Orcs of the Misty Mountains AAR - 25 Chapters - COMPLETED
Alright, here it is. this'll be a casual thing, I'm not going to try getting into character with the chieftan of the orcs or anything like that. There'll be some pictures, some jokes, and basically It will be to have some fun in Middle-Earth while waiting for TVS to come out. I'll be playing as the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. The following is a list of the significant Massive Overhaul Submod features I'm using:
- Tol Acharns (Jihads for Numenorians)
- Earlier Invasions
- Garrison Script (reluctantly)
- Diplomacy Script (factions being 'good' or 'evil' has more effect)
- Beacons of Gondor (lets certain factions get and send help if certain requirements are met)
Alright, let's get started
Chapter 1
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The first thing I do when I start a new campaign is build watchtowers so I can see every part of my realm. Otherwise I feel like I'm blind. Next, I switch my capital from Goblin Town to Moria.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I like it better that way
In every settlement I raise the taxes and start building farms to establish some rudimentary economy, or whatever economy orcs can manage. A brief look at our standing military forces tells me what I expected. We suck. Most of our troops are snaga, orc slaves, who are almost useless on the battlefield. Granted, their javelins can do some damage, but only if they get that close to the enemy before retreating. We will have to rely on the traditional tactic of orcs: bury the enemy under our ridiculous amount of troops. Until we can train better units, we will use goblin infantry and lots of snaga skirmishers. I gather my forces in 2 locations, near Moria and Goblin Town. A look at diplomacy says that I am at war with... oh dear, 4 different factions. The High Elves, Silvan Elves, Lorien Elves, and Dwarves. Only the High and Lorien Elves are close enough to attack me right now, but they're very dangerous. I need to build some larger armies fast, or their superior units will certainly destroy me. The Council of "Noble" Orcs give me a mission to take over the rebel village of Amon Gastal, which I was already going to do.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
it will burn!
I'll have to go through Silvan territory to get there, but I doubt they'll have any armies in the area. Meanwhile, I send my forces near Moria to take over Ost-in-Edhil. Once these 2 rebel settlements are taken I will train some more troops, merge my 2 armies and attempt to take over Lothlorien. That'll be a hard fight, but we'll come to that later. Unfortunately, the rebel village is taken by the Lorien Elves before us.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
those bastards!
Thankfully, they only have 2 depleted units there, which means we can take the village, and kill nasty elves at the same time! While our forces march to their respective rebel settlements, we build more infrastructure in the mountain towns, and set military buildings down the construction queue in Moria and Dain's Halls. Eventually, however, our forces reach the rebel settlements.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Ost-in-Edhil
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Amon Gastal
I think I'll just auto-resolve the first battle of the AAR.... not really.
Our soldiers suck, but thankfully we outnumber the enemy by a lot. Since it's a village and has no walls, I spread out my soldiers to 3 different entrances. A unit of Goblin Infantry and Lord Burz's bodyguard will charge the front entrance, a unit of goblin infantry and some filthy snaga skirmishers will attack from the back, and warg riders will charge from the right side.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
our 3 forces
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Kill them! Kill them!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Snaga throwing some javelins, pathetically at that
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
this is just how much we outnumber them
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
the nasty elf captain is killed. You can't see him because of the warg, which I assume is eating him
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Victory is ours, and the village is sacked! Instead of some silly Sindarin name, it is now called Burztown, in honor of our glorious leader!
While we celebrate victory on the eastern side of the Mountains, we prepare for another on the west. The orcs residing in Ost-in-Edhil sally out to attack us during our first turn of siege! I admit I underestimated their forces. Victory seemed in doubt, but our brave Chieftan Uglag chose to stand and fight rather than withdraw.
I lined up my goblin infantry and placed the snaga skirmishers behind, with the snaga archers right behind them. The archers proved useless, and the infantry barely worth the upkeep, but the snaga skirmishers actually proved themselves to be invaluable. While the superior enemy orcs were busy slaughtering my infantry, their javelins ripped through the enemy lines, unmolested. All it took was one rout to free up some units for a flank attack, and soon victory was in sight.
Everything was going well until...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
....
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
we take the settlement, but lose our faction leader in the process.
It's a shame, he was a good general. At least we killed the enemy general in return. Leadership now falls to an orc far away in the northern settlement. It seems decisive action must instead be taken by the new heir, Lord Burz.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
we're the 3rd worst faction in the game. Thankfully, the very worst is the Lorien Elves, our closest enemy! hooray!

Following the death of our glorious chieftan, we rename Ost-in-Edhil to Uglag, to remind the people of who their conqueror was. For now, military actions are slow, seeing as our next targets are in the forest of Lothlorien. Our scout reports that they have small standing garrisons at the moment, but both of them have the ability to gather troops while under siege.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
the fools are unaware of their impending doom.
