Odd that CA would show this, no tactics needed as the Roman army seemed to have already melted (blown) away by the time they got to the top of the hill, even if you tried to lose I don’t think you could.

Pure unadulterated crap, Warscape should never have been used its a **** engine and is incapable of doing justice to this type of warfare perhaps even more disturbingly it looks as if CA did not even try.

The only let downs I could see was the flying troops but they did say they would tweak this down, the crazy balisters, though they did say this might change and lastly how easy he seemed to win the battle by pretty much doing nothing though I wouldn't be surprised if they had tweaked the settings so he would win. So pretty much all my complaints have a nice chance of being fixed happy days

The land battle was really disappointing. Darth will be urgently needed to get some fun into those battles. I will still preorder Rome but its CA's last chance and I am not that optimistic at all

WHY WAS HE NOT INVITED!!!!! His mods were the only reason I played Empire and Napoleon total war! - didn't buy Shogun but if I did, I would have played with his mod installed.

Thin ice - He used tools created by other members. Editing the files does not constitute modding in the same way as the creation of tools etc.

I played Darthmod Napoleon - the exe was cool with good features, the mod included lots of other mods, units, sounds, etc, but little original work beyond making everyone shoot slower. I never saw this new AI he was talking about and the trajectory of the missiles was horrible, this isn't WW2 and his increased cannon damage made forts and buildings death traps until I pointed it out to him.
If you wanted actual realistic combat, you needed to mod it yourself.

Did you play them without? Honestly I think people give modders too much credit. Yes they improve the game but CA makes the whole game which takes a lot more time and resources.

The unit Hud and campaign diplomacy hud and everything is just WAY TO SIMPLIFIED AND LOOKS UGLY! The 3 families for romans look all the same! (same faces with different helmet) the window is Gray/transparent, simple and ugly! Where are the colours? the feeling that you are in Rome or something (Blue, Green, Red for families or something better?!)... roman columns... details around the portraits? This looks like a getho flight simulator 1995 game hud.

They removed so many features from previous titles... sure the AI will be better now with nothing to do besides "attack or defend".

It's official now, I'm not buying this game because I would need a new computer to play it and there's NO way I'm spending more money for 1/2 what I expected in R2TW.

Ah that's what I like about this forum. The more complainers feeling the need to tell everyone they're not going to buy the game, the less chance I'll have to face the same complainers in multiplayer. Looks like a win/win situation to me.

Just an FYI, in case you didn't know. CA wont go bankrupt if you decide not to buy the game.

A rash decision IMO, but suit yourself.

I'm not a huge fan of the HUD myself but it is inconsequential to the outcome of a game. I guess cosmetics means a lot to you as a player.

The look is modern and simplistic. Can't say I like it but I don't dislike it either. What features do you think they removed?

There's criticism and there's overreacting. A lot of people here are overreacting. You can't even give constructive criticism because we don't yet know enough about what we are talking about. Perhaps we should wait for a Rezzed recap from CA if there is one.

Yes I was surprised by the portraits being the same as Rome 1, surely with a big budget they could have employed an artist to make more portraits and ones in which you could easily tell them apart. What's the point of introducing a element of factionalism in Rome, were you compete or influence rival characters, when their portraits are so similar and characterless. I also think the UI cards are truly awful but that has already been much talked about. When they demonstrated the assassination, I was expected a video also It's things like that which make a difference in enjoyment playing the game. The cities are incredible the graphic quality is fantastic but the terrain and battle map look very unrealistic and out of scale for fighting a realistic battle. Looking forward to seeing another battle preview to raise my expectations.

Is it me or the Legionaries go uphill with run => walk => run => walk kind of march? The soldiers have a over all look like they are in unpolished state, kind of dull, the battle is too fast too.
And why do they remove assassination video? or we will only see that with our agent?

Well, everything else look great to me, except that I kind of like Shogun 2 diplomatic UI more than Rome 2: better artwork and is easier to find what we need.

Well, I hope CA have better footage to show because well...everything outside of the cities to me just seems so lifeless, the diplomacy to me actually looks like it has barely changed in comparison with Shogun II and let's just hope they sort out the arcadey mess that is the battles. I know twcentre is NOT the majority of the total war player base but if I'm honest CA promised many great things and from what I can see in my own opinion they have fallen short on diplomacy and the campaign map (although BEAUTIFUL) it isn't busy enough outside of the cities as if anything outside of them is radioactive and is barren of life. Certainly not as great as I was lead to believe by CA though.

Despite this I will probably still play the game while hoping for modders to improve the situation somewhat, or a future patch of the game .

Just took the time to watch the full live code demo. I have nothing specific to say about the campaign map part (I wait for more informations which probably means the game release) but man the battle presentation was ridiculous. It was such a chaotic mess. There was absolutely no tactics involved. Not a single skirmish phase, flank movement, reserve kept to lead a decisive assault. Nothing. All I saw was two kids laughing and pissing in their pants because they saw 2 big explosion. The battle setting was absolutely not balanced. It was just "let's looks at the Egyptians fancy units". I mean common guys. I did it from time to time on custom battle. Choose some fancy units and see how they behave when one army stay in a defensive position to enjoy the graphic and relax myself but we are talking about the main preview of a video game. We could not even look at a melee engagement between two units more than 2 seconds.

The best part was probably at the end when the two "players" saw a compact mass of soldiers drowning in circle and laughing as if it was "epic" when it was just ugly to see.
