    Default Cataclysm + Genesis = Band of Heroes?

    With the close of Genesis of Empire and the stalling of Age of the Cataclysm: Rebirth, a merging of ideas come into mind for us, and we would like to hear your opinions.

    What we've felt is a good idea is to merge the 'band of heroes' feel of Rebirth with the 'nation building' feel of Genesis;

    So the idea is that, instead of having a dungeon crawler set during the eponymous 'Cataclysm', we will start right after it;
    We will be the heroes who flocked to the land to save it in a time of chaos, and have emerged as the 'Free Companies', bands of heroes and adventurers forged in the chaos.

    The world is a vague medieval one of course, with many races under the larger umbrella known as 'Men' (instead of elves and dwarves, create your own humanoids).

    The Kingdom of Gram from Rebirth is a ruler-less land, and the neighboring kingdoms will seek to encroach upon it.
    Will you, the Bands of Heroes, cling together to forge a new kingdom together?

    You can of course form many kingdoms, but hopefully there will be groups of players together.
    We want this to be a 'band of heroes' still.

    So, opinions?

    I like the idea. But will wait for background and rules to be detailed before committing to play

    Im sick of the magical based and fantasy settings. I personally would go for the realistic semi historical basis of genesis.

    Its one thing to make a character and a few elves or magic and stuff to win things, and another thing to actually build a nation and win with iron and blood

    Then imagine it in a more realistic view; groups of mercenaries forging nations.
    Now while magic would be cool, I never said anything about magic.

    This is just an idea we're considering. There's no reason we won't just keep Genesis going as it was.

    I can see party based rp, but I think that I'd have to really FEEL the story line to do it. If you could lure me in with a story line and say its essentially like a dragonlance type party, I'm GAME

    Which is very hard to do.

    What if we did this, while still keeping Genesis as its own game as well?

    Or we can do them both. Wage war with each other (genesis idea), have a crazy god-draconian npc enemy and carry on with our individual party lol. Why not

    That's what I meant. Do them both as separate RPGs.

    Basically, this idea will still live, but so will Genesis.
    Genesis won't be closed, and I'll actually do that first since there's more content there already 'figured out'.

    The only way I would do some kind of party based thing is if we did something like the end of Megas Alexandros and did a diadochi style game, but otherwise I want the original genesis

    Though heres an interesting idea, if you want to play the Grecco-roman style empire, you can play as part of the Alexander type storyline, and if you want to be an eastener, you can play as a satrap, and barbarians and nomads can do their own thing, though that will take much MUCH more moderation, in both quantity and quality.

    IMO, this sounds amazing. If the others warm up to it I'd certainly play.

    There will be 2 rpg's then, (1) Genesis, and (2) whatever Rebirth turns into.

    Though, with how Genesis of Empire is turning out, I'd rather just call it Civilization.
    What say all of you?

    I still think you can stage them together as one RPG. A hybrid of both, all in one world. Like playing the elves, gondor, and dwarves in the same rpg as playing the fellowship, see what I'm saying? Game within a game type. Or would that be too much.

    I personally want the historical nation building game, Im really ambivalent to the fantasy setting and I've been doing RPGs for years

    And I feel in larger games, magic is just an easy way out.

    In the future, I'd like to find a way to do magic properly. But for now, I'll just have to agree with you.

    And AS I KEEP SAYING *cough*, I'm going to continue Genesis as it was.
    (Though, I really think we should just rename it to 'Civilization')

    As for a magic game, I think one of the ways to do it properly would e to make it a mundane, everyday thing. Or something most people can and will be able to gain access to. Kind of like the Furycrafting system Jim Butcher used in his Codex Alera series or Brandon Sanderson's Allomancy. That would level the playing field and force people to specialise in one or two areas.