Our forces that took Ost-in-Edhil are severely depleted, but thankfully Moria is on the way to Lord Burz. Speaking of Moria, we have begun construction of a barracks, which will allow us to recruit heavy goblin infantry, real soldiers. They can hardly match up to the Elven elite, but they are strong & numerous. Meanwhile, in the north we prepare to take over a rebel settlement to the west of Dain's Halls, and connect our lands.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
hopefully this will be an easier town to take than Ost-in-Edhil Uglag
Everything seems quiet until...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
oh ****.
I quickly begin training snaga in Goblin Town, and sending reinforments from the settlements north and south of it. However, the next turn, they simply move past Goblin Town and head further south. I realize that they are probably going to try and take Burztown for themselves! Instead of sending Lord Burz south to Moria, I keep him next to Burztown. Our scout also reports a small 2-unit army of Lorien elves are gathering as well. I look up to the north, to see how the siege is progressing and...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
ohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit
RUN!!!! I'm not sure how the Silvan Elves managed to create a full-stack army of their best units in around 15 or so turns, but the point is that if we stay there we all die. We fall back to Dain's Halls and hope that the Elves don't follow us. To the east of Dain's Halls, we see Dwarves for the first time.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
uh-oh
Annoyingly, the High Elves actually do siege Goblin Town, for some reason preferring to be on the west side rather than the north. We're probably not going to win this.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
oh dear.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I prepare my 3 snaga units to throw javelins from 3 directions.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
they let loose.
Unfortunately, for all the javelin crossfire that I muster, it does not stop the elves. Their infantry unit has 33 armor, which means they're basically invincible. Eventually, the settlement is taken.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
And that's exactly why Moria was made the capital.
Outside Moria, we surround an Elven force and attack.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
They will die!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
While our main army rushes them, our reinforcements assmble
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Elves run away from our main force, and for a second I think they're withdrawing.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Fortunately, they turn to fight, allowing us to surround and kill them.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Eventually, their captain dies, causing their infantry to rout.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
After the infantry rout, their skirmishing archers lead a wild-goose chase around the map, but eventually we get them.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Decisions, decisions...
While we may be victorious in the South, the Dwarves besiege, and assault our fortress in the north.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Come get us!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Fror shall die!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I prepare my troops on the walls and near the gate as their battering ram arrives.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Iron Guard (read: impossible to kill guys) raise the ladders.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
They break the gate and we loose our javelins.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
These guys are nigh unstoppable.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
My archers fire flaming arrows into the mass of Dwarves at the gate. Hopefully we'll be eating toasted dwarf tonight!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Some of the dwarves rout, there is hope!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Once the threat at the gate is contained, we direct our archers to fire on the Iron Guard.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Of course my faction leader dies BEFORE THE ENEMY GENERAL WHO'S BEEN SURROUNDED FOR HALF THE BATTLE.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Finally that Fror bastard dies.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The time actually runs out before the Iron Guard die...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
This victory was way more costly than I expected.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
We change the name of Dain's Halls to Fror's Grave. It's better that way.
After the successful defense of Fror's Grave, we gather our forces near Moria, and send them to take over the western settlement in the Lothlorien Forest. We also send 2 generals and a unit of goblin infantry to take back Goblin Town.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Bah, they can have Burztown, I'll take it back later.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I won't bother showing any pictures of this battle, it was quite insignificant.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
We've besieged the town! the garrison spawns but hopefull we can weaken through a prolong siege.
We siege Goblin Town and force the elven units to sally out. We believe our numbers will win the day, and the battle results in...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Ok this is getting ridiculous!
In the north, Fror's Grave meets certain doom.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
well, it's been nice knowing you guys.
We destroy all the buildings we can and disband all but one unit. Later, they take it over. Then, on the final turn of the siege of Lothlorien, the elves attack us from behind, with the garrison reinforcing.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Pshh. we're fine.
The battle takes place on the worst and most hilly map I've ever seen. My plan is to simply rush the first army and quickly turn around to face the garrison of Lothlorien.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A lucky break, the captain is killed and the first army routs almost instantly.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
this is ridiculous, they're absolutely destroying us.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
There goes our Faction Leader, Lundag and Lord Burz.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Perfect. Just great.
Our only army worth speaking of is completely destroyed and our 2 best generals are dead. Things are falling apart. We're losing settlements and we're losing generals left and right. We are now the worst faction, according to the chart.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
;-;
Our only hope is to silently train a new army in Moria, and take back what is ours. But things are looking grim.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Hopefully we can gather some forces here before we're attacked.

