Units run too fast!
Unit clipping is back!
Unit turn rates / speed too fast!
Battles look like a mess on land!
FIX IT!
They're cutting back features to save themselves the hassle of addressing AI problems. I do recall Shogun II having more options available.
Less options = less diplomacy. Quality does not come into it - I still get less opportunities to conduct diplomacy in my game. Is that simple enough for you to understand?
You had defensive alliance and non-aggression pacts in Shogun 2 ?
What makes you believe this menu had all the options ? In Shogun 2 there was asking a hostage or marriage that appeared only if they were available relative to the two factions negotiating.
However i agree, we won't see the exchanging province option back with this game apparently.

Give us new footage CA! You lazy bums! You are just two months or so from release!
Show me more reasons to throw my money at you after Empire !
I dont understand this new diplomacy they keep talking about. It looks exactly the same as shogun 2, just with different artistic menu's. As in all TotalWar games,it will always come down to this. We offer terms, the ai says no, we declare war.
The new diplomacy is more about feedback and new relations factors.
Egypt again! Do the other fractions even exist or are CA way behind schedule and in de nile?
I too don't understand the fuss about the "new" diplomacy, especially the "now you know what the AI thinks about you" thing. It is exactly the same as in Shogun 2.
Some nice things. CA staff did a good job presenting and answering questions, and they seemed earnest and down to earth. They just needed more time for Q&A. The naval battle looked very interesting. The Nile battle map is beautiful.
But but but...
1.) Those bowling pin animations really suck. Please, please get rid of them.
2.) The diplomacy interface and the portraits were stale and generic looking...not the end of the world but surprising for a TW about Ancient Rome? Not exactly a stale period for artistic inspiration.
3.) The campaign map...why is there no farmland in Egypt??? No sign of life in Syria outside city walls??? It all seems so sterile.
4.) The land battle was absurd. It was all comic entertainment with gimmicky weapons leaving us to wonder what a "real" battle might be like or whether there will be real battles. No idea.
So...
Mod support is going to be essential for this game. That includes map modding.
Why do w even need to know what the AI thinks about us? They'll back stab us the moment we leave one province unguarded.
Shogun 2 has me under the false sense that CA eventually learnt from many years of experience and notably the Empire's horror. I could see at rezzed that Rome 2 will be as ridiculous as Rome 1 was, and unless some serious modding is done, it will just be a soulless game.
Verdict : not preordering, waiting for christmas steam sales or the gold edition.
I'm convinced this is earlier code of the game. Has to be. There's no way they'd have all this in beta stage (in terms of all the bugs etc)
I will give more time until the end of August to see if they will show anything from the more up to date version of the game.

I'm annoyed there were no Iceni destroying both Roman and Ptolemaic forces, because lets face it, they're far superior to any other faction.
