Summary Welcome ladies and gentlemen! Trust me, I am very aware the game does not come out until Septmeber 3rd but I'd like there to be a nice amount of people to start playing a week after the game's released. The point of this series of tournaments is to successfully reenact the Rise and eventual downfall of Rome. The only difference being those who lost battles can of course win them. The series will entail the most important struggles in Roman history and while the game might restrict accuracy, we will work within it. Play in epic struggles like the Punic Wars, the Rise of Julius Caesar and the adventures of Constantine and Julian the Apostate!
Set-Up Each tournament will be set up as follows. These events will occur in a chronologically correct order and each event can have 12 people maximum. Most likely on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4 people will fight each other each of these days. The winners will then fight each other and this will continue until it is whittled down to one. This one person will receive a boost in rank (yes, there is a ranking system) and will move unto the next tournament. The person who comes in second will have a spot reserved for themselves in the next event if they wish to use it. This will continue for all 10 events and the overall winner who has won the most battles and lasted the longest will end up with the highest rank possible (besides my rank of course) and I will purchase them a Rome II DLC. All this time and effort put in for a $10 DLC and some virtual gratification might seem small but it's meant to be. You're playing a game after all
Ranks, you say?
Yes, there will be ranks. The ranks represent your standing in the Grand Roman Republic (the overall clan) and the higher the rank, the more respect and say you have in future events and the powers granted to you.
Battle of Lipari Islands to the Siege of Carthage (6 battles total, more detail in the Teamspeak) Historical background: A struggle between 2 Mediterrean superpowers Carthage and Rome. Only one power can leave these wars that would span 120 years. Great leaders like Africanus and Hannibal fight over the civilized world. Who will come out supreme? The fate of the known world is in balance...
Macedonian Wars
Battle of Cynoscephalae to Battle of Pydna (4 historical battles, 2 scenarios will be made, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: During and post-Punic Wars, the Romans and the Macedonians/Greeks faced off to see who would rule Western civilization. The Romans fought proven warriors and nations, their forefathers. The Macedonians and Greeks thought the Romans would fall before the mighty phalanx that created the Alexanderian Empire. The aftermath was horrific and it saw the downfall of the old West and the fall of old Western military tactics.
Rise of Gauis Marius
Battle of Noreia to Battle of Aquae Sextiae (4 historical battles, 2 scenarios will be made, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: Gauis Marius. A man of humble beginings. A soldier, a general, and to some, a demigod. After the incompetent Consul Carbo made himself a dishonorable man with the invading Barbarian tribe the Cimbri, the Senate elected the proven Marius as their Consul. He reformed the Roman Army, pre-Marian it was more of an organized militia. His string of victories lead to the defeat of the Cimbri and the salvation of Rome. But it was post-war where Marius left his mark. He broke the old rules of a 1 year consulship and reigned for 7 consecutive years using assassination and intimidation. Hi success as a Consul made the people begin to consider a Imperial system in the hands of strong leaders.
Fall of the Republic
Battle of Alesia to Battle of Munda(6 historical battles, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: This is the story of Julius Caesar. The name is infamous and is always reminds people of a story of conquest, love, and betrayal. His conquests were legendary. His love caused political upheaval. His betrayal was never forgotten. From the miracle at Alesia to his overthrow of the Republic and civil war to it all ending at Munda, Caesar's life was one of great ambition that has been attempted to be mimicked even to this day.
Civil Strife, Civil Blood
Battle of Mutina to Battle of Actium(4 historical battles, 2 scenarios will be made, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: After the death of Caesar, Rome was spilt between Republican and Caesarion factions and it would boil over to a long series of civil war. Famous figures such as Octavian (Augustus), Marc Antony, Brutus, Cassius, Cleopatra all made their dirtiest mark on history in these civil wars. It was the death of the Republic and the Rise of the Empire. It was a time of bloody Roman-Roman warfare and created political and social wounds that, in some ways, never healed.
Germanic Resistance
Battle of the Teutoburg Forest to Battle of Baduhenna Wood(4 historical battles, 2 scenarios, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: The Germans. The warlike people beyond the Rhine. Rome is in its Early Imperial Era and is looking to expand. Slowly, the Romans spread their influence on tribes bordering the Rhine and then begin to annex territory outright. The Germans can no longer tolerate the Roman justice system and it is up to one man, Arminius, to stop it. A lieutenant in the Roman Army betrays his army for his own people and will lead the Germans in the massacre of Governor Varus's troops in Teutoburg Forest. While the Romans will eventually put down the revolt, it discourages expansion beyond the Rhine. Some say that Rome could have ruled to the steppe of Russia if not for Arminius and his revolt.
Conquest of Britannia
Battle of the River Medway to Battle of Mons Graupius(6 historical battles, more info as event gets closer) Historical Background: The new Emperor Claudius is in a bad position. The Senate and people think him weak. In order to save his position and his life, he attempts to win where Caesar failed and conquer Britannia. The divided Britons are first seen as easy prey but as the Romans are drawn further North, the harder the Britons become to defeat. The Roman advance will stop around the modern day border of Scotland and until the fall of Rome, the Britons will resist and raid the Romans.
Roman-Persian Wars
Battle of Resaena to Battle of Ctesiphon(5 historical battles, 1 scenario to be created, more info as event gets closer. Keep in mind, the Romans fought the Parthians ALOT so the timeframe might get out of order a little.) Historical Background: Rome and the Eastern cultures have never gotten along well. The two civilizations will clash for hundreds of years. Whether it be against Jewish rabbles or the skilled warriors of Parthia. Blood will run in the desert and only one can remain supreme.
Wars of the Tetrarchy
Siege of Verona of Battle of Chrysopolis(6 historical battles/sieges, more info as event gets closer)
Historical Background: The Emperor Diocletian spilt the mighty Roman Empire as to make it more managable but in the end, unity is always sought after. Declared an Emperor by his soldiers, Constantine (once a hostage of Diocletian) seeks to claim all of the Western Empire and sieze it from the pretender Maxentius. Before the battle of Milivian Bridge, Constantine saw a sign in the sky (the early symbol of Christianity) and under it, the words "By this sign, you will conquer". After Constantine's victory, Christianity began its quick rise and became a violent religion. Julian the Apostate and the Fall of Rome
Battle of Strasbourg of Battle of Frigidus River(3 historical battles, 3 Roman-Gothic/Roman-Roman secarios, more info as event gets close) Historical Background: Emperor Julian is the last pagan Roman empire, his death on the Persian battlefield against the armies of Shapur II marks the end of paganism and the ancient world. After him, more incompetent emperors follow and fall. With each one, the Empire becomes weaker. It is forced to sell off territory after territory to save themselves from barbarians. In the late 400's, the last remnants of the Empire in Western Gaul will fade away. The Empire does not fall in one grand battle or war, it simply fades away and dies slowly. Some say that the Empire never died...

I'm thinking of organizing a campaign event once this ends. It would be hard to do simply because there hasn't been much information on the matter and having to wait for numerous players to finish their damn turns might turn some people off. But nothing is definite and thank you for the compliment

I have gotten this question a bit and it is what is the use of Teamspeak? Basically, teams will be 2v2 most of the time and TS will be used for teams to communicate in real time and also for the sake of the videos. I will be channel hopping interviewing people about their plans an. Giving historical background pre-battle
