Oh yeah I agree and I'm not going to be taking the Iberian peninsula lightly either (I will be sending the best of my legions down there) just in case the Iberians are more than my lesser legions can handle

I agree though I have no doubt there will be internal conflicts kicking off and possibly invasions at my front door all the while I'm pushing into Iberia and I wouldn't want it any other way

But for me advancing west into Iberian territory will require I send atleast 5 Legions (going off of my theory 1 province = 1 more legion/army you can raise and thus I'd have 10 provinces at Step 4) and seeing as 5 legions will be defending my current territories I can send them to preform a 5 pronged attack into Iberian territory.

Now the 1 thing im excited about is what I'm going to encounter down there From what I've skimmed over online it seems there were many tribes and they were very sneaky and liked to ambush foreign invaders (i believe Hannibal had this happen to him near the province provincia when he was headed for Rome) and the terrain

has me just as curious to see if my drilled professional Roman units will be able to deploy their battle tactics.

I understand what you mean but I'm not going anymore north than Provincia and Cisalpina. I will be setting up major defenses as best I can while campaigning in Iberia and afterwards will devote all my resources to ensure no barbarians will reach my new lands depending on terrain.

I will probably never go into northern europe until I conquer more southern provinces but you can count on my defenses being top notch to make sure no one comes knocking.

To me it will be great when I finally am ready to take on the barbarian hordes and they are 1 huge super power of hundreds of thousands of angry barbarians united for 1 cause: ROMAN BLOOD

I really wanna see how Roman cohorts stay in formation and steamroll the barbarian hordes and also wanna see ruthless ambushes by the barbarians on my un-suspecting legions !!

~~FOR THE GLORY OF ROME !~~

Hahaha Have no doubts that **** will kick off when you set foot in Iberia. I have a dodgy feeling about that place...
There definitely was a whole bunch of dudes donwb there. Isn't it them lot in Iberia who have the 'Falcutta' I think it is? :O
That's the thing though, you just know you'll be running into ambushes, especially since spies can't see the hiding enemy army all of the time.

I'd think about sending two armies, the disposable one first (no Roman army is truly disposable ) and then the high quality one right behind so it don't get ambushed.
One tactic I WILL be doing is this; send over a ship and general to the Greek peninsula, quickly get on there, recruit a few hoplite mercenaries and leg it back to Italy. No we got some good quality hoplites. Barbarians would be like food for a Hoplite shield wall

The best I can see myself doing though, is launching raiding parties against the Germanic people. Loot, destroy and massacre. Sure, I'd capture the territory etc. but I'd leave it since it would be too risky maintaining. Just keep launching raiding parties until the area is worn-down. Make a few alliances with a key tribe/s, definitely not the Suebi lol

I just cannot see myself expanding 'officially' into Germania. How did the Romans do it? :O
But you know, Raikou, I've got to hand it to CA...they have made the barbarians something to be feared

I agree man and I'm really hoping musicians play a REALLY big role in armies, listen to this first link of the carnyx used by barbarians and don't tell me it isn't like being on that battlefield ! also the 2nd link explains how the carnyx had so many variations and used by people from Scotland, France, southern Scandinavia , Britain , Hungary to name a few

    The Carnyx Sound

    Interesting Info on the Carnyx
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2hE8Se9u6Y

I'm sure there's many many more places it was used (Iberia im sure) and they said it had as many variations as a lute is to a guitar so if CA can pull off such sounds for Barbarians and equal as much for all the other cultures I will take my hat off to them on that for sure

    1 - play as Athens

2 - arrange alliance with the Romans

    3 - build a fleet

4 - conquer Crete and Rhodos

5 - crush Sparta/conquer the Peloponnese (god knows how I'll manage this) then war with Epirus for the final part of southern Greece

6 - make peace with Epirus (hopefully with the acquisition of Achaea/Thessaly)

7 - finally rebel against Macedon and free the city, then prepare to war with the Egyptians for control of the Eastern Mediterranean

8 - naval warfare; conquer Cyprus and ally with the Seleucids

9 - make peace with the Ptolemies, prepare for the re-invasion of Sicily

10 - invade and conquer Syracuse, oust Carthage from the island and prepare for a massive naval war

11 - hopefully I will have conquered Sicily and crushed Carthage's fleet, allowing Athens to conquer the Balearics and Corsica/Sardinia. That way my goal of an Athenian dominated Mediterranean is complete.

12 - possibly launch a major naval invasion of Ireland (eyo).

^Mind you, this will take a lot of luck and some effort to see into fruition. The Athenian Longwalls will help a LOT in keeping the barbarians beyond the gates, while the fleet does all the heavy work.

If successful my empire should look something like this:

I have a feeling, that with the way the Spartans are going to be, they may be your main priority...

Probably il start with parthia, Ive never played with an eastern faction in any total war game
First step id like to begin defensive and slowly conquest few lands through diplomacy or agents.
Second step making money to buy some armies at turn 50-100.
Third step conquer india and move south-west towards egypt.
Fourth step make alliance with pountus and moving into africa
Fifth step attack carthage at turn 250-300: game over

Step 1 - Wait until the game is released.

Step 2 - Decide if its worth getting

    No step 3.

I think I will start with the Suebi,

    1) Unite all Germanic tribes

    2) destroy the roman faction, liberate all of their regions and hold rome as a vassal

    3) possibly expand my empire here and there

    4) no clue

Playing as the Arverni I'll first unite gaul, strengthen my border with rome and germania, and make an alliance with the Iceni. I'll take over the Iberian Peninsula, and proceed to take over Germania. If the Iceni break their alliance, I'll conquer the British isles too. Once all the barbarian factions are united under my banner, I'll take on Rome and make sure they never live to become unbeatable.

    Nice Thread

Well, normally i would start with Carthage, Egypt or one of the greek factions. Since i want the politics or rome, i will start with one of the families and first unite Italy, then the go to the north, over the alps and make a unified Europe by conquering Gauls, Celts, Germania and Illyria.

I'm planning to play as the Iceni. I'll accomplish the impossible and conquer Hibernia and Caledonia or simply take them under my wing as vassals. Then I'll align myself with some tribes on the mainland and attempt to grab some territory from their enemies to build a strong network of defenses against the inevitable Roman invasion.

Ha! Butt she's ploughed like a field and pregnant.

You would never have a private life after it, ever. Worse than having dinner with Clooney.
