    Default Tips for Getai campaign.

I'm struggling to get started with Getai, except on easy/easy difficulty levels. This is fine, only I worry that one I get a solid foothold the game will be too easy.

Any advice from more experienced EB players would be appreciated.

I'm using the Mega Mod Pack so I do have some advantages, such as increased movement and, if desperate, force diplomacy. I'm also playing through Alexander if that makes any difference.

Use the search tool to find an identical thread that has been here before some months.

Apart from that, just take the rebel cities 1 by 1, avoid having borders with Makedonia and Sauromatae, as long as you can. Build mines. Singidunum has very strong rebels, avoid it. Use frequently slingers and general bodyguards.

Another tip to add, Getai are the deadliest religious fanatics in this time period, and it's all thanks to some pre-Christ guy called Zalmoxis. Drapanai, the unarmored swordsmen, have ridiculously high morale and stamina as well as a powerful charge and attack; they're also cost effective. Komatai, skirmishers, are cheap, come in large numbers and should be used for hit-and-run and drawing arrow fire away from your Drapanai. Both should form the backbone of your early armies. getai long-range infantry are not very reliable in terms of damage so it's best to conserve their ammo for unshielded units and particular angles.

Later on I suggest an army with falxmen, lancers, horsearchers, native phalanxes and elite archers.

Hello Glaive, I love the Getai for their access to a variety of good infantry and skirmisher units. They are masters of guerrilla warfare. Dacian, Thracian, Celtic, Scythian, Hellenic, and Germanic units are all recruitable within their area of influence. That makes for a large diversity and some getting use to if you don't know the strengths and weaknesses of each unit. The Dacian units are pretty good but they aren't so good against heavier opponents head on. Their cavalry is also lacking in real heavy cavalry. They have lancers but not ones I would trust to go toe to toe with Companions or heavier. Once the Sauromatae progress and begin harassing you, their archers, horse archers and heavy cavalry will be hard to counter. The Getai will though, have access to archers and horse archers capable of fighting against the Sauromatae.

Below are some of the choices you have in gaining access to good allied units to add to your roster.
Build up your Type 1 govts, population and barracks in Buridava and Sarmiszegethusa and you can train Kristai, which are verstaile medium cavalry that shoot arrows and can give a good charge.
Take Kallatis and build up its port and population. It's your only port and source of boats. If you build up a Type 3 or 4 govt, you will be able to train Thureopherontes Toxotai - which are versatile, highy trained hellenic archers. You also get access to Scythian Horse Archers - cheaper than Dacian Horse Archers and Hoplitai.
Take Naissos, Serdike and Tylis and build a Type 3 or 4 govts and build up its barracks and population. You will be able to train Taxeis Triballoi - Good all around infantry. Or you can build Type 1 or 2 govts and train Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi - Heavy, armored falxmen, Thraikioi Prodromoi - Excellent, cost effective medium cavalry, and Thraikioi Peltastai - Excellent heavy skirmishers. You train both kinds of units Celto-Thracian and Dacio-Thracian if you build up Type 1 or 2 govts and barracks first, demolish the govt, and then build up Type 3 or 4 govts and barracks to gain the Taxeis Triballoi and Thraikioi Hippeis - which is really good light cavalry.
Take Singidunum and build a Type 3 or 4 gov and build up its barracks and population. You will be able to train Cordinau Orca - Expensive but excellent heavy infantry and Uirodusios - Cheap naked spearmen that frighten enemies.
Take Carrodunum and build a Type 3 or 4 gov and build up its barracks and population. You will be able to train Kludda Lugiae - High damage two-handed swordsmen.
If you take Veldideno and build a Type 3 or 4 gov and build up its barracks and population you will be
able to train Teskatos - Good axemen with AP javelins

Since I don't like to wait forever for my population to grow, you can raid Greece and enslave them, but leave the cities until you are ready to hold them. The Successors will not take kindly to being attacked by you, but lure them up north where you can slaughter them in the forested hills of Dacia. You could also do that as you go north or west. I also like to hire levy mercenary types and disband them in cities that need population.
Swords don't kill people, people with swords kill people.
