Default Total War: Rome II Soundtracks. Why not Jeff van Dyck? He IS the best!!! Beddow... not

I was wondering why the person who destroyed the musical atmosphere in Empire and Napoleon still is on and makes the same monotonic tunes for Rome II? We all know that van Dyck made splendid tracks in Rome such as Forever and Devinitus. It made me feel alive as if I was living during that age. It did not feel a game anymore. Those tunes and such, just beautiful. Really ancient style. I could compare this to the Last of the Mohicans, where I also felt very emotional with. Beautiful music. Emotional music. Are we going to see it back in Rome 2? It is very important. Share your opinions! Check this as well, just astonishing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6ED1zouIQo

Don't be too fast to judge, Richards music in the Battle of the Nile demo is very good and suited the battle perfectly (IMO)

Perhaps I am judging too fast. I am just evaluating how he performed this far. You have to understand I have my doubts. I have to listen to the music track once more, but he should be a given one more chance. Just a shame that Dyck's music is used in trailers but not in the main game. It had to be the other way around. Nevertheless, if Richard does not live up to "my" "our" expectations, than I should suggest they should sack him. We'll see how it all will turn out. But the campaign music is a bit the same as the Indian music in Empire. I heard it in the demo. I loved the van Dyck's different tracks, they were more motivating!

Whats with ETW and NTW ??!!!

Both had top notch soundtracks and NTW had an EPIC soundtrack... just the memories of the main theme give me goosebumbs....

And from what we have heard, Richard has made a perfect job!

The Teutoburg soundtrack was simply awesome, although we could not hear much of it , due to backround sounds:/

PS: Sadly, you could not hear anything in the Nile demo due to backround noises.

You liked music that was either A.) generic and taken from a pool of sounds that other shows/movies use constantly (for instance, the Gregorian chant) or B.) Bagpipes or the same, generally, orchestral crap every damn battle?

You have to admit that Rome 2's soundtrack is much better than Empire and Napoleon's.

How pre-conceived of you - we know nothing of Rome 2's soundtrack yet.

Ha, the Teutoberg track from the demo is awesome! Number one song on my playlist in terms of playcount, I put it on repeat while I work out! I'll admit what I heard of the campaign soundtrack wasn't inspiring, but it's not supposed to be. I don't want my blood pumped for a decrease in taxes for Gaul, just something to provide ambience. I kinda hope they did like in Civ 5, where the music changes based on whether you're at peace or at war, would make things more interesting.

Jeff didn't really deliver that much of an orchestral sound a lot of times. Beddow on the other hand can. That doesn't automatically make him better, but he did a decent job on Empire and a good job on Napoleon. After what I've heard, I think I'll like Beddow better.

I thought Beddow did a pretty fine job with Napoleon (didn't play Empire), but I admit I would be more comfortable knowing that Van Dyke was composing for Rome II. That man hits a homerun every time.

Beddow's doing a much better job than many thought he would, and I hope he can deliver on the rest of the soundtrack.

If CA plans on getting another composer, they should get Thomas Bergersen

But it's probably too late and CA would rather save money by paying less for another composer.

I think, like Richard Beddow's stuff, it's more movie action sequence rather than a pace suitable for TW games, that's why I prefer Van Dyke's work.

I'll admit that I also had my doubts over Beddow. And I'll also admit that I still haven't heard any battle music that convinced me that Beddow is up to the task.

I will however, admit, that the campaign music heard in the E3 was superb to say the least.

It's far too early to judge Beddow's work.

I thought the battle music in Empire was hit and miss - the Indian and Ottoman tracks good, the European ones irritating to the point I'd switch the music off - I thought the campaign map music in Napoleon was excellent, although I thought the theme was too bombastic (although that actually suits Napoleon's character). With that in mind, the campaign map music from the E3 demo, the Nile Trailer and the Teutoberg battle all sound excellent. Beddow can make some fantastic ambient music, perfect for the campaign map (the Gregorian chant in Empire seemed out of place though). I'm going to leave judgement till I actually play the game, as right now it's too little and too early to criticise.

I like Jeff as much as the next guy, but all the music I've heard so far has been just fine - especially in the Teutoberg walkthrough. Then again, I've only heard battle music, so I'm not sure how good the campaign music will be.

Funny how you guys mention the Teutoburg forest music I skimmed through it and caught a glimpse of a light cavalrymen's horse kicking a guy in the face. pretty awesome lol

better hope that Beddow doesn't come to these forums. Otherwise you're likely to heard a loud screech instead of the music every time the game detects a TWC member playing Rome 2

Haha, that is a funny remark. We can say that the opinions are clearly divided. But as Always, we shall eventually see what will come of it. All praises to the mute button in case of emergencies!