We've taken heavy losses. First Goblin Town, taken by a sneaky elf attack, and then Fror's Grave, which to be honest I expected. The nasty elves of Lorien will probably take Burztown. But while we hold Moria, there is still hope. While we hold Moria, we still have the power to destroy the elves!
We shall pour forth from the mountains like lava onto the forests of the elves!
We spend several turns gathering what we have left. We return the remnants of our army to Moria, and send all extra garrison troops to Moria as well. All the generals of the Misty Mountains are gathered into one place, preparing to wreak vengeance most terrible on our foes. For some reason, our relations with the Men of Dunland raise to very good. Who knows why. In the mean time, our army begins to take shape.
Burztown is taken, but it is no matter. We shall return to Lord Burz' conquest soon eough.
Fine, take it, I don't care.
We recruit a new general and replace a Snaga unit with his bodyguard. The stack is now full but we will wait a little to disband some snaga units and replace them with better ones. Unfortunately, a very sizeable elven army masses outside of Moria. We have many more troops, but as we have sorely seen many times, they suck. Thankfully, if a bit mysteriously, the elven army then marches south. Our scout is sent to keep track of them.
These bastards are scary.
Meanwhile, we send our lighter troops, in vast numbers, to retake Goblin Town. This time, we shall not fail. The Elves will die!
Can you smell that? I think it's coming from Goblin Town. It smells like fear!
Our idiot of a scout loses track of the Elven army, the fool!
As we march towards Goblin town, we keep training orcs in Moria, including now Goblin Archers. When Goblin Town is taken and we march back down to Moria, we will merge the strongest troops into one army, and keep the excess as the start of a second army. Rapid Deployment will be the key! Meanwhile, no big deal, the dark lord Sauron returns.
Hey Sauron, long time no see!
Another interesting development, the Orcs of Gundabad call for aid.
Well, 5000 gold definitely won't hurt. Why not?
Our forces finally reach Goblin Town, only to see our fools of allies, the Orcs of Gundabad, blocking our path!
Imbeciles! Nitwits! Curs!
After they don't move for 2 turns, we turn around to take over the elven forest first. My spirits are lifted by the next event message.
You know what that means!
Awwwwww yeah!
We travel a little down the mountains, and then that idiotic Gundabad army actually does move! We turn around and besiege it quickly, before they resume their idiotic location in my path.
Time to take back what's ours! they stoles it from us!
During the siege, we recieve shocking news:
The one ring is discovered in Edoras. I'm a little busy here.
The siege progresses to its last turn. My army in Moria nears completion. My forces steel themselves for a tough battle, and my generals make their battle plans. Then...
Yes Yes Yes!!! They surrendered without a fight! Die!!!
The Mountains are whole once more. Our idiot allies are back to their old tricks, so we leave 2 goblin volunteers and a snaga unit to protect it and head to an eastern exit from the mountains. Meanwhile, presumably to recover the ring, Sauron calls an invasion on Edoras.
Those damn elves... those DAMN ELVES. It's ok though, I assemble my army near Moria, and prepare to march back there and destroy them.
I never thought I'd see the day. There are no snaga units.
Surprisingly, Dunland take over Edoras at record speed, not even giving Sauron enough time to be mad at me for not joining the invasion.
Nice one, dunlanders.
Unfortunately, the time comes.
Defense of Goblin Town
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Ehhh... I don't think we can win this
infantry in front, skirmishers behind.
here we go...
The javelins do some damage to these unarmored elves, but it isn't enough.
damn. We can take it back but it's an annoying waste of time.
While we march our forces north yet again, Sauron gives us an interesting mission.
Screw that, I'm taking these guys to Beorn's Halls.
While besieging the aforementioned halls, they come from behind and attack.
It results in defeat.
Yet again, Goblin Town surrenders without a fight. This time we killed an elven general.
This time we're taking no chances. From the Outpost to the north we send 6 snaga units to defend Goblin Town. Our diplomat bribes any Silvan armies that get too close. The elves have fallen indeed if they'll accept payment from orcs. While our army marches down to Moria, the elves of Lorien try and offer us a ceasefire. I test how far they're willing to go for it. I demand Burztown in exchange, but they counter by saying they'll give me Burztown and a ceasefire for a tribute of 20000 gold for 3 turns. I can afford that, but barely. Besides, then we wouldn't have the pleasure of killing all the elves in Burztown, which was too much a price to pay. I decline.
All is quiet. Our 2 armies meet outside the gates of Moria. Our Chieftan and our Heir, leading two full armies, ready to attack. 7,000 Orcs, Wargs and Trolls stand ready to burn the Elves' precious forest to the ground.
writer's words: we've made a comeback, and the elves will soon learn! we made a ceasefire with the silvan elves as well, so they won't bother me for a little bit. Tune in next chapter for the destruction of Lothlorien, and maybe some more!

