    Icon3 Elementary German I

'Tis summer vacation and thus I would have some extra time to teach an introductory course for basic German, starting from the very beginning. It would be a rather intensive course, since I would cover much material in just a very short amount of time. My ultimate goal would be to teach you how to teach yourself, so that you could easily go on without me after the completion of the course. Having Skype drill sections would also be something I would want to do (though it would be hard to get everyone on at the same time). If demand is high enough, I would even strongly consider doing a follow-up course.

As I said, this would be an intensive course, taught college-style (including a syllabus), meaning you would have to do a lot of work. But unlike college courses, this one is completely free.

Just to let you guys know, I am a native German speaker, who also has a B.A. in German. This is not the first time I have tried to teach German (though I have never been able to successfully teach my American wife ).

Respond quickly if you want this, since I would not want to start this course later than mid-July, because in late September, school starts again for me.

I could join, mostly because I want to learn how to use the germanic cases properly.
Also german is not that hard for me to understand the most common sentences in.

German words sound kind of like Chinese food: same ingredients(words) arranged differently.(Calques of foreign words) But that is only what a newbie would claim, it surely has a great vocabulary.

Sure, music can be a great way to learn casual language, though I wouldn't call Rammstein's lyrics casual.

I know a bit of German but I am so keen on taking steps towards becoming fluent - I am already signed up for tutoring next year at uni.

Ah man I would love to do this but I just cannot commit to any study due to work and sport commitments.

    Hope it goes well.

I won't actually write a syllabus until I know that I have enough people interested, since writing a syllabus is a lot of work, and I don't want it to go to waste.

Chicken and egg problem indeed. If you do plana syllabus I might copy some of it for a Spanish course. Might.

But as for now, let us say that you can count me in.
