Default Historical layout of Cities in medieval times

I have played medieval 2 total war and when I assault enemy towns in the campaign I find out they are all generic and follow a rectangular plan. This wasn't what cities look like back as they developed according the landscape and population. I think we should rework the siege maps so that they would be unique for each city according to what they looked liked during the medival peroids to at least what we can get from maps

You know it is possible to make custom towns? The only problem is it takes A LOT of work and A LOT of learning.

This would be an excellent project. I know the Dominion of the Sword team was interested in doing something like this. We would need somebody (or several people) who know how to use the tools to make custom settlements.

I'm totally not the right man to say this for sure, but I don't think it is possible to have each city on the map an unique due to the limits on engine. As far as I know, each culture in kingdoms can have an own generic styled city for each settlement level, such as large_town and huge_city. When the max amount of cultures is 7 and there are 14 settlement levels (7 for cities and 7 for castles) you can have 98 unique towns on the map. You can get close to what you want but you should get rid of some useless cities. Also you would loose the ability to upgrade towns.