Very nice job, really injoyed to read it, the campaign itself is looking great and your perseverance is admirable, teach them now why they should have got rid of your orcs when they had the chance!!
furthermore, I like your stile, it is coherent and not very bare nor too elaborated, it keeps the atmosphere without beeing too sound.
Very good indeed, you really deserve some rep for your work!
Our armies are preparing to breach and butcher, but first we have some other matters to attend to. We send a diplomat to the High, as in stinky, Elves and ask for a ceasefire. They graciously accept, probably in the face of my mighty armies.
fear not, it is temporary. I will destroy them when the time comes.
The One Ring is located in Bree. It seems that although the Dunlanders were fast, they were not fast enough.
Get it yourself.
While it is even closer to us, we have far more important things to kill than some stupid man-town. Speaking of which, our armies are now only waiting on the Chieftan's command to march.
Our newest Chieftan, Radzag, is actually quite a capable leader. Could it be that he might last longer than a few days?
And the command comes. Our armies march side by side into the forest, fearing nothing, for they know that they are the ones to be feared. Soon, we reach the walls of the town itself, and immediately besiege.
Time for our vengeance!
We send our diplomat down south to speak to the Dunlanders, and send our scout to check for Elven reinforcements. There are tiny little units of elves gathering around our siege force, which we will deal with. More importantly, there is a quarter-strength army of Elves on the Southern side of the thick forest. No matter, we will destroy them as well.
During the siege everything is relatively quiet. Sauron calls another Invasion.
I'm busy here.
But then, on the last turn of the siege, they get even MORE garrison troops spawning in. Curses!
Writers note: they get to spawn them AGAIN??? this is ridiculous... I know it's supposed to help the AI not get steamrolled but this is just giving them the victory... especially against my **** troops.
I think that I can still win, I have 8000 troops after all, but THEN, an Elven army appears out of nowhere and attacks from behind!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHYYYY GOD DAMN IT NO
Battle Outside Cerin Amroth
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Thankfully, we don't spawn on that awful map the way we did last battle... We also start on a nice hill compared to the enemy.
maybe we can do this...
wait till they get a load of these guys!
The army is set up with the 4 halberdiers in front, 4 heavy infantry behind, and the 6 light infantry behind them. We know the biggest threat is coming from the reinforcing army behind us, so we have to rush the first army (notice how all my battles go that way? Says something) and take them out before the reinforcing army gets us. Chieftan Radzag orders the charge.
our forces are about to converge.
The fighting goes on for a while. The elves are incredibly tough, but our troops are definitely winning, with the massive numbers and hill advantage combined. We wheel around our 3 warg rider units and charge the enemy archers, specifically the general.
die!!!
We also send some archers flying with our trolls.
muahahahaha!!!
Everything seems to be going well, until the enemy reinforcements show up.
WHYYYYY NOOOO GOD DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT GAHHH
Their reinforcements entered the battlefield ridiculously close to us, while our reinforcents are... stuck at the corner of the map, with a ridiculously steep climb to get to us.
heroic trolls killing some elves
our reinforcements' mobile units, trolls and wargs, appear. Unfortunately they pathetically rout from the elven archers.
the general of the first elven army is eaten by wargs, but somehow THEIR UNITS DON'T ROUT FROM AN OUTNUMBERED, UPHILL, GENERAL-KILLED, FLANK-ATTACKED BATTLE. GAAAHHHH.
our reinforcements are still miles away...
these elven archers truly are the most evil thing I can think of.
There goes Chieftan Radzag. The answer to my question is no.
Our first army buckles and routs. I know our second army won't win, so I order the retreat.
Truly, I am appalled. How many troops do I need to take this town?
(the best part is, I autoresolved this to see what would happen, and I won, but I wanted to fight it ;-
We may be defeated yet again, but we will return. If 2 armies didn't work, then we shall train 3! if 3 doesn't work than we shall train 4! If 4 doesn't work, we'll probably give up. But it will work!
We will destroy them!
Last edited by Antonidas; June 26, 2013 at 05:26 AM.
"Writers note: they get to spawn them AGAIN??? this is ridiculous... I know it's supposed to help the AI not get steamrolled but this is just giving them the victory... especially against my **** troops" - yep, they can spam every 5 turns, but look, this is the only way to make things interesting
"We may be defeated yet again, but we will return. If 2 armies didn't work, then we shall train 3! if 3 doesn't work than we shall train 4! If 4 doesn't work, we'll probably give up. But it will work" - well said!
