1) Start game as Athens
2) Declare war on all those other greekers who think they should be independent; conquer greece.
3) set my sights east, declare war on carthage.
4) loose entire army in a naval ambush near the coast of africa
5) get attacked by every nation with an army near me; rage quit the campaign.
That's how I;ve always dreamed of it, anyways.
odi et amo quare id faciam fortasse requiris / nescio sed fieri sentio et excrucior
When Hiero returned to besiege their base (Messana) in 265 BC the Mamertines called for help from a nearby fleet from Carthage, which occupied the harbor of Messana. Seeing this, the Syracuse forces retired, not wishing to confront Carthaginian forces. Uncomfortable under the Cathaginian "protection," the Mamertines now appealed to Rome to be allowed into the protection of the Roman people. At first, the Romans did not wish to come to the aid of soldiers who had unjustly stolen a city from its rightful possessors. However, unwilling to see Carthaginian power spread further over Sicily and get too close to Italy, Rome responded by entering into an alliance with the Mamertines. In response, Syracuse allied itself with Carthage, imploring their protection. With Rome and Carthage brought into conflict, the Syracuse/Mamertine conflict escalated into the First Punic War.
How can I not follow in the footsteps of the greats... Mithridates will plan out my first part of my Pontus campaign .... Every time I play Pontus I do something of this spectrum
Control Black Sea.... they have it nicely mapped out too, the Green... that will be my 2nd step.... get to the Caspian... I then hope to secure the Caspian and use it to control the eastern regions... I dont plan on going much into the Steppe... useless lands... after I secure the Black and Caspian Sea... its on to Babylon to gain access to the Indian Sea... Then I will be able to hold my ports safely at Byzantium whilst having full access to the Atlantic/Med/Baltic... with Baghdad I will be able to access India, Arabia, and even Egypt if I want... HOWEVER... the downside is I am virtually surrounded at this point... BUT I always let the Aegean, the Black and the Caspian Sea form sort of natural barriers... This is Ancient times! Navy is everything!.
Nice plans guys, keep em coming.
I had another idea last night. Playing as Athens, I am going to conquer every greek colonie from before alexander. But in stead of just conquering them, I will vassalize them to form a new Athenian League of sorts.
I then intend to go for one of the new victory types, either economic through trade or cultural.
The Plan
Step 1: Take single region minors in direct vicinity like Sparta, Crete and Rhodes and establish naval dominance.
Step 2: Continue expanding by taking Cyrene, Cypres and Syracuse (Who will hopefully still be minors at this point)

Step 3: Launch Assault on Anatolia and subdue Cilicia and Pergamon.
Step 4: Invade Northern Greece and vassalize Epirus and Macedon.

Step 5: Conquer northern part of Anatolia, Take Bosphorus and establish dominance over the Black Sea area.

Step 6: Expand existing colonies of Cyrene and Epirus. Move further west and conquer Magna Graecia, Corsica and Massalia.

The end result will then hopefully look something like this:

I will have to take some provinces for my self to be able to afford the fleet to support a League of this size.
This plan will ofcourse only work if a. vassals are actually usefull b. you can trade provinces and c. an economic or cultural victory is even possible with so few home provinces.
Never the less, I will definately try to do something like this ones the game is out.

As the Iceni:
-Unite Britain
-Rule the seas
-Conquer a decent trade hub on the Mediteranean ( Coastal zone or island) and get decent trade agreements.
-Become budds with Egypt, send them a nice, big "mercenary " army a la Galatian style, sail it down the Nile, colonising Aethiopia, afterwards Arabia, and well...spread blue naked tattoo people across the east.
Epirus :
-Conquer Greece
-Conquer northwards till Singidunum
-Get at least one army to defend the homeland
-Pull an Alexander.
just hope that AI will be good enough so i can not make use of my plans acoringly ..

Cool thread!
Poster above me; you are expecting difficulty in arabia magna!? haha
I'll play yhe first game as Athens; first priority would be Sparta's death, and then the islands Crete, Rhodus, and firstly Asia Minor (wonder what all the bonussus from the Mussauleum and Temple of Diana will be)
I will play as Pontus first.
In the first few years I will try to form a big greek alliance which I will support to keep them as a fortress against rome while I expand to the east and south.
The first provinces that will join Pontus are on Asia Minor and in the east (like Trapezos). Depending on how the relationship to the Seleucids are I will either have let them be my allies and then better take the area of the black sea otherwise I will concentrate fighting the Seleucids.
Most of my tactic with Pontus is based on diplomacy (very important for me is the greek alliance). If my greece allies get to much problems with the Romans I would send one army to greece as support for them cause I want greek to stand against rome.
Also I hope I get a good trade income with allies in greek and also egypt.
I will retake all the Greece, conquer Anatolia,Minor Asia ,Sinai and march into Babylonia as the ancestors of Macedonia did.
All on VH/VH or LEG/LEG.
