Its not very often i leave the silent shadows in this forum, and creates a new post, but I have something heavy at heart and I'd like to let it go.
For all the TW games I remember, CA haven't been shy of letting out expansions and now DLC, and that is good! I'm a personal fan of such addons as they give the developers the ability to expand their games post launch, and as nobody is forced to buy anything but the core games, so I can't see why this should offend anyone. Now, I just got a single plea for CA to to change their expansions and addons. All expansions has always been based on new campaigns, being new games, while still being the same as the core title. Now CA, you have created something spectacular and epic with the main campaign in Rome 2, I have no doubt of that, and this i why I plea you, to focus on increasing THAT, the main campaign in the game instead of adding mini campaigns.
In Napoleon and Shogun 2, the mini campaigns worked well enough, Napoleon was a very small game, in terms of timeframe and the fact it was storydriven by a single character, thus justifiyng the mini campaigns. Shogun 2, was pretty much one massive mini campaign as it was very small geographically, thus the expansions didn't feel as small as they were the same size as the original.
However Rome 2 is entirely different, its about massive scale all the way around, huge armies, vast lands and great empires. So instead of creation a mini campaign for, let's say Alexander, which I believe a lot of people would like to see realised, incorporate that mini campaign into the original grand campaign of Rome 2. Give macedon, an alternative starting time, put Alexander in as the faction leader, and extend the campaign to east if you see fit. In that way, nobody is bound to go only east, as they would in a mini campaign, where western europe wouldn't exsist. It also would benefit all the other factions in the campaign, as the new added landmasses will be conqureable b the romans, egyptians or even the iceni, and so on.
Another example, Barbarian Invasion (Oh god, I have no imagination of new content) instead of creating a whole new Europe map, just expand the time settings, and turn numbers of the original Rome 2 grand campaign. Give the romans the ability to "realm divide" should the player **** up enough, extend the building and technolgy trees, and there you got it; An even more epic and grand scale grand campaign. Now don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to design your expansions or DLC, I don't care whether they're telling the story of Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar or some idiot farmer, or how exactly they're done, as long as the add to the main camapign, instead of getting countless of mini campaigns with no epic feel. I don't want to conquer Gaul, I want to conquer the world!
Oh and one last thing, I hope you make a ******** of culture DLC packs for the grand campaign, so that we can really get some flesh and variety on the map!
Thats just my two cents, now I'll go hide in the shadows again untill september 3rd.