If I may, I want to suggest you to act differently against Elves, always keep in mind that THEY are the tough guys, not you, so you can't allow them to do what they like on the campaign map, but you must spy on them regularly to prevent bad things like a full enemy stack popping up beind you just the turn before the city is going to surrender ..
You should kill as much as possible of the small stacks (usually 2-4 units) they send around on the battlemap before they actually gather on a full stack, even up to half stack you can beat with one of your full stacks with relative ease, but if you let them gather troops, you'll always be in trouble, because on 1:1 elves will always defeat you; furthermore, you have to use numbers to surround them, so having some troops more is always a must; you can think about facing them on "same" level only when you are able to field a stack with many trolls, backed up by heavy goblin troops.
in any case, I really look forward to see the rest, I'm enjoying it !
As our army reaches Moria, there is a sense of desperation. We have infinite chances, but it seems that if we cannot win the next siege, we will be locked in this battle forever. We need to win, or else we will be stuck in these mountains and stagnate until Some Elven or Human army comes along and puts us out of our misery. We cannot allow that to happen. So, we prepare.
There will be three armies, with no snaga units to speak of. They will all lay siege to the town at once, and build siege machinery, battering rams and towers. We will have several scouts, monitoring the region around the town to make sure no Elven armies ambush us like last time. If we see one such army approaching we will assault the walls with all three armies.
But while we're training...
sigh... god damn it...
But wait, there's some reassuring news. We can call for help from the Orcs of Gundabad with the Drums of the Deep! We sound the call for help, and they accept! Yes! I'll never call them stupid again. Probably.
Thank you very much.
ehh... I'm gonna autoresolve because quite frankly, I'm afraid I'll mess up in this one too.
whoo.
For a while our recovery remains quiet. The elves are content to repeatedly push us back from their walls. But our scouts report some very discouraging complications.
There are elven armies everywhere.
For a while our generals aren't sure what the best plan of attack is. The forest is lightly defended, but if we were to take it we would open up our flanks to Attack. We could try and move North or South, but then the way to Moria is defenseless. One thing is clear, we cannot allow these Elven armies to gather together. Divided elves are weak, but concentrated they are nearly invincible. We're still at a loss when we see that all these armies are led by captains. And our diplomat knows the weakness of captains all too well... We send our diplomat up north from Minas Tirith, in hope to bribe some of the armies away.
Aside from scouts and diplomats, we bring a new agent of subterfuge and stealth into the fray - an assassin!
He looks... like a wanna-be Nazgul.
wanna-be or not, he killed an elven diplomat, so he's okay in my books.
we also assassinate Grima Wormtongue, to give him some practice. Let's hope Saruman doesn't find out.
we manage to bribe a large army, but it nearly destroys our treasury, and troop upkeep is high, so the other army will have to be taken out the old fashioned way.
We assassinate some more captains, but then the High Elves pull a sneak attack. They besiege Goblin Town, again!
Those bastards will die!
Thankfully, our allies heed the call once again.
surely 500 men cannot stand against 5000....
then again...
Battle outside Goblin Town
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I realize that the only way to win is with our numbers. However, our reinforements, while entering the battlefield relatively close to the enemy, do require some time to reach the enemy. Thus, we will have to act slowly, and hold on until the massive 2500 man army of snaga troops crushes the elves through sheer weight-to-defense stat ratio. That's not a real thing, but it should still work.
Lucky us, the elves use up time retreating to a hill which is barely significant.
Just to be sure, our soldiers climb to the same elevation and then march towards the elves. The archers open fire, so the charge begins.
Somehow I don't think those goblins stand much of a chance.
Our reinforcements (right) are nearly there.
And they do... nothing. They're just milling around there. They'll be the death of us all.
Ahh, finally. I was worried they'd just watch us die, for a second.
The elven captain dies, unfortunately not eaten by wargs.
Feast your eyes, it's a sight to behold. An Elven unit routing.
For the next few minutes, a tiny unit of 10 archers lead a frantic chase around the map. It doesn't need captions, see for yourself.
Finally.
Three guesses as to what happens to these 5 elves.
With that done, the reinforcements disappear and we're free to continue our evil plotting.
Bah, them being closer together will just make them easier to kill.
The Elves try something again, thankfully our armies are nearby. I send the main force, full of armored goblin infantry and halberdiers.
Battle of the Horrendously Snowy Mountain
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Simple, right?
Oh dear god, that blizzard. In case you can't tell, those are the elves running up to a steep hill.
My halberdiers running to the right flank, on the same hill, farther away.
Meanwhile, my swordsmen charge uphill into the elves. Nothing else to do except stand and get shot. You can also see the glorious trolls.
Our halberds will blot out the sun!!! No, wait, wrong weapon. The blizzard is already blotting it out anyway. I suspect it's Sauron calling down the mountain, he must've found out we killed Wormtongue.
