Trouble loading directx 9

Rome: Total War was working fine last week, but then I took out and put back in my RAM and now I get a "failed to find directx 9" message when I try to play. I already tried uninstalling and re-installing direct x and everything. Any help? Google has been hopeless

From what I've read windows XP has no UAC. So, I guess I just got screwed out of the game.

You didn't say which Windows version so took a chance. Install the link and see what happens. The only other way is reinstalling the game.
