Default Shogun 2 crashes after a custom battle

sorry if this has already been covered - i did have a look but didn't see anything which exactly matched my issue

When I end a custom battle Shogun 2 stops responding during the loading screen. If I exit from the campaign map it's fine - its only on exiting from battles. I've only tried custom battles so far but I suspect it'll happen in campaign battles.

If I get Steam to verify the cache it starts updating but as soon as its done it starts doing more updating as if there's another patch to apply once its finished verifying the cache. If I then tell it to verify the cache again it goes through the above process again (does the verify then seems to download another patch)

haven't really played Shogun2 much recently but it seems to be happening since the last patch.

On a slightly different note is it possible to limit armies to 20 units? I see I can have 40 units but anything over 20v20 makes my machine lag so I'd like to limit armies to 20 units

There is an option before battle either to control large army (more than 20) and not. I have never tried the NOT option so I'm not sure if you choose that the reinforcement will come piecemeal or it will come whole but control by the AI. Either way do not get your 3 stacks close together if you don't want 40 units battle. Use agents to disable movement for second AI stacks (if there are 2 or more) so that you only have to fight 1 stack.