Rout! Rout! Rout!
Kill the general, my trolls! Kill him!
Why won't he die!
Success!
Ehh that was more casaulties than I would've hoped, but combined with the other armies and our new esponiage tactics it should be more than enough.
I took the liberty to update the thread name. You can do so yourself by edit the OP and chose to "Go Advanced" in which case the option is presented above the edit menue
thanks for the replies! thanks for the advice flinn and sorry I had to commit the heresy of auto-resolve but I really didn't want to lose Goblin Town while knowing that I could win with just the press of a button... regardless, I promise from now on I will only auto-resolve battles that are hopelessly lopsided, either for me or against me.
Thanks for the info Ngugi, and the compliment. I'm not sure what you mean by 'proper' AAR, but it sounds good! Rest assured, this AAR will continue, updated regularly, to the end, mostly due to the fact that It's summer vacation, and I'm in Barcelona where I don't have all my 'real-life' friends distracting me.
It's a small chapter, but I think it's one you'll enjoy. I know I did...
Chapter 6
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
We move our army back down to Moria, and then it is completed. All 3 armies are now fully armed and prepped for invasion. 12,000 troops, hopefully it will be enough. On the way, our stupid assassin gets himself killed just as he was beginning to get some experience in gutting elves.
Idiot.
As our armies gather together, our astoundingly amazing Chieftan Lagrat grabs a horn, and sounds the call to march. It is begun!
They are formidable, but they cannot stop the inevitable. To the south another army approaches. The advice given by a new orc general to make use of scouts was most invaluable.
Annoyingly, our allies are attacked by High Elves near Goblin Town, dragging us into the fight with them.
ugh.
Reinforcing our Allies outside Goblin Town
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
we arrive to the east of the Elven army.
At first they march towards our ally, a single unit of wargs, up hill, but recognize us as the greater threat and turn around.
we quickly reposition, and prepare the javelins.
While our allies do... nothing. Again.
Their cavalry charges straight ahead, which is actually quite acceptable considering my troops probably can't tell the sharp end of a javelin from the other.
We try and use our superior numbers to wrap around the enemy flank, and demoralize them by surrounding them, which we do, but it just doesn't work. They're the top notch Elven warriors, and as such they are generously coated with anti-rout spray before every battle.
SQUELCH ... goes the captain.
one of their lesser units does actually rout, freeing up 2 of our units. We send them to help in the center of the line.
bad decision. The far left flank buckles and the elves there flank attack the blob at the center, causing a mass rout. At least we killed their captain seconds before.
The rest of the battle is just the elves killing everything in their path, which is typical. We do kill a lot of them, though, so if they besiege Goblin Town they won't be able to stand up to the Gundabad reinforcments.
But now, back to the main situation.
This is what we've been waiting for. A clear, unobstructed shot at killing this elf, and destroying his home. We take it.
The Siege of Cerin Amroth (finally)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Our 3 armies.
the city. *writers note*: I've never actually battled in a generic elven settlement before, I must say they're very well done.
the elves think they can stop us with... 8 spearmen and a tree. Good Luck.
You'll need it.
Pour into the city! Butcher them all!
Our allies break down the side gates.
Our troops work their way through the streets to surround a unit of Elven spearmen. Their units are quite spread out, possibly due to the 3-way attack, but this just seems foolish of them. Oh well, better for me!
“No, the trolls! Shoot the trolls!” Haha too late.
My allies enter the city in a similar fashion.
They're all in the city center, pour in and destroy them!
HALDIR, C'MERE YOU SONUVABITCH. In case you didn't notice, I send my trolls after Haldir...
… and my Halberdiers.
ha ha ha! Oh wait, that's one of our generals... Oh well, it's not Chieftan Lagrat, so I can live with it.
does anyone see the enemy? I think there's a little smidgeon... off to the left there, see?
With 2 elves left, the town center control clock hits zero. Victory is ours! Finally, we have done it.
Ufthak died in a glorious battle, completing his task and helping us achieve victory. Orcs are not sentimental, but it is known and respected that he led to deaths of many Elves.
The city is sacked and renamed Stump, which is what we will turn every tree in the forest into.
With the price of 2000 men, we took the second largest Lorien settlement. With 10,000 men left, we have ample opportunity. There is an Elven army bearing down from the west, but it can be destroyed relatively easily with the might of our armies. Once that is done, we have many targets. Limlight Fort and Burztown are easy targets, so we might secure our borders before pressing further into the forest. However, it must be recognized that Caras Galadhon is the Elves strongest settlement, and within striking distance of Stump. It is their only source of decent troops, (decent by elven standards, anyway) and should we wish to cripple their ability to fight, this would surely be the next target. We shall see, next chapter. For now we will end with our signature ending statement.
