Uh, I have to post my plans here, too: Carthage

First I plan to expand my empire (Start) to the east and conquer the historically authentic coast regions -> See attached Picture

    (1)
: To protect my regions from pirates or foreign invaders I will concentrate on establishing a naval power and controlling all naval regions on my coastline at first. Furthermore I will conquer Corsica and further develop my important african cities. By fullfilling this plans I will be nearly invulnerable in Africa. Only Egypt could be a risk, but I will try to make them my trading partner or even ally right from the start.
I won't conquer whole Sicilia, but maybe I have to defend my existing region, so in this province the main battles against Syracus will take place. My politics to Rome will be friendly and helpful: trade agreement, maybe even allying. If this isn't going to work I will use at least a little bit sweet-talk to keep them neutral as long as possible. Same goes for other great enemies.

    (2)
: After gaining invulnerability in North Africa, I will concentrate on the spanish Peninsula. I will take over the south of Iberia and try to make the Lusitanias in the west to be my vasalls/client state, cause I don't want to control further sea regions western of Iberia(2a). If this plan does not work I will conquer Lusitania instead (2b). So my empire will spread - historically nearly correct - until the ominous river "Iber". Also I will gain control over Mallorca and the surrounding sea. Around Sardinia/Corsica I will resign to control the naval region, because Rome could get angry otherwise. After I have achieved my goal, my main empire is established, my main goals achieved. But this will take some time I guess, also I want to develop my cities very well in this game phase. I don't plan to extent any further, maybe I will hold this regions, make an trade empire and somehow gain the cultural or economic victory. I will be peaceful, but also I will prevent any other faction to get too strong and other main factions from getting extinguished. If so anyway, I will military intervene.

But besides that, there are at least 3 possible further historical trends possible. Main trends als followed:

(3a) Rome: Despite my efforts to make rome my friend, they could get too mighty or invading my lands. Then I will switch from peaceful to murderous. First of all I would take over all main mediterran sea regions and banish Rome from the sea, blocking their harbours,...
If Rome is very mighty already, I will conquer whole Iberia, so I can compete. Then I will conquer whole Sicilia and send 1-2 huge armies over the sea to south Italy (and maybe one army from Iberia over the alps to Northern Italy^^). After conquering the province Magna Graecia, plundering some northern cities of Rome and supporting other enemies of Rome (Suebis,...), I will make peace again. Like Hannibal I have no intention to destroy Rome, only keep them on a handable level.

(3b) Numidia / Southern Africa: I'm going to avoid to conquer whole North Africa, because I like some competition and historically accurate borders. But if - at any time in my campaign - the southern factions will get too cocky (some conflicts are okay, would be a welcome relief), I will reserve to conquer them or making them my client states.

(3c) Egypt: If I fail to keep Egypt my friend I will take the whole Lybian province from them, sea region included. To do so, I maybe have to conquer the province Phazania, too. Furthermore I will take over all sea regions in their territory and let them bleed out. Then hopefully they will be in favour of making peace. If not, I'm plundering in their regions until they are ready. Again I have no intention to annihilate the Egypt faction.

I think I have covered for all likely situations...
    North: Iberian tribes and Rome
    South: African tribes
    East: Egypt

This should be all potential enemies. Only the greek states could also play a role, but since I'm about to control the mediterran sea, they shouldn't be worth an own statement. But well...this is all hypothetical, things can turn out quite different. But in the worst case scenario I will conquer all regions as explained in 3a+b+c. This should be enough to deal with any kind of enemy!

Yeah, well...I'm already very excited for the campaign. Maybe I also make a diary about it.

You'll let Iceni live on their island?

But well, if you are Pontus then Iceni are a far-flung faction. Maybe it will take too much time, supporting a Greek army in Britain while having your base in Anatolia...and use up one of the precious army limit slots...

I was thinking of sailing to Britain as Athens, now that I've finally preordered the game, but I think it would be like sailing Shimazu (the southernmost faction) to attack the Date (the northernmost faction) in Shogun II - borders left open, armies busy in a far-away place, and it all ends when your navy is away and an enemy lands a huge army on your shores.

Am I the only one who thinks that most people who are posting in this thread are a little bit exaggerating regarding the size of their future empires? In your shown situation it's mostly no fun to play anymore, because you are omnipotent already and you can hardly overlook your own empire anymore. Campaign victory should have been yours long ago, too. Carthage and Egypt were a great power with 1/10 of your planned conquests. Rome is the only one real faction who gained something similar in size and this wasn't manageable, they split up the roman empire and shortly after that it collapsed finally.

That is why most players don't play to win, but to recreate the ancient era wars and empires. I don't care if I will win a long before I will get such a large empire, I want to create an empire that fits my mind, as I had planned it to be. And that is what this thread is meant for - not for people who play just to win but to enjoy whatever they like to see on the Rome II map.

Hehe, that is true. But we can create the Alexandrian empire as much as it is possible in the game, at least.

