Icon1 The campaign : why so short ?

In consideration of advancements in graphics campaign and the influence of the seasons on the battles and the economy in the previous total war,
Why CA make only 1 turn per year ? Endless summer ?
But we have generals riding ponies on campaign map! WTF !

Something about gameplay reasons and game would be too long if there were more turns. Something like that. Modders will change this so dont worry. Not a big deal.

Too Long? I never stopped playing in any TW game, when the actual time for campaign was over. I always kept on playing.

One turn per year over how many years? Like three hundred. That's three hundred turns. That's more than most others.

And we don't know how they're working the seasons, probably a different season every turn.
I wouldn't mind summer every turn, it's the campaigning season after all.

People always count the turns and make comparisons. Such a bad mistake! You need to consider in terms of history years, because it is a game based on history! You had 200 turns for 100 years in ETW and you have only 300 turns for 300 years for TWR2. That means you actually have 1/4 gameplay time in this game than the other games! If they actually put work and balanced the game to cover the time period while still having the possibility to enjoy seasonal transition through turns like in R2 or TWS2 the game would have been different.
And before telling me that would be boring let me tell how interesting it would be if they would implement manpower, supply systems and better diplomacy for the campaign game and improving the complexity cities development. They just simplify everything to attract new players but they do not think that the games that made them great gave the opportunity to build 20 different buildings inside a city while now I saw 6 is the max you could get! How interesting and what great impact would have for the campaign game the fact if after a long war you would need peace to be able to rebuild destroyed or sacked cities, to replenish supply stores and manage internal policies towards population growth to replenish your manpower to be able to have new recruits and things like that. The fact is that CA keeps saying that they want to give you the feel of Empire managing and how long it took to make one but in truth after you learn to exploit the AI there is no other proper game mechanic to slow you down. They made Realm Divide in Shogun 2 but that was an artificial mechanic and as long as I am concerned was a very stupid thing to be at suddenly at war with all the rest of the factions on the map even if some were in the opposite corner of it and they never posed any threat to me or them or how even the small factions would suddenly be able to recruit a full army and send it to fight you!

Perhaps the horse is signifying forced march? Jack Lusted mentioned in this forum that seasons would still be implemented, however it is yet revealed on how it would be implemented.

300 turns is not "short", plus the game has no actual turn limit, it's just a general timeframe within which most people are likely to complete their factions objectives. You could, potentially play well into the Empire period of you so wished.

Indeed, a mod which changed the campaign objectives and added a few Late Empire units probably wouldn't be too much work even if the game is as difficult to mod as Empire: Total War and then you'd have a game which stretched from the earliest days of the Roman Republic to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. I put it to you that this would be Epic, one turn per year or no.

TL: DR don't worry about the length of the campaign.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.

From Jack posts on this forum , its due it would be boring and that we never had no one playing more than 250 turns on a TW campaign before.

Give me a campaign with 1200 (4 turns/seasons per year) turns option and i will do it easily ,but logically i wont need them to end the objectives of the campaigns.

Yeah I don't think I would play more than 300 rounds but why do we need to reach 0 AD and beyond in the first place. We change history from the first time we click the "end turn" button. I would prefer sometnig other than 1-turn per year

A 300 hundred year campaign would still be longer than every TW game made after the first Rome.
Aelfwine, then, spoke out and valiantly declared: 'Let us call to mind those declarations we often uttered over mead, when from our seat we heroes in hall would put up pledges about tough fighting; now it can be proved who is brave. I am willing to make my lineage known to all, that I was from a substantial family in Mercia. My grandfather was called Ealhelm, a wise nobleman blessed with worldly wealth. The thanes among that people shall not reproach me for my wanting to get out of this army, to make my way home, now that my lord leader is lying hacked down in battle. To me that is the greatest grief: he was both my kinsman and my lord." Then he moved forward and turned his attention to revenge, so that with his spear he struck a seaman among the army so that he lay dead among the ground, destroyed by his weapon. Then he exhorted his comrades, his friends and companions, that they should advance.

I do agree that it is more fun to see different seasons like in Shogun 2 but but compare it with empire: 100 years 2turns =200 turns Rome 300years= 300turns. Seems fine imo, no need for endless campaigns

300 years, you can still continue to play and achieve victory after those turns. Seasons will still be in the game.

How many times has there been threads on this topic? At least 10 times in the last month. You need to search the forum and see if anyone has answered this before you create a new thread. Jack Lusted has answered this X number of times. And everytime people seem to ignore the answer. So I'll make it short for you.

1 turn per year doesn't make it a short campaign. The campaign game is designed to last around 300 turns. But who plays that long without conqouering everything anyway? If you play up to 300 turns and still don't control the map, you can still keep playing. As CA has said there is no point where the campaign will stop this time around. You can play up too 1000 turns if you want to.

PS: And yes seasons will be in the game.

Since when is 300 turns short?

It's not really the number of turns that's the problem, it's the way characters/generals will age super rapidly that's rather bothersome.