The Elves will die!

double post, some mod please delete one for the sake of the AAR
@ Antonidas, very nice chapter, I've been able to rep you again
very good victory at Cerin, the death of Haldir will prove a bad hit to those pesky elves.
Regarding Goblin Town: you are probably aware now that your original capital will be the aim of the attacks from all the elven sorrounding you, this is bad and good at the same time, bad because it will be a torn in your side (you can't choke in the area, there are too many acceses), good because you know where they will attack you and you can use this at your favour; AI always attack a settlement lightly defended with an army that they "consider" enough to take it, so if you'll leave less garrisoned troops on GT and "hide" the biggest part of your defending army south on the road to mountain fort (just keep it at a "day" march distand maximum for the town), hopefully the elves will keep attacking GT with smaller armies, that you can get rid of easily with the help of the army camping south. Also, you should have there some better troops, you can't hold them with snagas; if the issue is economic, well you can "retreat" some heavy goblins from the three armies you have on lothlorien and swap them with 2-4 units of snagas per each army* (see below for more about this); furthermore, Mountain Fort can be a target for the elves, but as long as you will keep a decent garrison there (snagas will be good enough) they shouldn't head for it but fo GT.
*one more thing: although I understand while you are not using snagas, it is better if you have 2-4 units per each army (better if they are archers, I see you don't use them at all); use them as meatshields, you can send javelin/archers in loose formation stretched out in front of your army, they will attrack most of the elven archers fire on the beginning of the battle (thus saving you significant losses for your infantry/halberdiers) and they can be sent (still in loose formation, better if snaga infantry) to engage the first line of the elves: they will not last long but enough to let you maneuvre and flank and surround the elves with your superior numbers.
I apologyze if I looked too aloof with my suggestions, don't misunderstand me, you are doing quite good with what is probably the most difficult faction in the game (particularly in MOS) and I appreciate that you don't give up, still I think my suggestions might prove useful.
The Orc commanders, not known for their brilliance, are still pondering which target to go after. In the meantime, High Chieftain Lagrat and Lord Shagdush do what they know and love: kill elves.
We move west to preemptively take out the Large Elven army.
Battle In the Western Lothlorien Forest
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Well, it's not much of a forest, but i never liked the trees anyway. Per the advice of an orc chief more strategically minded than the rest, we spread some fodder troops out in front of our main forces in loose formation, to draw Elven fire. It's decently effective, but some of my armored troops do still take casaulties.
We send our fodder and swordsmen straight down the center, while our halberdiers wrap around the left side.
The elves have few infantry, and so the melee fight divides into little pockets of resistance to our massive numbers.
*sigh*... what's the point of these numbers if half of them are always practically useless...
A unit of Galadhrim Archers is completely surrounded by half of our forces, and they seem to be doing fine.
Our High Chieftains have a habit of dying in battle, and I'd be worried about a bodyguard of 17 men left WITHOUT that curse.
Meanwhile our reinforcements wallow in their own uselessness.
Oh joy, they finally came... after most of our army is dead.
I suspect we might lose the battle until the Elven captain dies, sending his men into a rout.
Whatever else this battle was, it will prove that High Chieftain Lagrat won't die without a fight. He is turning out to be one of the greatest of our leaders.
A costly victory, which is typical. We will send the depleted army to Moria, and continue on.
Reconsider? Ludicrous!
The Chiefs of the realm decide upon a target. Limlight Fort is lightly defended, nearby, and most importantly, Celeborn, the elven leader, is inside. If we're lucky, he's the only Elven family member left, and when he dies the elves will turn into rebels. If not, he's still worth killing.
Oh you want to come in? Sure! I was just about to invite the Orcs of Gundabad reinforcements here for tea as well. I hear you guys are great friends.
Retraining in Moria goes by quickly enough, although it's not quite finished. We still have to replace the units that were destroyed completely. Our new assassin kills some elven captains and gains in skill. It is still more likely than not that he will fail, but he's getting better. Caras Galadhon at one point has a scary looking garrison, and I fear for Stump, but they split it in half the next turn.
Sauron gives us another raiding task, but this time in Ithilien. It's a decent army, so I start out by destroying a Gondorian Army led by a general.
The path to Minas Morgul will be rid of nasty humans!
The Raiding Army's First Battle
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
It's a quick battle so I'll just show you the important parts.
We line up our troops, which is annoying because the orc units are disproportionately (wow I spelled that right the first time) larger than the Haradrim and Rhun units.
Our infantry engage.
After a very long time being surrounded, their general finally dies.
A rout soon follows, and victory is ours.