As I see it: this people neither play to win, nor play because of the pure enjoyment: by this size of empire, there will be no more AI-resistance, it's only a - boring - matter of time to accomplish the plans. People just want to conquer an enormous territory, which isn't realistic or - god forbid - historically correct. As I said: Egypt and Carthage were powerful empires with 1/10 of the regions most people want to own. Big exception was of course Rome. But for enjoyment or historically matters I - personally - prefer more handable, realistic and less megalomaniac empires. But of course everyone can play like he wants to. I only was surprised by the huge amount of players who lost all sense for size and realism. But it's a game, so bring it on.

As I said, the point still stands. This thread is about what kind of empire you want to build, whether or not the game will become boring after player takes so many regions. It is about creating your empire as you want it from a faction, not about worrying whether you can steamroll the AI or not. Many players, like me, don't care if AI is unable to put up resistance. Once we have our empires as we planned it, everything is satisfactory.

And most of all, this game isn't a history book. People may recreate what they want, they are not forced to conquer 'historically correct' territories even if they are too small or too large. It has been the same in all TW games from Shogun 1 to Rome 2. People who played Carthage in RTW, I have seen many of them take Britain and Germania, and crushing Italy above of all. Again, it is about what you want to create and NOT what it was in history. If people want to conquer enormous territories, it is their choice before everything else, isn't it mate?

For that matter, I never create oversized empires other than Romans and Macedonians. Because the only two oversized empires in this era were the Greeks under Alexander and then Rome. I always take historical territories like you do, never branching out of them.

So, here is a 'post your empire' type thread, I wish to know what you guys have in mind.

Here are a couple of mine:

    My planned Roman Empire:

Alexandrian Empire, playing as the Antigonid Macedonia:

    My Carthage:

Notice how I have full provinces with no region lacking. I like to have full control over my provinces, not sharing them with any other faction.

But when I will ignore my house rule of taking full provinces, I will create some different things. I will also take that territory just south of Egypt, the northernmost Ethiopian region. But here are some things I have planned, just for fun -

The Holy Roman Empire, a millenia before the real one:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Taking Rome will be tough, but oh well.

    First French (Gallic!) Empire:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

And I will try that on Legendary difficulty, if it is possible.

I have planned more empires and challenges, like taking on the whole map as Iceni and Sparta, etc. I will post them later.

So, what are the territories you guys are planning to conquer, and with which faction? I am eager to know what people have planned to do in the campaign.

For the map, go to THIS thread and see the first post. The last map is a simple paintable one. Download it, and of course upload it on a image hosting site and post the link here.

And a hearty thanks to CanOmer, he did the grand job making this map. If only I can find and +rep him.
Well, the game map cannot show the "Alexandrian Empire" correctly because it stops way before India

I wanted to do some more visual planning as well, so here's my revised plans for a Carthage campaign. I've changed my plans a little from the (not too in-depth) ones I posted in the other thread, and went into greater detail this time.

The colour coding has nothing to do with factions, instead it's the order in which I'm planning to expand. Here's the key:

    White: Starting regions
    Red: 1st expansion
    Orange: 2nd
    Yellow: 3rd
    Light Green: 4th
    Dark Green: 5th
    Light Blue: 6th
    Dark Blue: 7th
    Grey: 8th

So my first priority is to unite the old Phoenician colonies, and to destroy my arch enemy, Syracuse. Then, I'm going all-out Hannibal, attacking the Romans via the Alps, but also making it a pincer movement by advancing from the south as well. When Rome has been dealt with, it's time to attack the Greek heartlands and island settlements.

After my old enemies have been subjugated, it's time to test my strength against Egypt. The plan is to carve a path through their kingdom into my ancestral Phoenician homeland. When I'm in control of that region, I will stop expanding, and try to keep my spread-out empire together. Should be a challenging but fun experience, if the new game mechanics are as good as I think.

The important thing is that I'm trying to keep good diplomatic relations with the North-African, Iberian and Gallic peoples throughout the entire campaign, and also with the Macedonians and the Seleucids (or whoever controls the Middle-East when I get there). However, should war break out, I'll consider occupying or vassalising all of the Iberian and North-African regions. Against the rest, I'll just wage a defensive war, until I've achieved a cultural/economic/some other type of victory (or, if my conquests do qualify for a conquest-type victory, then I have succeeded just the same ).

Lastly, thanks for creating the original map CanOmer, I'll rep you for that.

Here's the general idea for my Arvernian Empire, the lighter the colour the later in the campaign I plan to do it. If by the end of it I am still not bored I'll just conquer the whole map. The later parts are likely to be omitted, I'll most likely limit myself to modern France, Iberia, Britain, Ireland, and Northern Italy, maybe Austria too, with a couple of islands just for fun.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Edit: another idea for the Arverni: in green the empire, in blue vassals, in red provinces that will be subject to raiding.

I wonder how you will get comparable ships against Carthage, to get to North Africa. In RTW, I always imagined the fight between little but numerous barbarian wooden boats and great naval powers of the era like Carthage, Greek Cities and later Rome.

Yeah, I am really curious about what kind of ships they will give to "barbarians", and one of the reason why I might keep on conquering and go to North Africa is to face some nice naval battles against Carthage and possibly Rome. Also it will be kind of cool to send javelin armed light gallic cavalry to take down elephants, it kind of reminds me of something...
