    Airfix goes burst

Well, its a sad day, i remember when I used to do a lot of modeling with small scale models, infact I still have about 10 unopened models, including an aircraft carrier, will tehy be worth anything in the future?

Mind you once I read that they had all their kits made in France it all became clear, obviously a dastardly gallic plot to take the airbrushes off the aeroplanes and into a certain few years of mid 20th century history....look out for the new Jeanne D'Arc range of historical figures soon

So, did anyone else buy and build these models?

Over 30??? I'm only 27 and I remember Airfix very well. I used to build the model's (usually WW2 Aircraft, then make elaborate dogfighting displays to hang from my ceiling, complete with "battle damage".

Its sad to see them go really.

    Cheers, 'tis much appreciated.

Going by the title of the thread, and the fact that you've admitted to owning Airfix model kits, I'm assuming that you are over 30? Didn't realise that.

So if you're older than me, yet you are my patronee, doesnt that create some sort of a paradox in space-time?

Anyway, what models do you remember having? Personally, i can remember having a USN Corsair, Spitfire IV and Spitfire mk1, a Hurricane, A couple of BF-109's, a JU-88 and a Harrier GR3.

I should probably go to the hobby shop and get a few models before they're gone.

...and when Hitler received his Luftwaffles, he said "where is mein kampflimentary coffee?"

As REM sang, "It's the end of the world as we know it"! First of all, Pluto is no longer a planet, and now Airfix!

Apart from the model kits, my entire childhood, and that of my friend, was taken up with Airfix plastic soldiers. Of particularly fond memory were the forts: Foreign Legion Fort; U.S. Cavalry Fort; Sheriff of Nottingham's Castle, and many others. Another favourite of ours were the "Dog Fight Doubles" kits of WWI and WWII fighters. Ah, happy days come flooding back to an old fart!

Damn...that sucks in a huge way. I did Airfix for years when I was ooo...about 8-9 till around 12. When I got into Games Workshop...

I had loads o' them though. Loads of planes, around 200 odd soldiers, a few tanks. Even a landing craft...ah...those were the days.

My first model was an Airfix Triceratops. Had the Airfix Romans and Gauls as my first soldiers.
My last 40 models would be Tamiya. I'm sure my kids model will be made in China whatever the label on the box says. Christ that's morbid.
    Icon passing. Good times.
...but I think Germany with home advantage will raise their game as always for the big ones and win the title. Post #260