Goblin Town. Bah, I don't need to fight this.
Meanwhile Limlight Fort is besieged. As far as we know Celeborn is their only family member. the 4-star commander on the right is only a general, not of royal blood.
Royal or not, he could ruin my plans!
Siege of Limlight Fort
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The elves have few units, so we spread out our forces on 5 different rams. We hope to surround and take over the castle center quickly, before the Elven reinforcements arrive.
yea, those bastards over there. We don't want them to get here.
The first wall to be broken down. 4 will soon follow.
The Warg Riders charge from behind. It's not very effective, seeing as they suck. Honestly they're only good for chasing down those pesky archers that always draw out the battles.
Our archers, proving nearly useless, are sent to delay the reinforcements. Go on, lads!
Lord Shagdush begins to suspect he won't win the battle, so he orders all units to attack Lord Celeborn, hoping to take the Elf down with him.
This causes us to take over the castle center, giving Lord Shagdush a new plan. If the archers hold out long enough, we could win entire battle!
With 2 minutes to go, our archers rout. The Elves, in a moment of pure stupidity, waste precious time chasing down these routing archers.
With no family members left, the Elves of Lorien succumb to being rebels. Burztown has no garrison, so I immediately send a general to annex it before anyone else does.
Don't even try it, buddy.
I would try and take Caras Galadhon, but there's still a garrison in there. (And I know for a fact that rebels spawn garrison troops as well.)
Farther south, our raiding army lays siege to Emyn Armen.
They'll probably be attacked, but who cares? The elves are dead!
Of course, that leaves the question, who will die next? We will need a new signature ending statement for the future, but we can use a special one today.
The Elves have died!

i got good internet long enough to upload the screenshot pics! hooray!
Chapter 8
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The destruction of the Lorien Elves not only rids us of our chief enemy, but gives us much opportunity. With our southern border secure and the additional income gained from new settlements, we will be able to turn our attention to other enemies. First thing is first, we must take the divided rebel settlements. Burztown is undefended, but Caras Galadhon has a decently sized orcish army inside. Strange how thousands of disloyal orcs managed to make the city their own so fast. Oh well, we will destroy them. Farther down south, Sauron's stupid raiding army is attacked.
We couldn't care less about those Easterlings and Southrons, nor Sauron's raid, so we wave goodbye as the Gondorians kill them.
oops.
All 3 of our armies are depleted, and one without a general, so we decide to merge them into 2. For a time, we won't have the strength our Lothlorien Invasion Force did, but eventually we will recover to full strength. This merging will be completed outside Moria, but our armies aren't quite there yet. Meanwhile, Burztown is taken by a general and his bodyguard.
Our 3 armies meet outside Moria, and we start sending the troops into the first army, led by High Chieftan Lagrat. Our second army is smaller than expected, with 7 goblin infantry, led by Lord Shagdush.
Now we shall take the east forest!
Our assassin kills a rebel captain and the High Elves have some troops lurking around Goblin Town. Again. We send a general and 2 snaga units to reinforce the garrison, but they might be too late. Soon, however, Chieftan Lagrat and Lord Shagdush's supporting army arrive at the walls of the formerly Elven city.
no garrison script has triggered, but it has deceived me by appearing late before.
what a surprise, the High Elves besiege Goblin town and our reinforcements come to save the day.
Battle Outside Goblin Town
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Since we only have 15 units, I can actually control the reinforcements from Goblin Town this time, making them not so worthless. I position my snaga stalkers and general to charge straight for the enemy, and prepare my spearmen to run up the hill and then flank the enemy on their left.
it begins.
Our reinforcemens appear right behind the enemy, thankfully.
soon our forces converge and the enemy are swamped.
typically, the elves never break and so last long enough for the Elven reinforcements to arrive.
They attack our right flank, while our left flank is, as usual, taking forever to fight the enemy as they never run. Ever.
we charge the right flank from behind, but it doesn't do much, seeing as it's snaga versus the best Elven troops to ever exist.
aaannndd our general is killed. Wonderful. Even after this the in-battle advisor seems to think victory is sure.
Our right flank breaks after a Dunedain charge, which pretty much seals the outcome of the battle.
It's hard continuing on after defeats like this. Our units break when just above half strength and the elves just...don't.
Goblin Town once again falls into Elven hands, which pretty much seals the deal for our next target. Once Lothlorien falls, Goblin Town will be taken. And then, we will make sure the High Elves never attack us like this ever again!
very nice adding, as I foresaw you have to keep fighting against elves
one more notice: with the poor morale of snagas you have to pay particular attention to the life of your general, if he dies your army will flee 100%, no matter how much edge you have on the battle, so perhaps you should spare him as much as possible in such spots
