Icon1 Number of men on the unit card please

In the wake of Teutoberg, Rezzed and E3, it has emerged that the number of men in a unit is not on the unit card, only a green bar to indicate how many men are left

Please CA it is the work or a moment to add these numbers in instead of/as well as the vaguer green bar.
It is quite a tactical sacrifice to make for debatable cosmetic gain, and it is very important to be able to see at a glance exactly how many men you are losing/have left, rather than have to check unit details while in the midst of a battle, which everyone knows can get pretty hectic. I would be very grateful if this could stay in the game

Is that the minimum UI?? It could just be green bars for min and numbers for full UI perhaps!

Isn't the bar better "at a glance" anyway since it deals with percentage and not total number? I remember it being a pain trying to remember how many men different units had at max when I switched from mod to mod. Now we can see the current, max, and percentage of soldiers left. I think it's great!

Either way, if it gets too hectic you could just pause the battle or slide the mouse over the card.

You can't pause in multiplayer without annoying people and anyway my suggestion was to have both: for an easy estimate of the fraction of the unit lost the bar and the numbers for seeing the rate of casualties/minutiae. Plus the numbers could be written as out of starting quantity of troops e.g. 143/160.

    Then everybody's happy

Sorry, too busy looking at that amazing game in the picture.

Anyway, on topic, I don't really care, but I would prefer a percentage with a number beside it, EG, 25%/40

I was thinking the same thing. It's an old picture sure, but after seeing so much desert, germanic forests with a close up of legionnaires looks great.

Is it too obstructive to your concentration to glance to the left? I'd rather the unit cards remained as minimalistic as possible in terms of numbers. That said, perhaps they could add vertical black lines quarterly through the green line so you have a decent grasp of how many troops are left in it.

If a moderator could add a poll, that would be great: Who is pro green-bar minimalism, Who is pro numbers and who is pro both

I really don't care about the number of men. Simply because i always lose some men in squads regardless of how epic the victory is. Also, in the middle of the mess how many men you lose means nothing really, it's just a stat.

By having it in percentage i can easily tell which unit is faring better than the other, so i can reinforce a flank or send some unit to support another.

I do believe, having an option for numbers should be implemented. But also keeping the percentage option to those that want it.

I liked numbers but you become so attached to having a perfectly full-size army that I do want to try without the numbers.

I don't mind the bards because on the left panel there's still the numbers there.

But you have to mouse over the unit or its ui card in order for it to show.

Yeah true but I'm the kind of general who don't care how many of my troops died as long as we're winning. In battles I don't stop to count how many left. That's pre battle stuff for me.

Well, especially in MP this could be a serious problem...

BTW CA has an open job for an "UI programmer". If they'll find him, i think the ui and this will be changed, if not...

LestaT, master of the Pyrrhic victory. Gained Blooded trait, -1 morale for all troops under his command. Gained Dreaded trait, -1 morale for all enemy troops. I kid, I kid lol.

I'm sure I would get used to the bars but I would still prefer hard numbers. It's convenient to take a quick look at all the cards on the bottom and see exactly just how many troops are left. Will the bars at least be on the unit cards or will you have to hover over each unit to see the bar?

Pretty sure the bars are on the actual unit cards.

EDIT: Furthermore, surely all you 'hardcores' would be better suited to a lack of numbers on the unit card, it's not as if real generals could see how many men they had left to a tee.

If they do implement it, make sure it's in Roman numerals as well

Thought I'd revive this thread as this issue is pretty important for me, I stretch my troops pretty thin so need to know their strength in numbers.
Does no one else really care?
