But how can I copy the Roman faction to use it in custom battles? I thought it was a fairly simple process.
hopefully?

Blut und Boden
Which Roman faction? The Republic of Rome is available for custom battle, and the Scipii and Brutii are now Baktria and Epirus. And the Senate has no units for it in the mod.

i guess you could reskin roman units, assign them to baktria or epirus, just make so its nearly impossible to build them in game
You could try modding in loyalty. The .org has a very useful guide for doing it here

In a custom battle you can still have a SPQR vs SPQR battle.
I have fought several custom battles with this setup. I like to have a siege battle, with Romans fighting over the walls of a large city.

I suppose the least I could do is download and try Darthmod, but that'll have to wait a few days.
The questionable realism of the senate and other factions it is definately a reason to drop it, but I do miss the "sudden big war in the interior" moment that it creates.
Do any of the large-scale mods (SPQR, RTW, EB) still retain the 'role playing' element of the senate and eventual civil war? It seems like a fun way to be guided and pushed at first and a sense of narrative.
Well i know EB, and my mod still have the Senate offices in them, but they are assigned as traits now instead of by the senate. And Eb might have a few scripted missions for the player but im not sure.

Thanks Lusted, I'll dig around a bit the next time I want to start a new RTW campaign. After playing a few more TE ones, that is.
I recently paused my Rome campaign to try out a minor like Thrace, and was delighted with how difficult it is!
That said, I'm really looking forward to your Gold release of TE.
