The problem of sieges can be solved variety of ways.
Most of the cities just for the background. You can capture them without sieges and without immersion in the battle.
Capturing the middle city, you can control the small town.
If you have a large army, you can Capturing a large city you can demand capitulation, the entire province.
Need to think about it, not just remove all the cities on the map, it does not work, it's trash.
Actually, if they could make cities like you describe, as simple background pieces - that wouldn't be too bad. Having hundreds of cities to lay siege to would be tedious, but you're idea here sounds pretty good. You could have all the cities without having to lay siege to all of them. Sort of similar to Empire where you can have battles on the outskirts of a town, in these little villages with their plazas and narrow streets, if you want to. But the option should be there to avoid the minor town battles too, and have your armies face off in the field.

I'm not sure why did CA remove the resource-towns (or did they?). Maybe there's not enough room left on the map from the giant cities.

They turned the resource towns into smaller regions to increase the amount of conquerable regions not sure how this will work out but it creates a obvious dilemma, if all those regions then have a siege map you will have a lot of sieges, solution no siege maps for the smaller regions.

I cannot even find out if you need to at least besiege these smaller regions on the campaign map.

If I recall correctly in the resource towns in NTW --> FOTS you can put an army in there. So I'm assuming that it's the same it's just that when the battle starts you fight "outside" the city. In any case it's the same, just that the resources towns are actual cities now which they should be. This is just another evolution of what CA did with ETW. IMO if you look at it ETW was the game where CA tried everything with it and while the game had its flaws, they were able to improve those new features over time.

If I recall correctly in ETW it even said that you owned the resource so I understand what your saying but to downgrade Jerusalem to a resource and perhaps allow it to be assaulted on the same turn you laid siege to it on the campaign map would be a bit odd, I would expect at least to be forced to wait one turn before an assault to create some illusion that your attacking a major city.

We will just have to wait for a CA competitor to make something as detailed as this. As technology advances that might become a reality.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
its disturbing to see how loosely and much the word DLC is used around here, even with things that should be in the game IF they where made.

and stop demanding so much stuff, as some other people in other threads said "CA is not gona listen to us if we demand so much" and we will sound like spoiled crybaby's

Their answer would be like :

according to our tests and what steam statistic tell us , the majority of player doesn't like to spend too much time in sieges or pressing autoresolve the sieges so we decided to remove most of them , and according to what steam stats and our inquiries , the players do not want more cities, actually they want less cities with better graphics and cool things to see ...

Yea like that is going to happen. The gaming community society has become so self-entitled, and narcissistic that any idea they come up with is, they believe, the greatest ever and has never been thought of before. Realistic expectations, moderation, and common sense are non-existent.

Yes, let's demand that CA scrapes the entire mechanics of the campaign map and develop something entirely new, only a little more than 2 months before the release date. This idea is perfectly realistic.

I was just being a bit facetious. I wish it would happen even though I'm probably sure you're right.....Sad but true.

This explains how stupid CA's idea is of 1tpy, crossing Italy, 3 turns( 3 years gone by in a flash) get to the other side and a general dies.

It should be 4 tpy and armies travel 1/4 less.

1200 turn campaign would be a drag, but it's probably moddable so you'll get it any way.
