Conquering Constantinople was always on my top 3 priorities, in any TW/Medieval strategiec game, whenever playing any faction in it's proximity. It is such a tactical jewel.

When we just knew there were some unique cities being build (Rome, Athens and Carthage named), I was quite sure Constantinople and Jerusalem would be unique also...

Still shocked to the fact cities like Syracuse, Jerusalem and Constantinople are not even on the map.

Yeah okay, I knew that and you are right, but didn't count the city, because it still isn't siegable.

I'm more of a West Europe minded player, though at some point I always aim for Jerusalem, being the holy city and all. Wonder what will make me step into the East in RTW2

I'd also prefer Byzantium, it's one of the greatest RP-cities and has a very interesting location. But i guess Nicomedia will replace and serve the purpose of Byzantion. I guess that it's because of the small string of land around marmara strait and the new growing cities with their zone of control that creates the biggest conflict here - you simply can't have two cities at each side of the marmara.

I think its more a choice of inclusion between Nicomedia and Byzantion, than Byzantion and Antheia.

Nicomedia might have been more important than Byzantion at the time.

Perhaps later in the game you can be able to upgrade Byzantium to a city, like the regional capital.

    I vote for Byzantium.
Like you, i often time conquered or play Byzantium. I usually work hard to make it the bigger and richer city of the game. ANd make it my capital.
In Rome II, i will play as Carthage (and make it the richer and the bigger city of my game), but i'm pretty disapointed to know that there won't be Byzantium.
It's the reason that i won't play Macedon or Pontus first.

Perhaps later in the game you can be able to upgrade Byzantium to a city, like the regional capital
This could be cool, but stop dreaming. This does not happen.

I don't know much about Byzantium at this point except it was Byzanton originally and founded by a petty Greek king.

During Athens' height of power Byzantium played a major role on their trade with their Black Sea colonies were valuable Scythian and Sarmatian artifacts could be obtained. And was a major defense for crossing points of armies from both Asia and Europe. Idk how you could decide against it from a historical and tactical relevance stand-point, but there is probably some game play reason for it -.- For a map as "huge" they should be able to fit it without game play issues, the zone of control for cities shouldnt go into water if that is the problem

Default Why Constantinople not included in game ?

Why Constantinople not included in game ?

I dont want to look like a guy who says "hey why dont you add my city into game" but constantinople was an ancient and important city in Roman times it was the capital of the Eastern Roman empire and its history goes back to 6700 BC later Constantinoples European side was settled by Greeks and since then its one of the most important cities in the world so why dont you include it ?

IT WAS INCLUDED IN FIRST GAME so if it was less important at that period why did CA include it in first game.If it was included beacause of its importance why didnt CA add it Rome 2 ?

For those who says it was not important at that time's please read below and check the link...

From the prehistoric period to ancient Byzantion (Byzantium)[edit]

    Main article: Byzantium
Humans have lived in the area now known as Istanbul since at least the Neolithic. The earliest known settlement dates from 6700 BC, discovered in 2008, during the construction works of the Yenikapı subway station and theMarmaray tunnel at the historic peninsula on the European side.[1][2][3] The first human settlement on the Anatolian side, the Fikirtepe mound, is from the Copper Age period, with artifacts dating from 5500 to 3500 BC.[4] In nearbyKadıköy (Chalcedon) a port settlement dating back to the Phoenicians has been discovered.
Cape Moda in Chalcedon was the first location which the Greek settlers from Megara chose to colonize in 685 BC, prior to colonizing Byzantion on the European side of the Bosphorus under the command of King Byzas in 667 BC. Byzantion was established on the site of an ancient port settlement named Lygos, founded by Thracian tribes between the 13th and 11th centuries BC, along with the neighbouring Semistra,[5] of which Plinius had mentioned in his historical accounts. Only a few walls and substructures belonging to Lygos have survived to date, near theSeraglio Point (Turkish: Sarayburnu), where the famous Topkapı Palace now stands. During the period of Byzantion, the Acropolis used to stand where the Topkapı Palace stands today.
After siding with Pescennius Niger against the victorious Septimius Severus the city was besieged by Rome and suffered extensive damage in AD 196. Byzantium was rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus and quickly regained its previous prosperity, being temporarily renamed as Augusta Antonina by the emperor, in honor of his son.

For those who asks "why did you call it constantinople rather than Istanbul" please read below.

Today its name is Istanbul I call it Istanbul too also I live in it...

But its name was constantinople/Byzantion at those times and also if I used name of Istanbul in my thread probably people will start to argue about its name rather than its place in game thats way I used its old name please dont start a Istanbul-Constantinople fight here...

6700 BC - Foundation Of Eastern Roman Empire = Byzantion.

Foundation Of Eastern Roman Empire to Counquest = Constantinople.

    After that its Istanbul.

Names can change but cities remain dont argue about its name argue about its existence in game...

Yeah, I was a bit surprised it isn't in the game, but I can also understand.

-Before Roman rule, it wasn't anything "big"
-The position is too good. You seriously have access to everything from there

LOL. I understand if you call it Konstantinopolis or Kostantiniyye but Carigrad? Who cares Slavs' opinion about this?

I think Byzantium should be siegable.

Who cares about your opinion ? Many Slavs serve in ERE. Almost all eastern europe and Russia use this name.

I think CA even don't know what cities were important back then. Corinthos, Thebes, Tarentum, Crotona, Syracuse, Capua, Agrigento, where is all this cities now ?

    At least there is Naissus.

Because the scale of the map does not allow it. More cities and less shiny camapign map (with bird flying, cities expanding) would have been a good trade but CA does not share this vision.

I am so eager to recreate the 1st Punic War to wage war between two miserable settlements for years (turns).
