" files, which we don't have. the descr_items.txt contain the info that would get parsed on starting up the game, if you'd deleted the descr_items.db (database) file. The game would automatically search for the descr_items.txt and the content of it what to be parsed. (it would make new "item" files, which are the 3 LOD cas files in one)
for a better example, see the BI directory, when they added new buildings, they made the di_barbarian_invasion.txt. ( /bi/data/descr_items/ )
Now, let's say, you want to add a new building somewhere. You would have to have the new .cas files (3 different LOD), then you would have to make a "di" text file. after that, youd' have to delete the descr_items.db file, but again, you would need all those original RTW building text files as well that are indicated in the descr_items.txt, and all the building .cas files, so the game engine would build an entirely new descr_items.db file with your building included.
The problem comes in, that we do not have the original RTW .cas files for the buildings, only the "item" files if you would extract them with verci's tool.
So as far as I know it is impossible to add more buildings, only alter pre existing ones. Unless I'm wrong.

Re: Trying to add ambient buildings...
sorry, i pm'd this first because for some reason i couldnt reply...
hi, im the one working on settlements for chiv (check out the settlements thread in the chivalry forum)
like archer said, you also have to add the new buildings to descr_items.db, to do that you first have to add them to the text file version of it, which actually we do have! (you can find the one for RTW 1.5 and bi if you look in the scriptorium at the .org for alpacas tuturial on adding building to bi, or there is a link to it from adherbals guide, or if you cant find it i can send it to you) then you delete the old descr_items.db, start the game, it will give you a ton of errors (an error for each item) so just ctrl-alt-del the game, and it creates the new descr_items.db file.
if you mean ambient buildings, like ones that are upgradable and such, you also have to look into descr_settlement_plans.txt in the data folder. If you just mean regular ones, like I'm guessing the huts are, then you just have to define them in the db database which contains the ambient ids which is defined in the descr_buildng_battles.txt, and the files included in that file which can be found in the folder descr_buildings_battle. you can create your own file and then just include it in the descr_building_battles.txt.
coordinating all these files takes some practice, i always make at least one mistake when adding new buildings because if the apropriate names dont match in certain files you will get errors or ctds or both.
if you have anymore questions you are free to ask me, but be on the look out for new european settlement plans in the next chivalry patch.... if i get them done.
