Another Crashing thread.. Shogun 2 and Fots

Okay, so for over 6 months I have on and off attempted to fix this game. Nothing is working and after giving up and waiting for a full year to pass I was praying for a solution or a update. I come back and I still see fresh new posts on multiple forums about this Splash Screen crash and I couldn't believe it. After a Year of this bull, I'm still stuck waiting for a fix. I can't believe this massive issue has not be fixed by CA. This is completely unacceptable.

Two weeks ago I bought Fall of the Samurai for $8 on sale. I figured Hey, it's a standalone "DLC". It must run differently and have a fix built in. But, I download it, launch it and I see that dreadful splash screen and low and behold it crashes. The same error I've seen for over a year on Shogun 2.

I always check what the problem is and it always says "APPCRASH" and it's always AWESOMNIUM or what ever it's called. It's the same for both Fall of the Samurai and for Shogun 2. I have literally tried every single thing in the book to attempt to fix this. I have formatted my computer. I have deleted each individual file and verified and it got me no where. I have deleted my appdata folder and still nothing.

I don't even bother with the Total war support forums, they tell you the same copy pasted answers I have gotten to many times.

If anyone please has a solution to this please share it as I haven't been able to play FOTS and yet I was able to play Shogun 2 the first four months it was out now I can't.

As a side note. Can someone post screen shots of their Shogun 2 folder contents so I can compare mine.

A good start would be a copy of your dxdiag posted here.

If you are using Google Chrome, uninstall it and try another browser. I am using Firefox.

If you are using the free version of AVG, uninstall it. Microsoft Security Essentials works for me.

Have you checked your modified.txt?

Did you delete both shogun2 folders and do a fresh install.

FYI, I have Fall of the Samurai someplace on my harddrive both I have not bought it to activate it. So has everyone that has purchased and downloaded the game.

90% of the splash screen BS started in Dec., 2011.

I didn't use Chrome when it started. I uninstalled it as a attempt to fix about two weeks ago and it didn't work so I formatted my computer and used firefox and didnt work.

I don't use anti virus as I believe virus are a thing of the past but I installed Microsofts anti virus and did a scan just to see and got nothing.

Have you checked your modified.txt? - Yes I deleted it and verfied and nothing.

Did you delete both shogun2 folders and do a fresh install. ---- I even went to the extent for format my drives and nothing.

Formatting the harddrive, did you reinstall the motherboard drivers?

Have you reactivated your copy of Win 7 and run Windows Update manually install all software options?

Are you using a router?

Yes my motherboard drivers are fully flashed to date. Yes I installed all software after reactivation.

Yes, all my router ports are forwarded and open for Shogun 2 and steam.

Post a pic of your shogun2\data folder. I want to match it against mine. After CA supposedly put all the individual update patches in one big patch, it's worked for some and a nightmare for others.

Okay, here you go I made a album. I didn't add the benchmark folder as it is most likely irrelevant and interest of time.

Lol, you and me think alike. See I actually did this today. I figured I could run that MOD and get past it. But after downloading and launching via DM. It didn't launch past the Splash screen.

Thanks man you're really helping me out. But, at this point I need CA advice. Or you know a proper fix that should have their game running. Like I really don't understand why this is happening I have never seen a game not run before because of poorly written code.

IF it started before you installed Darth, it's not the game.
IF it did not start before Darth, then we both need CA and they aren't talking, unfortunately.

Your data folder matches mine except the DarthMod pack.

The only things Ihave seen do this in these forums have been:
antivirus blocking it,
firewall blocking it,
router blocking it,
Chrome on more occasions than not,
the redist files never installed by being blocked by Windows' UAC BS,
Windows not updated,
Realtek audio drivers not up to date,
graphics drivers, old and new,
motherboard chipset drivers,
wrong version of Flash,
toolbars,
plugins in general.

I play a total of 46 hours. I stopped playing for a few months. I reinstalled it and then this started happening and its been more than a year now of this crap.

I'd really at least like to know what is causing it at least even if it's unfixable so I have some closure lol.

Have you deleted both shogun2 folders before reinstalling?
Have you used regedit to remove all traces of shogun2 from the registry before reinstalling? A good free registry cleaner may do the job.

Mine works and always has and I have the files you minus Darth.
I also have the UAC disabled, took ownership of C: drive, and installed Steam outside C:\Program Files (x86) if this may make a difference.

I also only use Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall, and Firefox. I also have Malwarebytes for backup.
