I'll cancer my pre-order if I don't see Iceni firing machine guns and cannons while riding cataphrelephants (because let's face it: regular, non-cataphract elephants aren't awesome enough).
As for the actual whining, besides the battle physics/speed still being over-the-top (which we know CA is working on), I don't have too much to complain about. Yes, the diplomacy seems like Shogun 2's at best, or a serious step back at worst, but I'll reserve judgment until I get my hands on it and see how well (or poorly) I can manipulate it to my advantage.
Those damn flying-physics-animations!

It's not. Shogun 2 diplomatic factors only took into account diplomatic actions (treaties, trade, alliances, war etc) but in Rome 2 it also takes into account actual campaign actions such as moving an army into territory without permission, agent actions and 'war atrocities' - which i guess means razing cities/taking slaves etc.
Here's a comparison of the S2 Diplomatic options and what we've seen so far of Rome 2s - (I've used bold to show where an option is the same)
Shogun 2
Request Trade Agreement
Request Alliance
Make Vassal
Declare War
Request Join War
Demand Trade Embargo
Demand Break of Alliance
Military Access
Payments
Arrange Marriage
Exchange Hostage
Rome 2
Payments
Military Access
Trade Agreement
Military Alliance
Declare War
Join War Against...
Non-Aggression Pact
Defensive Alliance
Make Client State
So Rome 2 adds two new options on this screen - a defensive alliance and non-aggression pact, but loses two options - trade embargo and Break of Alliance. Whether they'll appear under another screen is unknown because - just because an option is not listed, does not mean it is not present. Marriages are not listed but they mention it's something you can do, so they are probably handled through the family panel.
My critics:
Politic options I miss at most:
-Demand Break of Alliance
-Exchange regions
-bad joke that they said there will be more options,...
Battle:
-no formations, looked like a (arcade) mess
-way too fast units, Hoplits looked like their weapons have no wight.

that faction menu looks so poor, in shogun 2 we have some pretty cool paintings on the back ground but this just looks empty ans soulless

Rome II - Total Disappointment
I'm sorry but i just don't conceive CA making a game which looks worse than Shogun 2. That's why i'm not really scared about the **** we have seen these days, i know -i hope- that if they still have the same designers who did the amazingly beautiful Shogun 2 on a payroll, all those things will be vastly improved in the final version.
I mean... just compare S2's throne room or the general portraits with what they showed today (which to be honest looks like a mediocre late 90s game)
they said they letting people play the game so it will be good to hear their opinion if they are on this forum, there was no questions about sandals so unlikely!![]()
why is it in the video they are the roman faction, yet in-game they were controlling the Egyptian army?

I absolutely agree with you.
But I think many people is refraining from complaining because they are expecting a magic mod like Europa Barbarorum solving all the weak points of the game. I am not so optimistic about the modding chances of R2TW seeing the preovious games.
And I don't think it is fair to wait until others improve for free a game for which you paid €50 to CA. Don't pay for an unpolished game, or mod it yourself if you can (not talking specifically about you).
It's a campaign, and then they jump to an historical battle. Note the units of each army are different too.
I really do not like the way battles are combined right now. It seems that if you have an enemy fleet in a sea region where you already have a fleet and on the land you have 2 armies, let us say you are besieged by an enemy, then you will be forced to play the land battle as well if you engage in the naval one. That sucks! I really hope that you will have an option to play only 1 of them.
Also, the land battles look like mess. They made an absolutely fun game, no TW feeling at all. You cannot possibly talk of tactics and strategies in a battle after seeing the battle of the Nile. Al had his troops on a hill, he had OP units like ballistas and those deployables that really wrecked havoc in the roman army and he just won really fast. It lasted no more than 5 minutes. This game fails to impress me more and more. Now I know why they will not make a demo. If people will get an actual chance to play the game they will see how bad it is and will not buy it anymore.
I am really disappointed. I really hope that the final product will not be as horrible as seen here in terms of battles. On the campaign map I still dislike the fact that there are actually very few cities - only the province ones are real deal - the regional cities being like Empire.s small resources cities but with more construction options. Many downsides concerning the game.
Again, I really hope that the final product is different. CA has a way of showing one thing but delivering something else. Hopefully this time the surprise in the final product will be a good one.
RTWRM - back to basics
I empathize with your strong sense of disappointment. However, while it looks pretty bad right now, it's still too early to judge how this game will play out in the long run. To my mind this is looking more and more like something to avoid at release but get for later.
Modders can fix some of the most glaring deficiencies, like the portraits and unit cards and address some issue with the units. We have to cross our fingers about the AI and hope CA gives us something to work with there.
Campaign map modding would be a huge bonus, both in terms of improving the map's appearance (e.g. dial down the blue Mediterranean, add some life!) and hopefully in terms of adding regions, siegeable cities. etc.
